Happy Valentines Day folks! :wave2:

Wow Bex - you get to cruise with Pete & Walter!!! I haven't caught up with the recent podcasts so don't know the details but it is going to be a fab time :cloud9:

Went downtown to watch Opening Ceremony on Friday nite, and watched from a corporate sponsor site, Bell Ice Cube - a venue sponsored by Bell with huge screens that were going to show the OC.

While we were waiting for the telecast of the OC, news broke with the details of the tragedy of the Georgian luge athlete. It felt like the air was sucked out of the venue...all the celebratory vibe was replaced with disbelief and sadness. Pics stopped being taken. Tears welled. The entire venue was quiet. It felt the whole community really understood the loss. :sad1:

When the OC began, people applauded the direct reference of the IOC and Vancouver Olympic Committee Presidents gave to the loss of the athlete, and spectators had heartfelt appreciation of the Georgian contingent to march in the parade of athletes with black armbands. :grouphug:

The rest of the OC was enjoyed immensely by all those at the Cube - complete with rousing applause when the whale pods swam thru. I was wondering whether what I saw in person at the reheasal on Wed would translate to the tv screen during the live OC and whether viewers would "get it"...clearly they did! :yay: Altho they boo'd at the end when the 4th pillar failed to rise :rolleyes1

Debate here continues on whether the luge track is too aggressive, etc. but mostly only by laypeople. The Olympic committee is putting the safety of the sport in luge's overseeing organization for them to determine what is best for the athletes. Luge is now scheduled to resume.

BTW, I  Bryan Adams!!!

cheers,
:flower3:

Ack!

I was away last night.

My VCR did not record the opening ceremonies well and I must not have set the time right. I started taping at 7:00, nothing important. I only got about 20-30 minutes after the parade of nations.

What I have seen so far, is great. We really liked the particpation of the native First Nations people!

I am trying to find the opening ceremony online now.

Oh no - I hope you were able to find it :goodvibes

We watched the highlights, I'm not sure if they showed the whole thing but it was on so late I wasn't going to stay up to see it. I was impressed by what I saw.

Hi ya, I can't believe we can swing it to get on the cruise - when I found out I put in a quote thinking it would be over budget and even if not I thought Gav wouldn't be able to get the time off work, but it all fell into place and we've spent the weekend looking at excursions and what all these places have to offer :thumbsup2

I agree so very tragic about the Georgian :sad1: I was pleased that they paid respect to him and his country/teammates  The Canadians have had a few hurdles, I hope the rest of the games goes a little better.

I liked the bits I saw of the OC - the whales were impressive, I bet seeing it live was awesome.

I was watching the mens luge yesterday evening and they sure do go quick :scared1: exhilarating but you wouldn't catch me doing it :scared1:

Happy Monday everyone

:wave2: Hey gang! I've been away from the boards for a while, just have a lot of stuff going on, but I at least wanted to stop in and say hi!

That's not a Canadians way. We (America) would try to do that. M hat is off to Vancouver for an elegant show. (Even if Bryan Adams is a tool.:sad2:)

I was impressed at the courtesy shown to the Native Canadians and their traditions.

You are correct Donna I didn't read Todd's post right. So I guess I owe Todd a slushie or something. :) Oh, and keep the squat buddy. :rotfl:

He kinda cuts you like a knife doesn't he?

GROAN! But I like being right!

Lyn, this link should take you to a collection of videos from the opening ceremony. CTV is the Canadian network carrying the games.

Karen - I have to ask if you have succumbed to the "red mitts" yet? They are very warm. :thumbsup2

Morning all...It's Family Day here and I woke up daydreaming about the cruise, and pre and post cruise plans. DH wants to drive. I kind of want to squeeze in a day at Discovery Cove for DD. I lounged in bed watching my video from Discovery Cove, and wishing I was somewhere warm. *Sigh*

Thanks. The NBC site was not exactly what I was hoping for.

We often switch to the Canadian channel from Sherbrook, Quebec. Not as much "filler" interviews, history of this and that, and the like. I don't always follow what is going on because my French is not so good.

Hold On. We are only on thread two c'mon guys we only have 9 months and 25 days left

Which we don't carry around here. :guilty:
I'm glad that it wasn't just given to CBC, but at least I can watch CBC.
I detest NBC's coverage of the Olympics.

But I think you may be able to watch the CTV coverage on line if you are so inclined. I have been doing that a lot. They have live feeds of every event on their web site. :goodvibes

I am not a fan of NBC's coverage either, but I do get the choice. (but with Canadian commercials overriding) BUT I don't get to watch the videos the American networks offer on line. The feed is blocked outside the borders of the U.S. (just like Radio Disney :sad2:)

Ever watch Little Mosque on the Prairie?

Hi guys! Hope everyone had a fun V-day weekend!!

We went and rang in the New Year in Chinatown on Sunday and had a good time.

Can't believe less than 10 more months until Podcast Cruise Todd.0!! :thumbsup2

What is so bad about NBC? All I know is that they do Heroes :confused3

So how did you celebrate the Chinese New Year? Which year is it now - I'm thinking dog?

So have you been working on the Todd.0 logo - I think it should feature the thong

Happy Tuesday folks :goodvibes I'm starting to notice it getting lighter in the mornings now - finally! Spring is almost here :yay: :yay: :yay:

Good Morning Computernet Friends!!!

Happy Packzi Day! Happy Mardi Gras! Happy Fat Tuesday! (A packzi is like a donut on steriods..extra calories, extra fat, extra filling, extra good!)

What local traditions does your community have on Fat Tuesday/Mardi Gras?

Not sure of klam's adventures in Vancouver, but my friend is having a blast! He compares it to the atmosphere on Bourbon Street, but while wearing parkas. Every time he goes to a pub, there seems to be a group from another country and inevitably their national anthem gets sung. Then the whole place sings the Canadian national anthem. And on par with Canadian tradition, he says that everywhere he has gone he had been greeted warmly and like family.
