If we would have known when we were booking our vacation we would have changed from the first week of May. But they announced it too late!

Oh well!

Kelly

One thing I agree with folks on is the odd timing of the MH announcement. To wait until the 7 month deadline had passed - thus assuring that most folks had booked their spring/summer ressies - seems to suggest that they didn't want a lot of people to choose those dates specifically for the MH. Instead, it's whoever just happens to have booked those dates. If they wanted a strong turnout, they would have given advance notice so that all of us fans of "Special Events" could have deliberately booked those weeks.

PS We do have two PAP vouchers that are coming up on their first birthday, first due to FTP, then the MH. When we do finally activate them, we'll have to blow the dust off them! ;)

The Members' Only Cruise was another special event that seemed inordinately expensive-yet I believe we heard it was a big success--can anyone comment if it warrented the extra costs..we would not have gone to this since it is during school but even if it were not --it seems very expensive--two park days and one trip to a water park or DQ or PI that is worth about $130--so for an E ticket night at MK and a couple of extra hours at Epcot plus the meal at MK and the dessert at Epcot plus a party at SSR it is $170...let's see E ticket is worth $12...Epcot E ticket is nonexistent but worty no more than that so let's subtract our $24..meal at MK let's make it worth $30 and dessert at Epcot $15..so that means it is around $100 to attend the SSR grand opening party...per person --even if you want to say that alot is for the special parties or whatever it just seems way too expensive--to us..but I would be interested in knowing if the Cruise- which seemed too expensive ended up being really amazingly special enough to warrant the extra costs.

I would certainly go if I did not already have my vacation time planned.
As with the member cruise, I wish DVC would announce these things earlier.

I'd like to go, but I need more time to plan. May is a school time also.

I was hoping for another DVC cruise. I was really going to try to make it to that one next year.

I though the Light up the sky - was pretty expensive when this board did it - also I though members would get special viewing of the fireworks and Spectro Magic Parade (the later with only DVC members in the park)

E-nights are just the main rides - not Spectro Magic Parade or special viewing of the fireworks

I think both of these are $50 or $75 per person - the tickets are $55 each day - which comes up to $260 - so the lunch can be around $40 per person - and you would come out okay.

now if I am going or not - depends - I need to use points in my holding account to get my DVC reservations and I would think they would be long gone before my 60 day period comes up.

Now if member services doesn't care where we stay - that might be different....I really love the new Pop Century and this may be a time to make reservations there.

I agree with Johnnie Fedora's post 100%. DVC has not given us members 1 break on anything.

I know when we bought in(DVC) we are only guaranteed 1st class accomodations at a fixed price, and I really don't expect much more. But I don't think it would break Disney to add maybe 1 yearly event, cruise, etc for DVC members only without gouging ($$) the DVC members (MH,DVC Cruise, etc) in order for us to get it.

Eventually DVC will see a lot of members are using there DVC for accomodations but spending a lot of there money elsewhere, where WDW could be getting more of our money with discount on park passes, special events, etc.

At the price they are asking ($299), even if they would have given 11 months notice..........we would not go.

We will be there for this event with another family (10 all together) but we have annual passes and I would not consider paying admission twice. When we bought our annual passes it was over $1000.00 and to go to this event for a family of 4 it would be over $1000.00. Now I bought into DVC so I'm not cheap, just realistic (pay for admission twice, I don't think so)

Hope they reconsider, not fail, Just reconsider!!!!!!!!!!::yes::

If WE are mad at Disney (We who love nothing better than lining Mickey's cute little pockets with our hard earned $) think how much the rest of the world's population is reacting to Michael Eisner "screw 'um as hard and fast as you can" mentality.

$299? Explain, if you can, how what is being offered adds up to that princely sum!

I found the timing of this announcement a bit odd, because I believe most members plan a year in advance for their vacations, and allocate their points accordingly. Planning a member event just 5 months ahead of time is strange, to say the least. Many of us are school teachers and/or have kids who are still in school at that time. Wouldn't it make more sense to plan these things a year in advance, and at a time of year when everyone could go? I would have liked to go, but...well, $1000 for our family is way too steep for us to consider it, even if it had been in June, July, or August.:teacher:

Nick,

Not sure which of Johnny's posts you agree 100% with: the one containing this:
To be quite honest I hope the whole thing is a flop.
or this
When I refer to the whole thing flopping, I'm speaking of attendancewise,
But this was all covered last summer (simply replace "Annual Passholders" with "DVC owners" when it comes to complaints that "Disney doesn't do squat for its best customers").

I do agree that "value for the money" is subjective; you get everything MH includes: two-day hoppers, meals, parties, enights-plus (private Spectros, etc) and unspecified goodies all for less that one night in a Contemporary Tower room.

tvwalsh, I think spiceycat already did....

Oh well; I'm more than happy to civilly agree to disagree. :love2:

For us its not solely a matter of money. Lord knows they get enough of ours, in this case it is a matter of Principle.....We are not paying for admission twice.........Period, we have annual passes. Let's put it this way.
1)You fill your gas tank on the way to the garage for an oil change.
2) The garage charges you $30.00 extra dollars ($49.00 instead of $19.00) for your service, for a "free" tank of fuel.
3) You say fine, I'll be back when the tank is empty.
4) They say NO, take it now or you can't have it.

That the way the annual pass holders feel.....:chat:

Did anybody else get their invitation in the mail today?

Pretty nice... They put some thought into this whole thing... They just didn't think it all the way thru!!!!

Won't be going. Wasn't planning to be there anyway but even if I was it seems way overpriced to me. I'd rather do an e-ticket night and have dinner at V&A!

No need to replace "Annual Passholders" with "DVC owners" many of us are both.

Thanks for the reminder, I guess that now makes us double best customers.;) ::yes::

Excellent post and idea.

In fact, for the $1156 for a family of four, you could stay in a Contemperary tower room, get a fairy godmother for the kids, do V&A and E-night (assuming you already have your AP).:D

We are just missing it :( We are going to arrive may 30. Kids dont get out of school til May 28 and they are in high school and jr so they have finals they cant miss :( But if they were in elementary school I'd be taking them out early and going. Seems like we always miss these member events by a few days.
