Points from multiple properties

So I am seriously considering buying into DVC and trying to think through how many points I would need. One thing that confuses me is the practice of doing add-on points at different DVC properties.

It just seems to me that you wouldn't really be able to take advantage of the 11 month window with the add-on points from another property. So, what is the benefit at that point?

For example, if you had 150 SSR points plus 50 at the BW, what would you do at reservation time if you wanted to stay at the BW? Just reserve as many days as you could with the 50? Then hope you could add on to the reservation at 7 months with the 150 as a transfer?

I know there are plenty of you out there that have done this. I probably am just missing something. Thanks.

With 50 pts at a resort, you can use banking and borrowing to turn that into 150 points once every three years. If you like, say, BWV, but don't want to stay there all the time, you can do a small add-on and accumulate points, then book a vacation at the 11-month window.

There are all sorts of other options. For instance, some people do split stays, booking at each resort at the 11-month windows.

We have 300 OKW points and 60 VWL points. With banking and borrowing, I can have as many as 180 VWL points at one time, which is enough to rent a studio for a week.

Another option is to resort hop. Book nights at both places at 11 months. Of course, at the seven month mark you can see if you can alter your reservations to only stay at one place.

You can also try and get a cash reservation (with DVC discount) for the weekend.

For December 2007 I'm actually planning on staying in a one-bedroom at VWL from Sunday-Friday, and moving over to a one-bedroom at OKW for the weekend.

Sun-thur (leave on Friday) with 50 points at BWV - you can get a standard view studio for Thanksgiving week (49 points) - Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan (most of Nov & Dec) - you can get the same 5 days for 45 points.

same with 60 points at VWL. 60 points is also need at BCV to do this.

I do this often!!! :goodvibes :rotfl:

The "banking" part of the "using 3 years worth of points" never worked for us. We tend to use and borrow, so 2- years worth of points are what's usually available for us. Now that our extended family will come, we've enough with borrowing for our stay in a 2 bedroom at VWL, and I will just wait until 7 month to try to get other rooms for any friends/extended family members. They could stay elsewhere, but we like VWL for our DGC. We have 150 VWL points and we may have to add more there.

We began our VWL ownership with 50 points.

Plus one resort you own may increase in resale value more than the other-diversify.

We have 300 OKW, 100 BCV and 100 VWL. We wanted Thanksgiving week at VWL in a one bedroom. I used the current year points, plus borrowed the next year points to get 200 (forget about banking, we always use them up). I was able to get 7 nights at VWL in a studio and one bedroom. Then when 7 months hit I was able to convert the studios into one bedroom using points from OKW.

Many added on points as new resorts were built to get the advantage of 11 month booking. This is especially essential during peak times such as holidays, early December and Food and Wine Festival if you want to stay at a particular resort.

We did not do this as we are happy to stay where ever there is something available, and usually if not always go at non peak times for DVC members.

So we bought all our points at the same location and the same use year.

It truly depends on how you wish to use the points, how often you want to go and what size unit you need.
