Anyone going on the Podcast cruise thinking of doing the Dolphin Encounter in Nassau?

I am thinking of signing up for my two daughters (7 and 8) and myself. But trying to figure out how I could take lots of pictures without risking getting my camera wet.

Then it dawned on me, I am sure other DISers would be there and we could take pictures of each other with each other's cameras.

Anyone else interested?

Not going on the cruise but my DSi and her DBF did this on our cruise, they had a good time and got some excellent pics, probably because she has a waterproof case for her camera.

We are. I keep asking who is interested (here at home) and both kiddies (DD 9 and DS 6) raise their hands. Claiming that they won't be afraid of the dolphins (even if they see teeth). I fear that they will chicken out, so I'm getting them used to the idea now. They have 'informed' me that dolphins don't eat mammals (and humans are mammals..MOM!). So, I just nod.

This is a lifelong dream of mine..so I REALLY want to do this.

Does anyone know if we should pack a 'lunch' to take with us in a soft side cooler?

I really want to do this. I am also afraid my son will chicken out and all the money will be wasted. I was thinking about booking the swim for myself and just having him watch with my DH. I think that would probably be more both of their speeds.

In case you didn't know. This is the place that runs the tours. http://www.dolphinswims.com/ There is a lot of info on their site.

I think it is a morning or afternoon thing. So if you did early you would have a late lunch. If you did afternoon you would have an early lunch.

I went when my husband and went on our honeymoon in 2002. I did the dolphin encounter..which is you go to a little holding area and stand in the water on cage floor. The dolphin comes to the trainer and then to you and gives you a kiss. You get to pet them and have an "encounter" with them. It is a short experience..but it is fun. If you want a more in depth experience..you can do the swim with the dolphins...I saw a family doing this..I wish I would have done that..more time and interaction with the dolphin. The encounter is nice..but you are in line with many other people..and it takes a while. Hope that helps! It was a neat experience though!

We haven't tried it yet but planning in our next trip hopefully this year before the year ends.

Have a nice day everyone. :)

We did the encounter last summer. We loved it! We used our regular camera and had no problems. You don't really get more than waist high in the water. You stand on a little platform. And there isn't really time to eat lunch either. You get there, see a little video and have some instruction, then go.

Then you have a few minutes afterward to browse their gift shop and wait around for your pictures that they take and try to sell, and then you leave.

I researched it on Youtube. There are lots of videos on there so you can see the entire encounter and know what to do. The boat ride over is kinda long, but beautiful. You pass HUGE mansions and the water is gorgeous!!

I just made reservations for the 9:30 Nassau Dolphin Encounter too. I look forward to seeing you there.

And any other DISers coming too!

I just booked the 9:30 too. My DH will be observing and DS and I will do the Encounter.

I have a waterproof case for my camera and I will be bring that too.

Anyone else coming on the Dolphin Encounter in Nassau?
