Poly Points Ridiculous!

I was at the Poly over the weekend and I can tell you that if I was in Bungalow 15-20 (especially 18-19-20) I would NOT be happy as the noise from the ferry boat horns is a constant jolt every 15 mins or so.

Agree! We were there over Memorial Day weekend and felt sorry for the people in the bungalows right by the TTC. Those on that end are RIGHT by the huge disney ferry boat. I am not sure how many ferry boats leave per hour, but they blow the ferry horn very loud, for a very long time, right by those bungalows. On the nights that the MK is open late, sleeping would be elusive with that ferry horn blasting right outside your bedroom

And a standard view room is still $439-$493/night, plus tax. I can't even get a lake view to come up. So, that's where the savings is.

Is it just me or does anyone else think $500 per night is a little excessive for a Polynesian hotel room?

Hey God bless anyone with enough points to choose to stay at the Poly bungalows! I would never use points that way, but that's the beauty of DVC.....something for just about everyone. Even if I had enough points to use there, I would pass. I live in Hawaii and get to see all the water and "Polynesian theming" I want. But, everyone isn't that lucky, so for many, staying at the Disney version of Polynesia is the next best thing.

And for the summer peak season like he's talking about for the 24/29 points, I bet it's even more than that for cash. The $439 is the very minimum in the very low season of early Sept that corresponds to the 16 point per night season. 16x$13pp =$208 per night equivalent when the cash rate is $439. That's more than 50% savings, just like the DVC flyers advertise. Even if you were able to get 30% off passholder rate (which they didn't offer on the Poly this time), the cash rate would still be $307.30, not even close.

We walked by the Bungalows last week. The boat horns and lack of privacy made them so unappealing to us. Then again- I found the Poly to be very blah overall.

I think the Poly is one of those where those who love it love it and the rest of us go "what's the attraction"? I have NEVER gotten it. It's an exterior corridor hotel that looked dated and like a 'parody' of the area it purported to represent to me, but I have a friend who would never stay anywhere else. Different tastes for different folks!

What building did you stay in? We have stayed there 2 times and never had an exterior corridor. It is a great resort but the price of the new DVC rooms are just too expensive for our taste...smjj

Yes, but there's no theme park next door, no fireworks, there may not even be running water in those bungalows in Bora Bora, I don't know. Probably not air conditioning either. And an unbelievably long plane flight to get there, lol.

Of course there's running water - that's a 4-star resort! They do not normally need air conditioning. There is a glass floor, and of course the "plunge pool" is the whole bay. As to the theme park and the fireworks, there are much cheaper accommodations at WDW that have that same feature. If people have the points and they want to stay in the bungalows, then God bless them! I'm sure they will have a wonderful time, and they are beautiful accommodations. However, it would be my choice to spend that kind of money actually in Hawaii or Tahiti and use my points on less costly resort accommodations with perhaps more value. But that's just me. As the saying goes "Hey, it's *your* money!"

I was at DVC Poly this past weekend (see trip report) and surprised at how much this resort is for accommodations.

Using the three rooms available, the price per night is:

24 points studio standard @ $13pp = $312, @$15pp = $360
29 points studio lake @ $13pp = $377, @$15pp = $435 (21% premium over standard view)
159 points Bungalow @ $13pp = $2,067, @$15pp = $2,385 (equivalent to 6.6 standard or 5.5 lake view studios)

So tell me again, how are we saving money with DVC here???

While those prices are still saving money compared to cash rates from Disney, compared to a standard view studio at BWV for 10 points a night they are definitely pretty pricey.
