I am studying to be a teacher, and in class last night, our teacher showed a clip from NBC news. Apparently, a school had a stripper come in (remained dressed, TG!) and do a pole dance as part of a physical fitness unit. Now, she did some impressive things...at first I thought they were misunderstanding some kind of dance. For example, Cirque de Soliel does some dance, involving a pole, that is NOT stripperesque. But, this was a little different...gyrating and what not. Now, I'm no prude, but honestly...who thought this was a good idea?!? I am dumbfounded! I looked for the link, but I couldn't seem to find it (although I found many other interesting things). Anyone heard of this?

Man, nothing like this ever happened in my gym classes in school!

PS - I think it was somewhat inappropriate!

Heavens! I turn the tv channel when the stripper workout video is shown and my daughters are in the room.....

Are the boys also in the gym while the girls are learning this "workout"? That would be pretty rough on teenage boys.

The funny thing was, during my class last night, the teacher talked about it. Then, after he was done and moving on, a boy raised his hand and said he'd like to see the video!:rotfl2: We started laughing and he tries to play it off as seriousness. We got to see it. The clip was maybe 50 seconds long, and like I said, not that bad, but not at all appropriate for school.

If you're going to be good at something you need to start young and practice,practice,practice.:thumbsup2

This was a CHILDREN's School? HS or not , WRONG!!!!!
I would have been livid.

Or are we talking about an adult / college ???

If I had a 14 year old child in a school that thought it was okay to teach pole dancing, I would have her change her school immediately.

Now that I am sitting here lol I have to wonder if this is the new type of "shop" class.

See the link. HS! Okay, it does take some athleticism, I suppose, but I'd rather my daughter exert that in soccer or ballet!
I just can't believe someone thought this was a good idea and others went along. I can't even comprehend?!?

Dang. My gym class was soooo different. ::yes::

It should be an elective for those not doing well in math.

No, seriously. I don't have a problem with regular stripper aerobics classes. In fact, if they were offered around me, I'd sign up. However, I'M 32 YEARS OLD. This is not appropriate for a school gym class. If you're not old enough to go into a strip club, you shouldn't be allowed to take the classes. Simple as that.

I can't even begin to tell you how fast that would get you fired in my school district! :rotfl:

I've gotta say, somebody needs to get a grip. There are plenty of healthy, athletic workouts for students to do without bringing in pole dancers. Give me a break! :sad2:

(ETA: I guess the next thing we'll see is some of the students with their own videos posted on MySpace. :rolleyes2 )

It sounds like they are getting a grip...on a pole.:rotfl:
