I know this has been discussed before but can't seem to locate the thread...can someone please explain to me if I try to book a certain week using points the entire stay is not available but can book the remaining days using cash? so basically the room is available but the resort is holding it just for cash? do the "cash" rooms ever roll over to "points"? doesn't seem fair!

Points and Cash Inventories are separate pools.

Cash Inventory may be due to any of the following:
1. Disney Vacation Development (the developer) retains ownership of a small portion of points. DVD may convert these points to cash rooms if they choose.
2. If a Member uses points for a non-DVC, non-RCI reservation (Cruise, Disney Hotel, Adventures by Disney, etc), those points are converted to a cash room to cover the cost of the other reservation.
3. Rooms unreserved at 60 days from arrival are turned over for cash reservations.

Rooms as the result of number 2 above CAN'T be pulled back to reserve on points as they already are reserved on points.

OK still not understanding...so I'm a DVC member..try to book a two bedroom at SSR for week of Nov2-Nov9th...Nov2-Nov6 are avail but Nov7th&8th are not available and can be waitlisted however when we call member services those two nights(Nov 7 &8) are available to book using cash but are not if using points?? why/how?

They can book them for cash to pay for another member who used those points for a non-DVC stay. Like a cruise or Adv by Disney or something. MS in this case is acting just like Disney Reservation Center.

i'm also a DVC member and let's say i decide to trade my pts for a disney cruise. DVC takes my pts and used them to book the last of the SSR 2BRs on nov 7 and 8 and tries to rent those nights for cash. DVC needs the cash from that reservation to pay for my cruise. (DVC is a completely separate division of the disney corp. than the cruise division.)

so those nights are effectively already booked on my pts and they cannot be booked again with your pts. does that make sense?

if you couldn't use your pts and decided to rent a reservation made with your pts to some friends of yours, would it be ok for MS to cancel your rental reservation when i call up and need those nights with my pts? (that's kind of what you are saying, viewed from a different angle.)

without the ability to turn my pts into cash, DVC will not be able to allow trading out of the DVC resorts for cruising and such. it's a trade-off...but that's the theory...

We have HH on both cash and points we have a small contract there and just have others help with the cost.

no that's not really what I'm saying...I just thought rooms would be available either for points and/or cash..not one or the other ONLY...

The ones most likely to sell for a bunch of cash money to pay off ABD or DCL or whatever.
