Poly parking while trying to add on

I'm sorry, but I feel like I have to vent a bit. Today I pulled into the Poynesian proudly wanting to visit the DVC office there and add on 50 points. I told the gate guard (don't know if I should name him here) what I was doing, and he would not let me park at the Poly without doing valet. I don't like valet.

I went around to the MK lot and had to park in the very back few rows next to where the raceway used to be. When I finally got back to the Poly walking from the TTC, I talked to the gate guard again, and asked in the future if he would please let someone who had legitimate business there and spending thousands of dollars that day park there, but I don't think he understood and still thought I was just trying to park there for free or something. I saw there were spaces in the lot- they were not completely full.

I told the DVC people about it at the kiosk, and they were sympathetic, but I doubt they were going to tell anyone. Am I being unreasonable here that if I have a legitimate reason to be there and spend a lot of money that I should be able to park?

I did go ahead and get my add on, and the DVC people really did save the day and were very nice, but the start of the day left a bad taste in my mouth.

Problem is, DVC hasn't educated the security folks on allowing prospective buyers entrance and how does the guard verify your intentions?

Your best bet would have been to call your guide and set up a meeting at the sales center at SSR.

Well, like I said, I don't like valet for a couple of reasons. I don't like someone else driving my car, and also the valet service is contracted out and they have it set up so they are not liable if something happens.

And I didn't want to purchase at SSR, I wanted to drive over to the Poly and purchase there and have a nice drink at Trader Sam's afterwards. I didn't realize it would be such a hassle to give them $8400. I guess I'm over it, but you're right, they need to educate the security guards and possibly have a system where they can call the DVC people at the gate or something. I realize he just thought I wanted free parking, but on the other hand I did have a valid reason for being there that should have entitled me to parking for the evening. So we've got a situation that shouldn't happen here.

Another option would have been to call your guide and arrange for a DVC van. They will pick you up anywhere and deliver you anywhere.

But I do agree, you should have been able to park.

I have a more basic question, the answer to which may affect the original question: Does the Poly have a DVC sales office where the sale can actually be done and completed or is it instead necessary to go to the SSR sales office?

DVD sets up sales offices at the new resorts until sell out. They have ASA's and Guides on site.

That's the exact same thing I was thinking. Is it even possible to buy at the resort? Can they take your money without taking you to SSR?

Usually you go to SSr for sales and they have a dedicated parking lot for DVC.

Poly obviously isn't set up for that and they are clamping down on people who are not staying at resorts parking there. Correctly so in my opinion.

Like someone else said, they can complete your purchase there at the Poly right now while it is still selling. They have taken over several rooms inside the Moorea building for offices, and also there is an office inside the GCH. They are constantly giving tours and selling there all day so it benefits them to not have to shuttle everybody over to SSR to complete.

And I do agree with Minniesgal that they shouldn't just let anyone in there to park. But I knew about the sales office, and had a legitimate business reason to be visiting. I think it is just a case of security needing to be educated. The one I spoke with may not have even known that I could complete a purchase there, especially if some of you on this board didn't know. I didn't realize that fact was relatively unknown, so that could have been a factor, although you would think security would know about their own property, lol.

You would think DVC would make an agreement with the Poly about customers coming in to purchase. I guess they are so sure that any prospective customers would use the DVC van system. They could have lost your business with this mistake.

It did have me re-thinking for a few moments about just leaving and going home. In the end I figured that I would be coming back in the future and would want more points, so I should overlook this one incident.

But you're right, what if I had been a new prospective buyer who heard they were selling DVC at the Polynesian and decided to drive over and take a look and possibly become a new member? That would seem like a reasonable scenario, and this type of incident probably would have driven the person away without even being given the chance to meet a DVC castmember.

So I have some questions:
One- OP, where were you staying when you went to the Poly to buy points...were you staying on resort somewhere?
Two- we are allowed, DVC folks, to pool hop at some pools...what if we are staying at BWV and want to go to SSR to swim? Can we park at SSR?
Three- What if we want to got to SSR to eat at the food CS place (so no ADR on our magic band), can we park at SSR?
Four- What if we're staying at SSR but want to go over to the Boardwalk to hang out on the boardwalk and watch the magic shows and play the carnival games and eat at the food booth or pop into ESPN? Can we park at BWV?

Our past few trips we had ADRs at other resorts and the guard would check our MB and see our ADR and let us in. But what about the things I mentioned above that don't show up on a MB? Is it okay if you are a resort guest, you can park at any other resorts...or no? Kind of curious since in Oct we will be at BWV while inlaws will be at SSR so want to know what we can/can't do as far as parking.

OP...congrats on the purchase. Maybe it's a good thing that they are so tough on parking. You, as an owner there, will have parking. Last summer we did have an ADR at Poly and had a tough time finding a spot so I guess they need to crack down...though there was a whole section being taken up by construction equipment that should be open now or soon (are they done with construction there now?).

Ok I think I can answer these-

One- I was not staying at a resort that night. I live an hour away in the Tampa area and had driven over for the day.

Two and Three- You shouldn't have a problem going to SSR to pool hop or eat, I don't think they are nearly as picky about parking at SSR, and if you showed them a DVC member card there would be no problem I'm sure. (Although I thought that last night trying to visit the Poly, lol.). Poly is not a pool hopping resort, but SSR is, so they're supposed to let you in.

Four- this is the one you may have a problem with. They are strict about the parking at Boardwalk also. It may depend on what time of year and how full the parking lot is as to whether you get in.

One other thing I just thought of- last night the new Oasis quiet pool with second pool bar opened, so it's possible that security knew about that and were trying to keep people from parking there to come in and look as word got out to locals and castmembers. Not making excuses for them, because there isn't an excuse, but I suppose that could have played into it. I didn't even know until the DVC people walked me by it and mentioned it was open on the way to letting me tour a bungalow.

I noticed there is a sales office directly across from the kiosk at the Poly.

Thanks! My niece is going to UT in the fall and my DDs are looking there as well. That's why the inlaws will be down there when we are (niece's parents weekend at UT is that weekend and then they are bringing her over on Sat to do F&W with us). You are lucky to be able to get FL resident APs...if my DDs go to UT maybe they can too. Again, congrats on the Poly...nice add on!

Done this more than once:

"Sure, I'll valet park..."

Drive through the front and right on through to the parking lot on the other side.

Guard might check to see that you drive up front be he ain't gonna pay attention to what you do after.
