Points Transfer Question

If we were to identify another DVC member willing to transfer points into our account, what would happen if that individual failed to pay his/her maintenance fees?

As an example, today we have another member transfer 100 points into our account from his/her June 2011 use year. We could use those points from 7/1/11 - 6/30/12, or bank them by 1/31/12 for use between 7/1/12 - 6/30/13. What would happen if that member failed to pay his/her annual dues before we use the points? If the points were still in that member's account, they would be frozen (right?); what happens if they are now in my account, but haven't been used?

A transfer of points is a final transaction. Once they are in your account, they can not be taken away unless you let them expire.

Thanks, that was what I was hoping for.

One final question, which I am pretty sure I know the answer to... The actual maintenance fees assocated with those points don't come along with the transfer right?

You do not have to pay dues on points transferred into your account.

You can't transfer borrowed points. But you can transfer points you haven't received. For example;I transferred my 2011 Dec use year points to another member. I am going on a cruise in June and wanted to pay for it by renting some of my points,
The person I transferred them to cannot borrow them but is planning on using them in 2012.I made 2 transfers in the same week, both my 2010 and 2011 points. I am paying for 3 cabins. It was much better than paying for 3 cabins with points.:cloud9:

That sounds like the sort of arrangement that we were thinking about looking for. Trip wouldn't be until 2012, but I'd like to get a transfer to get home resort priority (and because we are fresh out of our own).

Remember that the transferred points retain their home resort and use year. So, if they were June 2011 points, they would be good from 6/1/11 to 5/31/12. If banked, 6/1/12 to 5/31/13.

That's cool; I thought you could only transfer current UY points. Could be an interesting option to trade some time with someone if either party was running into banking/borrowing limits and/or wanted to get a different home resort. :thumbsup2

I was hoping there was a good way to "trade" points with someone. So, I'm guessing that two members could 3-way call MS and do both transfers at the same time (as long as each was from a different UY - i.e. 2012 & 2011.)

Isn't the one transfer in or out per year rule by CALENDAR YEAR, not Use Year? I think the closest to a simultaneous trade would be one member calls on Dec. 31st and the other Jan 1st the following year... (Or whatever dates are closest that MS is open). [i.e. Granted the points themselves keep their UY, but I don't think that matters for the rule on when you can make the transfer of them.]

Per Use Year.

Ahh, I read some other (older) threads and that cleared up some of the transfer & meaning of "Per Year" questions now. Assuming it hasn't changed significantly again since 2007! :lmao:
