Unfortunately I am unable to attend the Member Homecoming due to the fact that it is a bad time for me to be gone from work. But after reading all the post on the other thread on this subject, I was curious on how many people do plan to go or not go for certain reasons. For those who go, I’m jealous.

Had I known about this before making SSR ressies I might have reconsidered my dates, we will be at SSR beginning June 6. I do fear the dates are too close to the end of school if we have any snow days tacked on we would be in trouble.

No, we can't go because of work. I teach, UC's quarter ends June 12th!

I guess I'm not up to date. What is the member homecoming? When ? Where? TIA!

Affordability has nothing to do with value, which was the point of my comment.

We will be there the last week of April and first week of May.

MSDIS, it was just announced this week. The details are on the Member website and in the latest Member Clubhouse. It's May 25-27 to coincide with the opening of SSR.

Thanks Pam-will check it out. We are booked last week of April too so I guess we will miss it too.

Didn't vote because we would have gone if there had been sufficient notice. We are going to be there until the 22nd and already have airline tickets for a couple of family members that are meeting us there. Too bad, it does sound fun.

Im going to try to talk dh in going and if he cant because of work, i think ill just take the kids, its only three days out of school and airfare is so cheap, that is another reason why i woudnt mind going:sunny: anyone have 3 days of points to rent :teeth:

Not going because....

1. We book at 11 month window and can only go to WDW once a year. So the announcement came out way too late for DVC members.

2. They made it a tough time of the year...why wouldn't they do this during the summer when kids are out of school? Probably because they don't need to draw people then.

3. It needs to be ticket only...the admissions/ticket charge seems really high and a bad value to us.

Gee...I guess this wasn't going to fit us no matter how much notice or when they made it.

Not going and wouldn't consider it even if we were already at WDW. I believe it is nothing more than a member funded advertisement for DVC's Saratoga Springs. Saves Disney any costs for the opening day events. There is no way the quality of any of the food/late night access justifies the extra costs. Just another money-making scheme dreamed up in a smokey "Roy-less" boardroom.

I'd love to see the huge line of members waiting for mission space after Epcot closes. Besides Epcot doesn't clear out till after 10:00 and that leaves 2 hours for member party in future world.

To be quite honest I hope the whole thing is a flop. Maybe it will prevent the scheduling of future such disappointing member events.

Why can't Disney just keep it simple and have an e-night only for DVC members a couple times a month. Disney gets there usual $12.00/ticket, and members feel like they're getting a special perk. Win/Win. Duh!

Doesn't Disney realize that the bulk of members bought DVC because they really like WDW vacations and want to save money in the long run.

There hasn't been one "special event" that has been cheaper than the going rate for comperable Disney ammenities or services.

Well, I confess I'm a bit surprised at the anger that the MH has generated here on the DVC board; surprised and a bit disappointed. I started looking at DVC when the TPA and Resorts boards got all bitter during the Great AP Discount Debate of 2003. I thought I'd found a bit of a "family" here, what with all the helpful advice and "Welcome Homes" I received. But now I see folks hoping that the MH - which will be attended only by DVC owners - is a failure ("flop"). What next - hoping that SSR gets infested with termites?

I always get a little amazed when I start to see a whole lot of cost-benefit analysis here on the DIS. True, we live in the real world, and few have an unlimited supply of $$$, but let's be honest; there are a lot of other, less costly, options for vacations/timeshares in Central Florida. Most of us here have purchased DVC ownership because of that special intangible that is "Disney Magic". It's hard to quantify; you can take a gross of mouse ear hats, chop them up, and boil them down - you'll never find any Pixie Dust. But there must be something, otherwise why do we all pay a premium for almost everything Disney?

Well, Johnnie F, I hope you're wrong, as DW and I already had plans to be there at that time, and I'll be on the phone Dec 17 to make MH ressies. And as we're eating dessert in Epcot, watching our own Spectromagic and listening to the brass bands as they officially open our home resort, I assure you that we'll feel that it was worth every penny.

A loving couple sharing the Disney Magic - and creating one-of-a-kind memories - of some unexpected special events during our first trip "home"; or two deluded saps, foolishly overpaying for nothing but an advertisement. I guess it's just a matter of perspective and priorities - I kinda like ours better.... :happy1:

Erick

PS - JF, I hope that your next few Disney trips are filled with wonder and fun. ::yes::

DrTomorrow,

Sorry about your experience on the other boards, but occasionally topics aren't always happy-dappy here too.

When I refer to the whole thing flopping, I'm speaking of attendancewise, and not your personal vacation experience. I've attended several of these type of events at Disney and always found them to be dissappointing. I'd like to see some reasonable $$ events for DVCers instead of an obviously overpriced event. I'm sure anyone attending will have a good time. At that cost you couldn't afford not to.

I don't wish for anyone to have a bad vacation. When it comes to vacation spending/experiences everyone certainly creates their own reality/memories. Lets not forget many people think DVC is overpriced and we're stupid for buying into it.

BTW, I've enjoyed each and every one of my DVC vacations and will continue to. I'd just like to see a change in the way (I believe) Disney views the average DVCer. We have made many changes in how we vacation at Disney to reflect our views.

With your money and that of many other members, I'm sure Disney will make their bottom line $$ amount for the event and will be able to call it a success from their standpoint.

JMO, but I bet most people on this board would prefer to see Disney give a 10-15% DVC discount on park passes than any of these "special member events"

That would go a lot further as a "member special event" in my book.

Hope you have the best vacation ever!

Great. We're there for the Grand Opening of BCV and DVC doesn't do diddley. And Member Days started AFTER our summer vacation last year. No way to make it down for Member Homecoming. My (vacation) timing is really bad.
