Personally, I think both statements are true, so I didn't vote.

You have every RIGHT to use your points as you please within the context of the rules.

You also have the RESPONSIBILITY to do so with consideration of other members and how they will be affected.

We can continue to dream up extreme examples till the cows come home (like reserving 12 studios every Wednesday), but the point system does provide basic guidelines for how the limited space in the resorts are shared by the members. The rules will never be adequate to cover all potential abuses, so some responsibility, or 'accountability', is also required.

Personally, I think making reservations at your home resort as a backup in case you can't get a reservation at 7 months is fine. You have the intention of using the reservation if the other doesn't come through. Now, reserving multiple resorts because you (or a renter) can't decide on priorities is, in my opinion, irresponsible but it's not a huge grievance if they are released shortly.

Regardless of the rules, our rights rest on the consideration and respect of others toward us.

Can't we all just get along???

It's kind of funny, it seems that a number of people are not happy with the way that members are renting their points, but in the same breath will state that the trades through DVC are too many points and it is better to rent the points and pay cash. I am paying for an upcoming cruise with points and I have actually had someone post on a thread that until we stop using our points for such trades that points for trades will never come down. I don't feel that it is my responsibility to not take this trip just to try to lower points for the rest of the members. If I am willing to pay the price in points I should be able to do so. If someone else feels they are too high then they don't have to use points for trades.

Since it sounds like I've been paraphrased, Here's what I said in reference to the quote above.

"As long as members are willing to spend two years (or more) of points to cruise with their family, DCL will continue to stick it to DVCers. I bet that CRO rents out your points, pays for your cruise and pockets lots of extra $cash$. The only way we'll see a better points chart is to not cruise on points at all. I know I've made that decision."

I couldn't care less how you use your points, but Disney does. It's a fact that DVC cruising is a popular option. I think Disney takes excess advantage of it by gouging DVCers for points.

I stand by my opinion...Johnnie

I think this is well stated. The rules will never be adequate to cover all potential abuses, so some responsibility, or 'accountability', is also required. Mambers have every right to express concern about deliberate abuses and ask fellow members that they not occur. Perhaps a grievance process is needed to arbitrate disputes regarding member abuses. Those taking offense to my posting of a confederate flag and undies on the balcony and chain smoking in non-smoking rooms could submit a grievance that would be reviewed and a determination made as to whether I would be allowed to continue with these abuses. They could determine if fines are appropriate to cover the cost of getting the room cleaned from smoking smells, as an example.

I hope many people outside of this poll feel some consideration toward fellow DVC members is appropriate, and demonstrate that by not leaving thier trash in the hallway, etc.
