Please help me decide

On one hand I have a washer/dryer/kitchen at home and don't really want to be acquainted with them on vacation, especially if on the dining program.

On the other hand we've visited the grounds of all the resorts mentioned and would take SSR in a minute (only if we had a car as you do).

However the draw of the Poly SO CLOSE to MK and the monorail is huge too.

The space at the DVC is extremely tempting.

I'm not much help. LOL

Maybe you should show dh and the kids pictures of the resorts and take a vote.

Just curious....Besides room size....What did you like
better about OKW....
I've only been to SSR for DVC so far.
Thanks
Kerri
Well honestly the decor at SSR is a negative for me. This one is harder to explain. I love theming in resorts and the theming in SSR falls short. It feels "cold" to me when I go there. It's really hard to explain, but that is a huge negative. I also do not like the location of it. It feels to "exposed" to DtD. I like being relaxed and hidden from life so it's again just a personal feel.

If I am going to get a smaller room size, I would rather the entrances be from the inside. I am not always keen on the outdoor rooms, but I am totally fine at OKW since I feel more secluded there and the room size helps me to forget ;)

While OKW is a big resort, I feel like the layout is better. We got easily lost at SSR while walking around.

In the end after staying at a few resorts SSR won't even make my list of a place I would stay. I like all the other DVC resorts, just not SSR at all.

I would also do the Poly. I don't know, when I'm on vacation, I like to FEEL that I'm on vacation, KWIM? I'm not one to cook and clean while on vacation.

I love the closeness of the Poly and all of the amenities.

Good luck and have a wonderful trip!

Okay, I am a HUGE fan of OKW (not at all one of SSR though) and I would still stay at the Polynesian given all you said. Granted having a car will make it easier for you if you did stay at OKW, but having kids that young, I would still keep the Polynesian IMO. Keep in mind also you are going to have to have your kids share a fold out instead of a real bed at OKW. Especially having the DDP makes the bonus of having a kitchen kind of null.

The layout and size of the rooms at OKW is awesome! They are astoundingly huge! But I still would keep close to MK and the TTC with young ones.

Thanks for your response. What is it that you like about OKW better than SSR?

HI there ignitorr,
Sorry I just emailed you again with some questions if you don't mind getting back to me. Your help is greatly appreciated!! thanks again!!

Thanks for the response. What exactly did you mean by feeling exposed to DTD? Is it the fact that you can see it from the resort? Frankly that's one of the appealing factors to me as I get the benefit of the larger room/amenities, while still feeling like I am part of the Disney magic - bright lights, fireworks, etc.. Whereas at OKW I feel like we would be so secluded from everything else that is Disney.

As another poster stated the W/D is significant to us, as are the seperate sleeping areas. The Kitchen may not get a huge amount of use due to the DDP but it will be nice for a quick snack.

The in room whirlpool is an added bonus too.

Thanks to all who have responded and keep your thoughts coming, they are all appreciated.

We have stayed at OKW for exactly your reasons, (kitchen, laundry, and sheer size - we had a 2 bdrm villa), and also at CR, GF, and WL. After having tried numerous resorts (with a small child), we still opt for a monorail resort. At some point in the future, we WILL try Poly, simply for the tropical theming, regardless of some of the negative reviews. For us, being in a monorail resort is paramount, and well worth the money. I think that you would definitely enjoy Poly. While we cannot say anything bad about OKW, it just wasn't outstanding. We did not enjoy the "spread out-ed ness", the lack of food choices, and everything is by bus (except downtown disney). Having experienced having the kitchen and laundry, it was nice, but not imperative for us. Not worth being so far away from MK and the monorail. I guess for us, the monorail is a big part of being at Disney. Good luck with your choice!
