POLL - Direct, Resale or Both?

Suprised to see team white card at 18% on that poll! Thought it would be much lower, we really are the rare Disney characters.

I own resale only with no perks... I would buy direct for Blue Card IF they had a more reasonable buy in. At 100+ points buy in with current resort offerings I could buy 200 points resale for the same exact money, even at Aulani which is a current offering! For double the points, the benefits are not worth it to me.

Perhaps with the new Cali offering coming up, I will buy direct there, since Cali points are not as discounted on the resale market.

First contract was resale with all the restrictions before we added on direct Riviera 14 months later and now have blue cards.

We bought our first contract right when Covid started with 160 points at SSR. When we first were looking at DVC we looked at direct but since we live in Iowa and most years can only get down 1 time a year the extra benefits that a blue card offers are not appealing to us to spend the extra $65 a point than we paid for resale.

Direct points only for me. I researched, did the tour on-site, went home and researched some more and saved money until I could pay for my first contract in full. I’ve been adding on a little at a time direct as I could afford them. Buying direct was so easy as all of my contracts are 25-50 points. I paid more in closing costs and in total, but it that’s what worked best for me at those times.

What a great poll! I’m really enjoying seeing the results.

We bought 200 points direct at OKW in 1997 and just passed ROFR with 250 points at BWV.

1st 150 SSR resale
2nd 25 SSR direct
3rd 75 SSR direct
4th 100 OKW direct

Well, I started off with 100 resale points at VGF. Then did a 50 point direct at Riv. I have been thinking about adding another 50 direct for the blue card but right now it really doesn’t bring any benefits.

Ah, that makes sense! If you want RIV, it definitely makes more sense to buy direct so you have the option of using it at other resorts, too.

Remember that 80% direct/mixed versus 20% resale only (rounded off) reflected in the polls here is just the people here on the Disboards.

I would bet for those that own DVC, not here on the boards, it's more like 99.9% direct only and only 0.1 % resale/mixed. I don't know, but I would guess that maybe 5% of all DVC owners, if we are lucky, or here reading the disboards.

So, in all reality, team white card only is probably closer to 2% (maybe at most 5%) of all DVC owners.

Of course I am just pulling numbers out of thin air, I really don't know, but I truly believe this is closer to reality.

Blue card no restrictions grandfathered resale but also have direct contracts too.
