I've been booking our Dec 4 to Dec 11 vacation day by day for the past week...We are getting a BWV 2bdrm Standard view which precepitates the need for day by day calling...any how everyday almost without exception I've made chit chat with the MS person while I've been making the ressie...We have 3 contracts and it was taking points from each and then a transfer of a few points from one contract to another to have enough points for the last night at BWV...

On Friday I specificallyl talked about transfering during the next phone call and MS didn't mention any special rules...

Well today I went to transfer points to have enough in one contract to make the ressie...I was using 2004 points for a Dec 2004 ressie but the rule is that until the points are current in the contract (meaning I would need to wait until March 2004 to make the transfer). She did say that with 48hrs notice a manger could make an exception and do the point transfer....

I explained that if I had been told about this delay on Last week while making my ressies I would have definately started the process....So, seeing that I wanted a 2bdrm Standard view she point me on hold for about 20mins and came back and said she was able to get her manager to OK it....

LESSON: Know the use year of the points you want transfered...and if it isn't current make arrangements prior to needing to make the ressie...

That's interesting as I was told the rules between your own contracts were much more lienient than between other members.

I guess I am confused as to why you have to "transfer points" when you have multiple contracts? I have 2 at OKW and 3 at VWL and have never had to "transfer" when I make my reservations. Even when I span use years like I did this past trip where I checked in on 30 Nov which is the end of one use year but stayed into the beginning of the next one.

It's too bad that we can't use points from multiple contracts to book a single nights stay. With so many members owning multiple contracts, this sure would eliminate a lot of transfering and linking of nights within a stay.

Simba Cub -
Are yours all the same use year and same owners?

I know I don't have "transfer" between mine were that is the case, but a change in UY or owners names will generate a new contract number as opposed to just adding the .1 or .2 to the end

Good thing she understands all this stuff, I sure don't.

InstImpres: Yes, all of my contracts are in my name and the same use year. I guess that is the difference however if the points are available to a person--differing use year for example--during the same time frame why would a person have to transfer points? I can understand if they are in different use years where they are not available--i.e. at the 11 month point not all contracts are available for a variety of reasons. Still, via banking which I do when spanning my use year, I still don't have to transfer points so why would someone else once they are placed into the time frame necessary to use them? Then again, it's Monday and my poor brain may be confused. . . :hyper:

Zurg, evil emperors are too busy fighting do-gooders to worry about matters such as making reservations

Zurg's Wife, interesting post - thanks

We have 3 separate contracts with 3 separate numbers in 3 different use years...though they are all at BWV....That must be the reason for having to transfer points.....though they said because the same names were on all I wouldn't have to fax all the signed paperwork back and forth...

I sure would like it to be a separate type of transfer for those of us that own different contracts in different use years....Even though I transfered the 2 points to my own account they are like a regular transfer and can not be banked if something changes with my plans....

It sounds like that's what Mrs. Zurg was trying to do.

It can be done, but it can be very confusing for MS. I did it a couple of times, transferring points at the 7 month window from two different contracts to fill out a ressie, and both times MS had to call in a supervisor to make it work.

I finally gave up and went with the advise of others who just fill out certain days of a ressie with one contract and then the remainder with another. Mostly, it ends up with a handful of points leftover to to bank.

I did that as long as I could but I had one night left to book for 24points....my contracts had 1pt., 22pts. and 9 pts.... so I had to transfer 2 points from one contract to the other to make the 24points....I justed didn't want to borrow points from 2005 yet as I might need them.....LOL

I just made a transfer of my June 04 allotment of points this morning. The CM put me on hold and came back after 5 minutes and said that since my points aren't technically available yet. That they wold have to do the transfer manually. She said to call back after 3PM today and get a transfer confirmation number then. About a month ago I transferred 50 June '04 points and had no problem. MS did it right away.

It's a thread like this, along with a couple of "transferring points" experiences that make me wish there was a class we could take on Point Management 101. I would happily give up an hour or two of my time to take it. Even if it was on the Member's Homecoming Days. Thank God for this board, or I wouldn't have a clue half the time.

you are making a reservation ,when making transfers between accounts do it using email.
You will then have a written record of your request.

Which is sound advice but I didn't realize that it was supposed to take 48hrs for special permission to use a use year that we haven't begun yet...So, email wouldn't have worked for me

First, transferred points can be banked, this was changed in 2000 at the time the holding account reservation window was changed from 30 to 60 days. I can also tell you that MS has a lot of flexibility with transfers between multiple contracts of a single owner. This includes transferring banked and borrowed points. Each transaction will have to be handled on a case by case basis though.
