TRIP REPORT AND PICTURES COMING SOON...AS WELL AS DINING REVIEWS
I LOVE THE POLY!!!!

First of all, we were greeted with a WARM ALOHA from all of the Poly staff...this place is pure splendor!! We got checked in fresh off the magic express (what a fabulous service!!!). We all got our keys to the world and our pink leis from Trinh (I think that was her name anyway she was super nice.) My kids played in the kids area and made lei bracelets with Mickey pasta shapes, very cute!! The girls kept saying "aloha" at every opportunity! They were soooo excited. We were assigned to Fiji room 2307, great view of the lagoon and GF as well as luau cove. I specifically asked for a newly remodeled room and all they had was 2nd floor so no balcony but it was a small sacrafice for this AMAZING room!!! The longhouse itself was in a GREAT location...great great great!!! I can not tell you how close it was to the pool and GCH and the beach (where we watched Hallowishes and Wishes a couple of times while swimming in the VOLCANO POOL!!) The beds (do not know if they are new or what..) they are SOOOOO COMFY!!! Plush, big pillows everywhere!! The TV is awesome, my dh was so IMPRESSED!!! They all loved the huge flat screen!! The bathroom was nice, sometimes I could smell what I refer to as the Florida smell, like an outdoorsy, heat smell. Hard to describe but I thought it was very tropical!! The smell in the GCH actually reminded me and my dh of Las Vegas smells where they pump fresh oxygen into the air, we thought it smelled wonderful!! The greenery is so Hawaiian and tropical!!

Just a little FYI, the maintenence people had to be called several times to our room because the electrical system in the new rooms is apparently having some problems. Several times during our stay our fridge was not working (good thing we did not have a lot of food in it) and the AC would stop running. I was fine with the temp but my dh was always saying it was a little too warm but anyway someone ALWAYS fixed it RIGHT AWAY...three times to be exact. I just called the front desk and got help.

The daybed (which infact folds down into a twin bed, I realized on our last night) was very nice and served it purpose, the girls took turns on it. There is a little clothes line above the tub if you want to hang your wet clothes (FYI) The bathroom was pretty and very stylish! A bit small maybe and we only had one sink but it was a lovely room indeed!!

The volcano pool, hmmmmmm....this was FABULOUS!!! The slide is fun and the 0 entry was nice for the little kids. My dds liked the fountains there. They also liked to play in the white sand!! Very smooth and warm!! I did not get any beverages at the pool bar, I did not think the pool bartender was as nice as he could have been, just standard. Kind of a bigger guy, looked like he needed a little laugh or something...but we did get nachos and cokes there.
The boat to the MK was fantastic!!!!!!! While there were crowds of people waiting for monorails and busses, we were wisked away promptly after EMH and Wishes!!! This service spoiled me for the rest of the trip...I will have a report about that soon. Riding the boat on the lagoon as EWP was going by was SOOOO cool!! Pixie dust abound here ladies and gentlemen.
The monorail service was great as well, but the busses to the other parks from the Poly can be better IMO. Maybe I had been spoiled by the boat and monorail and the short lines at the parks...I think I am flexible and patient, I work with special needs kids and have three girls...waiting does not bother me but we waited 40 mins for a bus to AK on Sunday!!! That was precious park time wasted!! The bus wait was sooooo long that a crowd of people had gathered and me not knowing where the bus would stop got trampled by all of these people who had not waited as long as some others there at the stop.(I was always conscious of letting those who were waiting before me or had tiny kids or whatever get on before me and my family the whole trip) To get the bus to MGM was better but the pickups from both of the parks took over 30 mins and I assume we were the first load at closing due to timing and our position in line. I still would not rent a car at the Poly, I would just schedule extra time to catch the busses, inexperience at play here. No matter how much we prepare on these boards, you will drop the ball on something! I dropped it several times, stay tuned for trip reprt!! Anyway the Poly was AWESOME and had my dh using the words "value" and "Poly" and "Disney" in the same sentence folks!!!

Ohana was the best!! CC's was great too, no complaints...read restaurant reviews!!

The bell service and housekeeping were great, USE EXPRESS CHECK OUT!! This was SOOOO cool!!!!! So fantastic!!! The shops are all cute and a great little place to find cheap candy souvies is at the candy shop upstairs. We missed several things at Poly but can not wait to go back to figure it all out!! This was a magical vacation and so special and perfect in every way!! I know for a fact I will never stay anywhere but a monorail resort, it just can not be beat...and I do look forward to more Poly stays!! I will post pics later...

All I can say is, go with smiles and an open heart and do not let the little things ruin such a fantastic place!! If you worry about towel animals and weather and lines and schedules you are going to wear yourself out!! Just believe in the magic...

ALOHA!!! :sunny:

It sounds like you guys had a great time. I hope to stay there soon. Thanks for the very nice post!

That was quite a positive post! Sounds like you had a really great vacation. I love the Poly too and can't wait for my return in 7 weeks! :) You got me even more excited. I love when others enjoy the Polynesian as much as me! Can't wait to read your trip report and to see your pics!

Welcome home. Thanks for the report. Yes the beds are new (just started replacing them in the lest few months).

Aloha

Steve

We're planning on going in January - do you happen to know the name of the buildings that have been refurbished?

Thanks!

