Plans have been filed for DVC expansion at Caribbean Beach Resort

They really did people who were booked at WL a solid when they announced plans. Rebooked, extra-FP, vouchers. Hell, for the people who stayed they even gave out cool little pin sets (my best friend got me one when he stayed there last year). There's no way in hell I'd be staying at CBR without some form of either discount, rebate, compensation, or I'd want moved. Demand it.
My inner pin collector is jealous and intrigued

So I just got off the phone with Disney Reservations... my dates are April 20-27... I'm getting, this will not effect my stay. I told them I have no trust in what they are telling me. He told me I have no compensation on those dates. I told him, I want a confirmation email to that effect and my reservations to have this call noted. I was polite but firm and got no "have a magical day"

I have heard this starting from April 27th - May 5th. So I think you'll be okay but with all that is going on who knows.

We are staying in June and have received no such email from Disney (yet) regarding the upcoming renovations. I have been on the phone for majority of the day trying to relocate 3 CBR Preferred Rooms elsewhere on Disney property and am not getting very far - slim pickings for our modest budget. It would be "magical" to receive some sort of concession given the inconvenience :headache:

FYI, my understanding from getting off the phone with reservations, for those dates, if you are willing to stay at CBR you should be compensated $75/night per room... so at the bare minimum, get your room credit! Request it... (I was told starting May 1st, they have the authority to issue that discount)

I'd put this more on Bob Chapek (Head of Disney Parks) than Iger though. Either way, whoever (and however many) were in charge of this decision, it has zero logic and is just awful.
Chapek has only been at the helm for two years now. My guess is the plans for this were in development before he came in.

my trust is shot with all the conflicting reports, and I stated as much... if it weren't for the races, I would so cancel this trip

I am so glad we decided to stay off site for the race and then jump on a Disney Cruise on Monday instead. We ALMOST stayed at CBR. I feel for you.

I'd agree the plans for expansion are probably older, but the decision to shut everything down for 6-7 months instead of phased? Chapek would have had to know about that in the past two years and if saw an issue could have shut it down. I doubt even if this decision was made prior to his taking the job that he wouldn't have been able to change it, especially since all this is occurring on his watch.

The shut down seems pretty normal to me even though it may not to others. POFQ redid their food court last year and only had a grab go option as well as select times when their old table service restaurant opened. The big kicker here is there is no access to anything else like POFQ has boat to Disney Springs or walking distance to POR. I also don't know if the decision for the shut down was Chapek. Some of these decision don't go as high as head of parks or CEO, some only go to president of the resort which in this case would be Kalogridis.

Honestly if they have known this for years like suggested, that makes this WAY worse in my eyes. To me that means they willfully waited until the last minute so that they could maximize the number of people still paying the full price on a room at a hotel where they are eliminating a lot of things or get them to pay to upgrade. And now that I type that out, I'm pretty sure that is what happened (man I have such a jaded view of their business practices at this point).

I want to know how this compares to advanced notice of major projects like WL or the Poly.

It'd be interesting to an extent, but as you said earlier, way different situations. At CBR, you are losing all food options (replaced with who knows at this point). For the others, you lose one of many restaurants. And if I remember, French Quarter (a much smaller resort that could probably handle this type of thing easier) bussed people to Riverside to help handle that.

I look forward to hearing some further updates on this.

Good work Phil. I hope they can work it out for your friends.

Just as an update they did call my friend and apologized for not being more helpful when she called yesterday. They said that after speaking with me they have a better understanding of her situation and agreed to move the family to the Boardwalk for no extra charge
