Buy them. He'd be soooo very happy and his smile will be worth it. I just bought my dd the Nike Shox and can't wait to see her face when she opens the box. She's been wanting them for a while now, but, I didn't want to spend the $$$. But, its X-mas, and you know, we're all softies......

I would have bought them too.

I'm not sure Pete is old enough to understand the concept of Christmas budget yet, but Santa can surely adjust spending in other categories to make up for it.

:)

Just a thought....maybe save that present until last so that just when he starts to think that he isn't getting them, suddenly, there they are :flower:
That's exactly what I plan on doing. I am going to have a hard time not spilling the beans between now and Christmas. :bitelip:

I would just like to say a big thank you the the very special DIS'er who sent me a PM offering to pay for these shoes for Pete. Such a wonderful and kind offer (we are okay though). I won't mention her name because I don't want to embarrass her but I want her to know that if she ever needs me, I would be there 'inaminute"! ;)

This is cool. I'm glad that you decided to buy them. My mother would have scoffed at the whole idea and I was thinking of how sad I would have been.

That is one of the most generous things I have ever heard. When I read your post, I didn't get the feeling that you couldn't afford the shoes, just that it was a bit much to spend on shoes. What I'm trying to say is that you didn't seem to be asking for help (as so many people seem to do on BBs these days), yet this person was generous enough to offer, just in case you needed it - privately so it's not as though they were trying to be a show off. That is the greatest show of Christmas Spirit that I have seen in a while. Happy Holidays to you and your would be "Secret Santa". :D

Oh how nice to know that we're in such great company to have someone offer to buy them!!!!

Since he may grow out of them before they're worn, you could put them on ebay or give them away. That's how I justify Oshgosh stuff, LOL!

I'm happy for your little boy. I know they were my newphew's favorite gift when we bought them for him. He wore them EVERYWHERE!!! He could not have been happier (and I was a great aunt for a little while!) I think this is what you have to look forward to!

:)

I would buy them too. My DD has 3 pairs of totally impractical Hanna Andersson clogs. Does she need clogs in pink, purple AND red?? Clogs that she can't wear real well in the winter? Of course not. Do I care? Of course not! They're darn cute - and she's only young once. Someday she won't want anything that I like. I have to get those cute things now while I can!

I agree with the other poster who said to re-sell them on Ebay when you are done with them. That is exactly what I do with DD's clogs and her other designer/more pricey things. If it's a popular item, you may get back 1/3 of your initital cost.

Go for it! Your DS will be so happy! :cloud9:

OMGosh! Pete's Mom - I just noticed your DS's photo and the one of Dopey! They really do look a bit alike - both adorable!!! What a neat photo! :D

Also, just curious - how old is Pete?

I pay just over that for all my daughters shoes, I will only buy stride rite for her......they last a few months-6 months depending on how fast her feet grow each time....I dont think 40 is to much to spend on shoes, especially if he really likes them.

Yay! for Pete. I'm glad he is getting the shoes he wants for Christmas.

Just want to share this with you: My sister's son wanted an autographed baseball one Christmas (maybe Chipper Jones, I don't remember) but it was expensive to get. Michael was probably 10 or 11 yo at the time and he was pretty much giving up the idea of Santa.

He opened the gift on Christmas morning and shouted, "There REALLY IS a Santa Claus because I KNOW my mom would NEVER pay this much $$ for a baseball!"

It was precious. And what he didn't know was that my sister had been a huge Tug McGraw fan while growing up. Karen was a sucker for that gift--she knew what it would mean to him.

Sometimes we never forget a gift like this. I hope this one falls into that catagory for Pete!

I would do it! $40 isn't too hard on the wallet, and since he is so easy going about most things, I would definitely let him have it. Kids remember things like this. My DH2B is a victim of this - there were a lot of things he wanted as a child and didn't get, now he spends a lot of his adulthood trying to replace that void...

They're pretty ugly but I say buy them a size too big so that he can wear them longer. Just have him wear thick socks at first.

Thanks, Princess. Pete was 4 when that picture was made. He will be 8 on December 12 and looks the same except he is missing his front two teeth. :teeth:

I voted for buy them. My seven year old wants a guitar more than anything for Chrismtas. I doubt she will ever play it, but that is what she asked Santa for. We always try to do what they ask Santa for, except the dumb bratz party bus!

I agree...buy 'em.....besides they're practical....at least while they fit :)
