We will be staying at the WL this coming January1-9th. We are thinking about heading to the Poly for drinks after Wishes and the MK closes.
When will the boats stop running? How would we get back to the WL if we spend a few hours over at the Poly?

The boats usually stop running an hour after the park closes (this can change based on crowd levels). You would either have to take a (very) short cab ride back to the Wilderness Lodge or take the bus to Downtown Disney and then back to the Wilderness Lodge.

The fastest way back to WL from the Polynesian is to walk to the TTC and catch the WL/FW bus.

I should have noted that the bus is the fastest way using WDW transportation. I would think that styloviolet's suggestion of a cab would certainly be faster.

The walk from the Poly to the TTC is very short. Then, just hop the WL bus. It's abt a 2 minute ride.

I *think* (but am not sure), that this bus runs until 2am. Tyler can give you a better answer. ;)

Also, if you are heading back a bit early, you can just monorail to CR and take the WL/CR/FW boat. It runs 7am - 10pm. The boat ride is less than 5 minutes.

Since we are talking about the first week in January.......I am thinking that all the MK transportation (boats and monorail) will be stopping before 10pm. Maybe I should just do the cab/van idea that was suggested.

Swim out to the floats on the water parade. They go from the GF, to Poly to WL to FW.

We have stayed at the WL several times during the winter months. The walk form the Poly to TTC isn't that far, so the bus from TTC to WL is a good option. The buses from TTC to WL do run until 2:00 am. If the monorail is running and you're in no hurry, take the monorail from the Poly to TTC and then the bus to WL. Check at the monorail station on the 2nd floor at the Poly and they can tell you how late the resort monorail runs.

The resort monorail does run until at least 11:00pm each night.

On nights when the parks are open late, the resort monorail runs until 2 hours after the latest park closing. However in your time frame I imagine EPCOT will be the last park to close at 9pm and so the resort monorail will stop operating at 11pm with the possible exception of Saturday night when the MK is sometimes open a little later even in slow times.

Gary M has a nice suggestion if time allows. The view from the monorail is magical at night!

Thanks to everyone for all the help.....I was under the impression that the TTC was a good 20 minute walk from the Poly.

From the GCH it is probably a 7-10 minute walk. However be sure to follow the brown directional markers as the paths wind and it can be a little confusing in the dark if you're not familiar with the property. One other advantage of the resort monorail!;)
