Ok, are pofq and por the same resort now? If so, could we end up in pofq even though we booked por? How far is pofq from por? A CM told me today that if the por pool is in rehab while we are there (next March) we can use the pofq pool. So is it an easy walk? What's the deal? I requested Alligator Bayou in por (I think my kids, DD7, DD5 and DS2, will like the theming there more), but I just don't have enough facts to feel comfortable.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Oh POFQ used to just be called Port Orleans and POR used to just be called Dixie Landings. My understanding is they changed the name and put them under one management team. No longer managed as separate properties. I may be wrong about that.

But anyway, if you booked POR then you should most definitely get POR. There should be no problem there at all.

The walk from POR to POFQ is 5 to 10 minutes give or take. Not far at all, but not real short either. There is a very well done pathway between the two.

If you book POR-FQ you'll get that. If you book POR-Riverside, you'll get that. They are sister resorts, like the different All Stars, but you get whichever you book at.

The question is if you will get the Mansion side of POR-Riverside or the Bayou side. We happen to love the Bayou, because of the great shade, and the feeling that our building is the only building there (with all the trees blocking others). You can request one over the other on your ressie's, but it's always luck of the draw. I think there are a lot more kids on the Bayou side, prob because of the roll out beds a lot of the rooms have. If there are 5 of you, you will get the Bayou side, because they can sleep five, if one is a child, with the rollouts. No rollouts on the Mansion side last I knew.

Just a few things to add:

1. We stayed at POR (then Dixie Landings) Mansions section with five people in 2000. We just did without the trundle bed. They looked at us kinda funny, but they let us do it. (Our kids fight over who gets the privilege of sleeping on the floor). Normally they will only place five person parties in the Bayou section. We stayed in the Aligator Bayou section in 2002 and used the trundle bed.

2. If you don't want to walk between resorts, you can catch the riverboat if you time it right. We rode it from resort to resort so that we could use the POFQ (then Port Orleans) pool in 2000. The timing options are not plentiful, but its an excuse to ride the boat.

3. POR has one central themed pool and six "normal" pools that are spread through the resort. You will still be able to swim nearby every day and save the trip to POFQ for the themed pool for special days.

Enjoy yourselves.

PORS is the former Dixie Landings. POFQ is the former Port Orleans. The two resorts sit side by side also a river.

PORS is has two themes; Mansions are old southern planations mansions and Alligator Bayou is old south in the Bayou. The resort has absolutely beautiful grounds! There is a main pool with a slide (old swimming hole) this is probably what is being renovated during your stay. The resort also has several quiet pools scattered -- quiet meaning no slide, a basic pool.
You would have to be in the AB rooms because they have a trundle and sleeps 5. If you told the CM you had 5 in your party and requested AB, you are all set. The Mansions can hold only 4 people in a room.

POFQ is about a 5 to 10 minute walk from PORS, its a nice walk along the river. The theme here is New Orleans and Mardi Gras. Its smaller, (#of rooms, and area of coverage) than PORS. They do not have any quiet pools, just one main pool which you can use, even if the pool was not being renovated at PORS (this is because they are sister resorts).

You didn't say when you were going but there was a thread earlier that said they had delayed the rehab of Old Man Island (main theme pool at Riverside) until at least Jan. They did this because of the closure of CBR and the fact that Riverside was taking up some of the rooms from that closure. So, the main pool at Riverside may be open when you are there.

We've stayed at both and prefer FQ. But, it is personal preference in the theme that made the difference for us. Both resorts have similar rooms except for the interior decorating aspect. The trundle bed would be nice for your younger ones and it rolls right under the bed during the day which is nice in that you can get it out of your way.

We will be there in March. Do you think the rehab will be finished? I called the POR front desk and the CM I talked to knew nothing of a pool rehab, although she said if they are going to do it, that's the time of year they would.

One never knows about Disney's schedule. I know before when they were going to do it in Sept/Oct timeframe they were going to have it open for Thanksgiving. I would assume that if they start it in January that it would be done by the end of Feb but could spill over into March. As your time gets closer you could call and ask. They will probably know more around January or so.
