Please help me with a room request for Shades of Green!

I think we've decided to switch our reservation to Shades of Green. We are a family of 5 - dh and myself, plus two teens and a baby - and we're to the point of finding it difficult to squeeze into one room anymore. I can do two rooms at SoG for the price of one Disney room . . . so . . . we're switching.

I'm hoping I can get some advice about a room request. Ideally, I'd like to minimize our walk time to the busses and to the Polynesian. We'll have a baby in a stroller, so would love things to be convenient as possible. Pool access is not all that important to us - it's more about minimizing the walking. Can I request first floor near the bus stop, for instance? Is that the original section or the new section?

Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. We've stayed at the Polynesian and AKL before and loved them both. But like I said, I think we've just about outgrown the ability to comfortably fit into one room.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I may have been misinformed, but I was told the access to the bus stop is not on any floor that has rooms and you will have to take the stairs or elevator to get to the level (or section of the hotel) that the bus stop is on. :confused3 For the life of me, I can't visualize this layout. Can you only get there by using the main elevator? Do you have to use an entirely seperate elevator which only gets you to the bus stop? I'm so confused.

I believe that the only way to the buses is throught the main lobby. You have to use the stairs in the front or the front elevator. We stayed on the first floor last visit and we had to go to the second floor through the lobby and back down to the first floor. It was a pain with a full stroller too. I think that this visit I will request a 2nd floor room closer to the lobby. We have an infant this trip, so I too would like a shorter walk.

Just request the rooms to be as close to the lobby as possible. The bus comes in in front of the lobby, there's two driveways in front of the lobby one at the front door and the other is down one level. So when you walk out the front door you can walk stright to the driveway or go down the steps to the bus. Try the food by the bus stop, the sandwichs are wondeful. Tina

Tina,

Thanks for the advice. I can easily request a room (2 rooms, actually) as close to the lobby as possible. I'm confused about the two driveways/two levels description, however. Can you clarify? Does one bus route go to the lobby level and the other bus route go to the other level? Just can't quite picture what you mean . . . :confused3

Oh, and by the way - if I request rooms as close to the lobby as possible, would that be in the original section or the new section?

Does anybody know what the real differences are between the two sections? I've read conflicting reports. One post said that the double sinks located separately from the toilet/tub area are located *only* in the new section. Is that true? Has anybody stayed in both sections, or at least seen rooms in both sections?

And does anybody know where I can access a resort map for Shades of Green? I think there's an old one (ie, pre-renovation) on Deb's site, but I don't know where a new one is.

Thanks so much!! :)

I have stayed in both sections. The double sink that is seperate from the bath is only in the new section. The newer section is much nicer (although I liked the old section too. I will try to explain the 2 level thing. The lobby is on the 2nd floor and they have a driveway for valet parking and drop off/pick up and then there is a lower floor where the cafe is and the buses meet there. I LOVE Shades os Green and cant wait to go back in January. The easiest rooms to get to the buses would be lobby level but you will still need to take the elevator down.

THis is incorrect. We have stayed in more than one room in the old section that had a double sink separate from the room that contained the tub/toilet. Specifically, the very first room to the left, right after the windowed corridor has this layout.

There bus system does run as often as the other Disney resorts. So we used the Poly a good amount of time. Its a short walk and sometimes you can catch the SOG golf cart. Tina

oh sorry. I was just going off of what our room looked like in the old section. We stayed on the bottom floor poolside. I guess they have different layouts.

The resort is hugh! We walked and walked. I hope you are able to find adjoining rooms in the new section that isn't too far away from everything. The resort is very nice. However, I have friends that requested adjoining rooms on two different trips and were near each other, but not adjoining. They were on different sides of the hall. :confused3 Still for that price at Disney, you can't complain.

When are you planning on going? The time of year and how crowded it is may be a consideration for adjoining rooms.

I hope you have a wonderful trip and pixie dust to the perfect location and rooms. :sunny:

We are facing this same dilemma, deciding where we want to request our rooms in late June. We will be swimming every day, I'm sure, but we also want as short a walk as possible from the buses. I downloaded the resort map from the SoG site, so I think I'll just show it to my family and see what they all want to do. (Usually the answer is, "You decide, Mom, you're always right when it comes to Disney!" :))

You want to request rooms in the newer section, away from the pool and close to the parking garage. During our stay last January, we had rooms here on the lobby level, which was very convenient.

You can download a map at the SOG website:

Perfect! I thought I had seen everything on the SoG website, but had missed the pdf gallery that contains the map. Thanks much! :thumbsup2 :teeth:

Christina,

That does help - got it! 2nd floor is for car traffic only; 1st floor is for the buses. Now I understand. Thanks so much, and I'm glad to hear that you like it so much. :)

There must be two different room layouts in the old section. That would explain why I've seen conflicting reports on whether the original section had the double sinks. No wonder I was confused! ;)

Thanks,

Sounds like me. I love to discuss the intricacies of WDW trip planning with my family, but they just like to show up and enjoy themselves. Oh well, at least we have each other and the DIS. We fanatics have to feed each others' habits. :rotfl:

Actually, that IS adjoining. Adjoining rooms are rooms that are next to or near each other.

I had one of those "all in one" bathrooms in the old section on our very first visit to SOG (1999). It was not until after we returned home and read on these boards that there was another layout. When we checked in on the next visit, I requested a room with the separate layout. The front desk staff had no idea there was a choice. On that and the next visit, we got the separate layout. I figure reason there is a choice is probably because the "all in one" layout is for wheelchair access????.

FYI, SOG does not do room assignments until check in. You can make you request at the time of reservation for adjoining, location, etc. and they do note the request, but there are no guarantees. When requesting multiple rooms, if you do request adjoining and they can't accomodate that (happened to us before), they can usually get a near by room.