Thanks for the report. I loved the Poly and get "Homesick" everytime I read a Poly report! Glad you had a good time! :goodvibes

I know Fiji is done, maybe Tikiman can help with that one. Steve did you know they were having some electrical issues there?? It was not a problem for us at all but if we would have had food in the fridge...I really thought Fiji would have been lagoon view because we saw the lagoon from our room, along with the monorail and the gf and so many other nice things!!! I think Fiji might have smaller rooms than some other longhouses but the space was quite big for 5 and they have tons of cabinet spaces!!!

BTW: they do not have tables in the new rooms which was bad becuase we eat in our room and the kids spilled all over the new comforter and then we had mismatched bedding...they really need a table, take out that silly lounge chair no one but the luggage uses!!! We resorted to eating on the floor after the spill in bed...that was kind of uncomfy...

Fiji and parts of Rapa Nui are done (maybe all of it by now). Niue and Tuvalu should be done by now but I have not had any confirmed reports. I did not hear anything about electrical problems but I am sure they don’t go around announcing that. I am not totally surprised that there are problems with as fast as they tried to do this. I don’t think they should have opened any of the rooms until they were ready and by the looks of the fact that they still have the old light fixtures and headboards, it looks like they opened too soon.

Fiji’s rooms are the smaller floor plan but remember the smallest Polynesian room is larger than almost all other Deluxe resort standard rooms.

TRUE SO TRUE about announcing it...guess I am saying it now just incase any Disers want to put milk in the fridge...don't be suprised if the electrical does not work, but if something like this were to occur I am sure the Poly would take steps to give you milk credits or food credits. I would be concerned if I had some type of medicines that needed refridgeration. Either way, they fixed the problems ASAP!!!! It was a small price to pay for such an outstanding room...now had the electric gone off to the TV...that would have been a different report all together!! :rotfl2: My dh was addcited and LOVED it!!! BTW the HALLOWISHES fireworks from the beach were AMAZING!!!!!!!! Do NOT MISS THEM!!! They took my breath away, literally. We sadly did not make it to MNSSHP, next year, next year....as far as the space goes there was plenty of room for 5 of us and we all slept very peacefully. It was hard getting out of those beds, even for MK :earsboy:
EMH Wed night was great, we took the boat over at 8 and stayed til 11 pm!!

Also do not miss dinner at Ohanas!!! Great food!! I even liked food at CC. I did get a refillable mug, thank god I was in Fiji, that made it easier to refill!! We did get lost one night after Illuminations, we got off at TTC and tried to navigate our way thru Poly grounds in the dark!! We finally figured to follow signs to Luau Cove and we did find it. The Art store in there is amazing!! Take time to look at the paintings!

Oh yeah one more funny thing...

I assume I was walking by one of the suites, it was a two story facing the castle and by the mice boats....

anyway there was another lady walking by with her friend and she says,

"oh look...those rooms have kitchens!!!" :rotfl2:

I thought to myself, yeah for 2000 a night you can have one too!!!

We are going in December for an impulsive, "let's get the code", oh-my-gosh-what-are-we-doing-trip. I have never stayed at the Poly and am so excited. Your report raised my excitement level for sure!!! We originally requested 3rd floor Samoa for the proximity to the GCH. Now you have me thinking about Figi!!!

Anyone want to weigh in? Please!?!?!

five:

I know I loved the location of Fiji!!!

Our room had what I would have considered a lagoon view so I can see Poly is generous with thier views IMO. If having a newly remodled room is important, Fiji is definitely a great choice. I must say, the longhouses are closer than they appear on the map IMO. I mean the map looks very spread out but they were all relatively close to each other IMO. The GCH is right in the middle of it all too so it really is probably not that far from any longhouse!!

I know your trip at the Poly will be great...I would like to do March already! :earsgirl:

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay so much. We love the Polynesian too.

We will so miss having a table in the room. We use it for room service meals. Our son uses it to draw and set up his DVD. I use it for reading the paper and doing crosswords and my DH has even been known to use it for work. :earseek:

I guess we'll have to fight over the desk. :confused3

Do you think we could start a DIS petition? Please give us a table!!! :worship:

None of the longhouses were really far away from anything. We stayed in Tokelau and loved it there! The table issue has me wondering. Are they going to be furnishing them or not? It would seem very strange (and a bit annoying I think) not to have a table in my room. Even if they wheel one in if you order room service, what about the times you get some take-out from Capt. Cooks? I really wouldn't want to eat a messy sandwich on the bed.

Thanks for the info! I still can't believe we are doing this! It is very spur of the moment for us. I am a big planner and I am now getting ready to take my 2nd impulsive trip to WDW in a 5 month span! We are staying at the Polynesian to boot!

Thanks for the Poly info!!!

Thanks for your great post. I am SO glad you loved the Poly. We absolutely ADORE it. Our favorite longhouse is Fiji...isn't the location fabulous?

Can't wait to get back there next year.

they are the special halloween fireworks set off to halloween music during the mnsshp...they were BEYOND awesome I can not explain how fabulous they were, even from the Poly beach!! I only regret not getting to the MNSSHP this year but it leaves me ready for it NEXT year!!!

Check the MNSSHP dates to see if they are still showing while you are there, I believe Oct is the last month to catch these FABULOUS fireworks!!!
