Please check my carry on ...

I used to be a fairly frequent flyer, as a child, I was an "every other weekend" girl from SDO to LAX, then twice a year from BOS to LAX. I also did some business travel as an adult, but I haven't flown since before 9/11.

I have purchased some travel sizes of essentials under 3 oz (though one is 3.2, 95 ml - anyone know if that is OK?) and am packing all the regular sizes. My laptop is in a sleeve and I know I have to pull it out. I will have the children (and DH :rotfl2:) prepared to easily remove their shoes.

I'm most concerned about two things, my small nail scissors and my husband's electric toothbrush. According to the TSA site, the nail scissors are OK as a carry on (less than 4" in total). Mine have a slightly curved blade and TSA says straight. Should I put them in a checked bag? I don't see anything about electric toothbrushes, but DH would be awfully upset to have it taken. I can bring a manual extra and pack the electric, if it is best.

I really want the check in experience to go smoothly. We are first flight out in the morning. {sleepy}

Anything else I should be concerned about? :confused3

The 95 ml bottle is ok...you get up to 100 ml (or 3.4 oz), for us to match the metric system a little better.
Note that all of your small bottles will need to go in a 1 quart (or 1 liter) ziploc bag. Each of your party may have one of these bags.

For the larger bottles you are planning to check...please consider putting them in larger ziploc bags, in case of leakage. Could damage your belongings as well as other peoples if it seeps through luggage.

Electric toothbrush is fine in carryone.

Nail scissors are technically fine...but I would put those in my checked bag anyway. Save you the hassle if a TSA agent decides to stop you to measure them or anything like that. Also, not something you would normally 'need' on a plane (though some people do think it is a good time to trim their nails...not sure why...I think grooming tasks such as that aren't appropriate in that setting, but that could be a whole other thread).

have a good trip!

On the scissors, just check them, no reason to have them taken from you. The electric toothbrush should be no problem, and the 3.2 oz is fine, as they will actually allow you 100ml which is 3.4 oz, 1- 1 quart bag per person.

We fly about 3 x a year so we SHOULD know how to get thru the security line w/o a scene but we still always manage to be dysfunctional about it. Having to pull out the quart size bags to put them in the tray is a hassle - I always put ours (1 each) in an outside zipper pocket on our carry-on bags so that they're easy to get to and then easy to put back after going thru security. Slip on / off shoes are easiest. Don't wear lots of metal on your clothing. (I once made the mistake years ago of wearing bib overall short things - WAY too much metal to set off the alarms.) Easiest thing is to check as much as you can in your checked luggage. I believe lighters are prohibited but matches are not. If you want anything other than a 30 SPF sunscreen good luck finding it in a travel size - you'll have to check them. Agree that the gallon size ziplocks can save a mess in your luggage. I have heard of people having lip gloss confiscated so be sure to put all that kind of stuff in your quart bag too. Wait until after you're through Security to purchase any drinks or bottled water. No open beverages can go through. You will need your Drivers License out as your ID with your boarding passes until you get thru Security too so a pocket is always handy...
