I just got back and I have a big ol honk'in cold. I need to wait until I at least feel like crap before I do a trip report - but - every bus that we took (anywhere) from the Poly was full by the time it got to the Poly. I stood up on every bus no matter where we went or what time we went there. Most of the time my wife AND daughter had to stand up. No gentleman on this trip. Once a bus driver took a completely packed bus to the Grand Floridian, opened the doors, no one got off, closed the doors, then drove away leaving many people at the GF with a confused look on their faces to wait for another bus or the return trip.

Sounds like a nightmare! I've heard that the shared busses can back up like that, and it's something that worries us about our upcoming trip. We try to avoid the busses whenever possible!

Sorry you came home sick. We came home from Disneyland last week and think we caught a bad cold there, too. So I can really sympathize with you.:(

I always rent a car now - even if we stay at a Monorail resort. I just cannot stand the buses. My husband thinks I'm crazy and I should just relax, but my claustrophobic, germophobic self gets the best of me when I think about being crammed into a bus with tons of other people, especially at the end of a very long day. Heebie Jeebies. :headache:

That sucks, it being a deluxe particularly. So goes (basically) public transit though. At least the bus rides are short. I never mind, I rent a car for a couple days usually and its a trade off, have to drive but no buses and it costs more. I think expecting anyone to stand up is kinda silly for a women or a kid unless the child is exceptionally young, it could happen but, there's not really a reason for it, everyone is exhausted. I know courtesy and etcetra, but being a rider of buses for 4 (2 hours each way, YAY) hours every school day I don't think the vast majority stand for anyone except the elderly and for them mostly everybody will stand.

I've never stayed at Poly/GF but I have taken buses there to eat, and I always wonder how they justify the shard buses at such costly resorts. AKL doesnt share, I love it there btw, and I know WL can or does sometimes, it seems really really rare, I've stayed twice and never been on a shared bus. I don't think they get that busy except at this time of year. I'll never go in June/July myself.

We love the Poly and we also love the Disney busses, however we did not love the Poly busses. When we stayed there in 2004 we always had to wait forever for a bus.

its posts like these which makes me wonder why doesn't disney fix the bus issuses? we had a bus issue at the dolphin...it shared with 5 resorts plus stopped at bb on the way to ak....talk about packed! i think deluxes really should have their own buses. as well as fq and por. heck even the allstars from what i hear those buses are often packed too!

Does anyone know what the average cab ride is from the Polynesian to the different parks ? Thanks

The dh and I have found a way around the bus issue. Stay at the Poly for part of the trip and monorail to MK then move to the BWV's and walk to MGM and Epcot. Then we only have to bus to AK. We added a few nights to our Vero beach vacation this summer and we are staying at the Poly we are only touring MK and Epcot. I hate the buses.

Well, zero to MK or Epcot; figure on $20 to the other parks. It may WELL be less, but if you plan for that as an average amount, you should be okay.

Sounds like mass transit to me. The WDW bus system is just glorified mass transit and nothing else. Standing on a bus is normal for those of us in cities that have mass transit as a way of life. Just because someone is male does not mean that they have to give up their seat to a healthy female. A healthly male or female should give up their seat to someone who appears to need it more then they but even then looks are deciving. My 62yr old mother can handle standing on a bus better then my husband if his back is acting up or if his asthma is bad.

I think people who travel to WDW and do not have experiance with riding mass transit are taken back by crowded buses. The bus system is meant to get you from point A to point B and that is it.

When we stayed at the Poly, we were in one of the long houses nearest the Transportation Center, so we walked there to catch our buses instead of going to the Poly stop. Except for one morning when the Studios bus was 45 minutes late, service was very good. I think all those buses were direct.

That's a great tip. We'll be at the Poly in August and will try to get one of those longhouses. I don't mind standing but my kids (9 & 3) are usually exhausted at the end of the day.

I was going to give this same tip. We stay at the Poly and walk over to TTC for the buses (and Epcot monorail). I think in the long run it is faster than sharing, and it was never crowded.

I'll third this recommendation. We were in the Tokelau longhouse, and it was just a short walk to the TTC.:thumbsup2

I was wondering about this, too. We are headed to the Poly in 3 weeks and thanks to this great info, we'll just walk to the TTC. Thanks!!!:goodvibes

I am a newbie at Poly.....so you can get a bus to AK and HS from the TTC? Are there also buses to other resorts from there?

Hi,
You can get a bus to the AK and to DHS but not to any resorts. You would need to take a bus to a park and then get on a resort bus there.

I am sorry you did not have a great experience using the buses at the Polynesian. I think part of the problem is since they share with the Contemporary they are the 1st stop, so that means the Polynesian is the 2nd stop and when the bus arrives could have a lot of people on it. Plus it does not make things any easier when it goes to the Grand Floridian.

Last December when my family and I stayed there we had no problems with the buses, so I guess there will always be guests who had positive experiences and those who had negative experiences.

DW and I have been on many crowded disney buses. Neither she or I expect any male to give up their seat for her because she is female.

Yes you get get on any bus from the TTC.

When I stay at the Poly, I take the monorails to MK and Epcot, then I rent a car for 2 - 3 days from the care care center (ALAMO). for HS and AK and any dining I want to do at the other resorts. I return the car and spend my last couple of days at MK and Epcot and eat at Poly/Contemp/GF. No busses and saves a ton on the weekly rentals from the airport.
