NOTE THIS POST IS FROM 2005 and CONTAINS OUTDATED INFO.
Cast - 6 of us in two rooms. MIL and FIL in one room; Me, DH, DS 14 and DD 4 in the next room over. We had requested nonsmoking, connecting rooms, and bldg 3 or 4. We did get a nonsmoking building, and the rooms were right next to each other, but not connecting. It was building 5, rooms 5147 and 5148.
I gotta tell you, the location was SUPERB. They put us on the end of the building that was nearest the main building, where the food court and gift shop are. It's also one of the buildings that surrounds the pool and hot tub. We were on the ground floor, so it was a very short walk out the door and over to get our coffee mugs filled in the mornings.
Unfortunately, the prior occupants of my family's room had no respect for the "no smoking" rule of the building/room and when we opened the door, we were nearly knocked down by the billowing clouds of cigarette smoke pouring out of the room. Okay that's slightly exaggerated, but the room did reek, especially the bathroom. We didn't want to change rooms because the location was so nice and close to the main bldg (and besides my inlaws had already unpacked. So I went to the front desk and told them about the smell, and asked them to bring an air purifier and asked them to change all the linens and towels in the room. They wanted to just move us to different rooms, but it would have been in another building and we didn't want to move. So they did send mousekeeping right away to the room to start getting rid of the smell. When she was all done changing the beds and towels, she left the air purifier there in the room where it stayed and continued cleaning the air for the next 24 hours. She sprayed the room with odor neutralizer spray, too. They did do a really good job getting the smell out, which was greatly appreciated.
Didn't get to use the pool much, only one night did my DD and I venture into it. It was a bit too chilly for me, so we didn't stay long. The slide was already closed anyway, as it was 9:00 at night. We were chilled so thought we would hang for a while in the hot tub. It felt good at first b/c we were cold, but after 5 min or so it felt only as warm as lukewarm bathwater and it couldn't be warmed up even tho the setting was turned up.
The food court offerings were just fine. I was happy to find out that they did have beignets, yay! We were on the dining plan and an order of three beignets counted as the side/dessert for breakfast one morning. My entree was a croissant breakfast sandwich of scrambled eggs, bacon, and cheese. They don't really cook the eggs enough for me as I don't like scrambled eggs "wet" but it was okay. The beignets were really good. I can't compare them to Cafe du Monde's b/c it's been so long since I was there and had them there, but they were very good.
The drinks stations were well laid out, with a sink at one end to rinse out your refillable mug, and then soft drinks, coffee, creamer (which was half and half!) and hot chocolate down both sides of the station so there was never a lineup to get drinks. I thought it was laid out much better than at the Wilderness Lodge, where we have stayed most times.
I will say that at 6:30 a.m. I didn't care much for the music that they play in the food court building. I swear it's on a 5 minute looping track, and it sounds LOUD in the early morning when there aren't many people in there talking and making clatter. I love the beautiful grounds of the resort, and all the ironworking on the buildings, and the general theme of POFQ - but I didn't care for the HUGE heads hanging inside the food court area. I know it's Mardi Gras theming, and I could appreciate everything else, but there are a couple of GIANT heads hanging in there - like 6 or 8 feet tall or something! - and they just bothered me.
On our last day there, we had several snack credits left on our dining plan, so we just got several bottled drinks with them. Any bottled drink was fine, which is different from how it was in the parks. At the parks you could only get bottled cokes and bottled water.
Didn't have any problems at the bus stop, either, no long waits or anything.
The resort was quiet and relaxing, and I really did like it a lot. Up to now, we had only stayed at Deluxes and I am happy that we now know that we like at least one of the Moderates, as well.
Here are some photos I have to share.
This is building 5, on Cake Walk lane. The way the sidewalks are laid out like little streets, with street signs and all, is really cute and makes you feel like you are living in the French Quarter. The horses pulling the carriages go clip-clopping down the street every so often, and it's really quaint.
Our two rooms. The entries are on a "slant", slightly facing each other.
This photo shows how close to the food court we were. This is room 5148 on the corner, and the yellow bldg in the right hand background is the restaurant/food area.
One of the streets, this one is the one between the food court bldg and the pool/playground/hot tub area.
This is the back entry into the main building. The gift shop is the double doors on the left, the doors in the center go into the lobby, and the food court is on the right.
Our room. We had requested extra pillows. The beds were comfortable and quiet, no squeaking or anything when you turned over. They are full-size beds, though, a little small if you're used to queensize or bigger. One thing I did miss in the room was a table lamp. All of the lights were just very bright and rather than turn any of the lights on in the morning when I was getting up to go get coffee, I dressed in the dark b/c DH and DD were still sleeping. Oh, and having a fridge in the room was nice although we didn't use it that much. There was plenty of room for us, even had a little table for two in the room, same as at the WL. Vanity area is separate from the stool/tub room, which is always nice as some can be getting ready at the 2 vanities while others are showering. I don't know about square footage, but the room didn't seem any smaller than the bunk bed rooms we've had at WL.
These are the two treats that mousekeeping left us.

We will be going in Dec, with my family of 10.
I requested building 4 facing the courtyard or building 5. From your pictures,(which I enjoyed looking at) I can see that things ARE pretty close to each other. I can also see what you mean about the heads hanging over you, as you eat. Scary!!
We've never been to WDW, so looking forward to everything.
