Politically correct Christmas

I thought Christmas was all about who gets the coolest gifts? :duck: :stir: ;)

No I'm kidding. Please don't throw rotten fruit at me.

Hijacking a thread isn't kosher, especially one that just started out. It seems to be ok if you're on a thread that has a million pages to it and the original point is lost, but this thread was brand spanking new. The Op wasn't trying to be political and I don't recall the OP being a regular on the various political threads either.

As for you thinking that the OP's poem was as political as what Fabshelly wrote. Wrong. There is no mention of either political party in the OP's original post or any real names mentioned. It's all about the P/C culture and how things have changed in this country. P/C is not home to just one party or person, it's found all over our culture. Not one political figure was named or made fun of.

Fabshelly is free to create her own thread and stock it with as many "Bush sucks"/"Fox news sucks" poems as she can find on the net. It's her right to do so and I have no problem with it, just don't hijack a harmless thread to get your ideological talking points in. That's just not fair to the OP, IMO.

I wrote my post while this was being posted so I didn't see it until after--I do see what you mean. But maybe she was thinking this was a place she could post her poems since the door had been opened,so to speak! I don't go to the political threads so I'm not sure exactly what the issue is.
But anyways-I enjoyed reading! I hope you all can work it out!

Yes, but only if you get those cool gifts from a store that says Merry Christmas and not Happy Holidays.

Right so the word "politically" has nothing to do with politics.

All three poems are about the silliness of our culture. The War on Christmas is at least as silly as some of the extreme Political Correctness.

Actually politically as used in politically correct is such a part of the language that it's no longer strictly associated with politics. Just as democratic doesn't necessarily have anything to do with Democratic party-it can also be a form of gov't. All we're saying is that another thread could have been started-"Stirring the pot Christmas poems for instance :stir:.

Another thread could have been started, but it seems that they have a common theme -- funny rewrites of the Night Before Christmas.

seriously? It wasnt a political thread. It was just a funny. :confused3

Seriously, you don't think so? You may not have thought it was political but the parody is filled with ideological commentary that is nothing if not political, esp. given the poem's title. Look at the just some of references in the poem:

--"Elves", [or] "Vertically Challenged" they were calling themselves.
--Labor conditions and unions
--The Humane Society
--The ruts were deemed dangerous by the EPA,
--Second-hand smoke
--[Santa's] fur trimmed red suit was called "unenlightened".
--Rudolf was suing over unauthorized use of his nose.
--Geraldo[ Rivera]
--Demanding millions in over-due workers compensation.
--[Santa's] wife ...joined a self help group, packed and left in a whiz,
demanding from now on that her title was Ms.
--and on and on and on with the gifts section

So how is this poem NOT political, unless one takes such a narrow view of politics that it only applies to specific people and not to various platforms?

That said, I enjoy parodies of all kinds--they critique the status quo, and I'm all for that--and enjoyed the OP's post. But I also enjoyed FabShelly's, though they are markedly different in their political stance. And any post that has the title "politically correct Christmas" in its title might expect responses to what the post's content deems politically correct; FabShelly's responses are particularly clever in matching both the OP's content and form.

No, one was about the silliness of our current culture and how different we are as Nation from previous Holiday's. No leaders of any political party were mentioned. No labels of liberals or conservatives were mentioned either.

The other poems were direct attacks on the current President (which is ok, people are free to do so) and other members of the GOP and several digs at Fox News. I don't have a problem what Fabshelly posted, just where she posted it, that's all. She's free to start a hundred "Bush sucks" threads with all the witty poems she find, just start your own thread or have the permission of the OP, before you hijack.

I'm not coming from a political angle on this one, just pointing out the correct or proper thing to do, that's all. Come to think about it, I guess I did my share of Hijacking too, by talking about this. :rotfl2:

I guess the word politically correct went over shelly's head. It doesn't have anything to do with politics. Though I am not surprised considering she thinks Bush planned Katrina with the help of Jesus. (i added the Jesus part)

Okay so you don't think her poems were appropriate, do you have to make fun of her? How would you like if you posted on a thread and had people bring up things you said from other threads to make fun of you?

I really thought you were above such tactics.

I guess I did go a little overboard. That was in bad taste. I just don't see why a non-political thread should be turned into one.
