Political: Why is this ? (Poll related)

I am a liberal. I don't mind conservatives at all,

Well I didn't say liberals don't like conservatives, I said rabid liberals do. I'm glad you don't fall into that catagory. :)

They are much further to the right than
conservatives-in fact, all the way to the right.

In addition, some Republicans that call themselves conservative are not very conservative at all. In fact, Bush isn't very conservative. Oh, he embraces some far right ideas, to placate his far right base, but he's expanding the federal government so fast that most any liberal should be pleased. ;)

Libertarians consider themselves middle of the road when in fact, on the official political spectrum, they are a branch-not in the middle.

Well, I don't know what most Libertarians consider themselves, but I know I consider myself pretty middle of the road. I like a whole lot of the "L" party platform, but I do not embrace their entire philosophy, which brings me back towards the middle and off the branch.

Moderates are in the middle of the spectrum. This was what I learned in a government class when we studied the parties and how they fell on the political spectrum.

Well, that's pretty much what I learned in government class too. However, in the real world, I learned that most people do not fall neatly into any political label, making the labels pretty useless on an individual level.

I know, thanks for my opinion.

Well, I like hearing your opinion, even if you are voting for Kerry (blech) ;) :D

The poll is interesting, but am I the only one noticing people you wouldn't expect voting for a candidate you wouldn't expect? Last time around I feel like I couls have walked into any room and told you who'd vote for Gore and who'd vote for Bush. This time I'm constantly caught off guard by people's choices.

YES! Shocked by some of the people around me voting for the people that they are voting for. ::yes::

Me too! I couldn't believe it when some of my friends living deep in the Republican states told me they were voting for Kerry. Especially 2 of them, they are ex-military and tow the party line pretty hard so this was a huge (but good) shock. I'm also amazed by the number of people I begged to register to vote (for either party) back in 2000 who were apathetic then and can't wait to vote this year.

Dh and I have active passports and we are voting for Kerry. But my parents also have active passports and spent a good 3 weeks this year traveling to improverished areas and they are voting for Bush.

In addition to the geography theory, major metro areas tend to lean much more to the left. And since I think international travelers are more likely to live near more diverse and populated hubs, it seems to make sense really.
