WDW filed construction permits for a new "pavilion" at Epcot. Unfortunately, it appears this facility will be used for the purposes of yet another Frozen themed Meet & Greet rather than a new innovative attraction.

New Pavilion at Epcot

Ah! Hadn't seen that HopperFan had already posted a link.

News about WDW travels fast. :)

Yay! Can't wait to see Anna and Elsa there and ride the new ride! :-))

At least they're building something.

Makes me wonder, though, if they are willing and able to build something why did they have to close Maelstrom? They could have kept it open and built a new facility for the Frozen ride.

Hopefully I'm not striking anyone's nerve, but I think Maelstrom was at best a middling attraction for most. I am, probably naively, hopeful that something much cooler (no pun intended) is coming.

Won't be cooler though.. They'll likely just stuff in some animatronics and call it a day

So NOT A NEW PAVILION, then. Just an addition to an existing pavilion.

ITA that Maelstrom needed an update (possibly even down to the studs complete rebuild of something totally new) - I just think it should have been themed to Norway still - not Frozen.

If they're doing this, why the need to bring Frozen into Norway as much as they are? Or are they perhaps going to keep more of the Norway pavilion as Norway and less Arendelle? I remember reading they were going to take some of the Norway shop space for the M&G originally...so, maybe with this, that area (at least) gets saved?

Except the article says:

Judging by the illustration and aerial photographs included in the filing, it appears the new facility will have its own direct access to the World Showcase Lagoon area and will not connect directly with the existing Norway pavilion.

That doesn't sound like an addition to Norway, if it doesn't connect at all. :confused3

We'll see. It doesn't take 16+ months to "stuff in some animatronics". (And yes, I'm aware that 7DMT took quite a while.)

The docs say "at Norway Pavilion"

I'm so looking forward to when Star wars Land opens and Frozen is yesterday's news. It took a while for Stitch to fade gracefully into the background...but it eventually happened. Someday Frozen will be just another cog.

So it's not really a new pavilion???

It's a new building located in the Norway Pavilion. I guess Disney just uses Pavilion to describe a complete country's area.

Does the size of the new building look comparable to the size of TST or PFH meet and greet areas? I'm wondering if Olaf or Kristoff may also meet in this new building.
