I totally vote for a "Happily Ever After" sub board. I wander around the other areas of the DIS but never feel comfortable posting 'out there' lol. DF has been on the DIS just as long as me, and has much more posts than me, yet he doesn't know a single person by their first name. There is something special about the wedding boards. Heck, DF knows the names and back-stories of half the girls on here because they are MY friends! (ahem, Amanda, Lynn, Kendra..lol) We are a family of sorts here and we need some place to hang around afterwards. Otherwise we've spent 1,2 or 3+ years getting to know some of the people here, then *BAM* get the boot. I mean, I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm dying to know how Lynn & Tim's first year of marriage is....and I want to hear all about Amanda's little one. I don't want to be cut off from them..but I feel like going out onto the main DIS boards, well, there really isn't a place for us out there. We're simply 'Disney brides who all love each other and want to keep in touch'..there..that should be the new forum :) lol

Anyways...I just vote for a sub-forum and thats my two cents. :thumbsup2

yeah I totally agree with Meg...we all have built friendships with one another and we need to stick together where we originated from. I just don't get what harm it would cause to have a Happily Ever After sub board....meg you nailed it!

I really hope that there is a way this can happen.

You said that so much better than I did, but it's exactly what I meant. Thanks Meg!

BTW I'm so glad you're back, I would have hated for Amanda to send the State Militia out to look for you. :headache: We missed you! :rolleyes1

Yes I am all for the happily ever after. I love everyone on here and I would hate to post elsewhere!!!!! Plus I am so interested in what is happening to the girls that are married. Babies, houses, etc. I want to know!!! LOL

This board really is something different than I've ever experienced with a forum! I've only been here a month, and I feel like I know many of you! I can't wait to see everyone's updates! I too talk about everyone to DF...I mention something about Lynn and he says, "Is that the redhead?" :rotfl2: Everyone has been so welcoming...and I'd hate to lose that after the wedding, you know?! We all have a "bond" that the rest of the DIS can't really connect with...

Anyway...just getting a little sappy there...

I hope the mods/administrators can work something out!

I totally get what you mean... when I mention any of the girls, DF is like oh you're wedding twin (dawrobin  ) or when I mention hopefully meeting the south florida girls for lunch, he knows I'm talking about Christina and Amanda and he remembers Amanda is pregnant... :lmao: He doesn't really get how I feel so attached to the board, but he's happy I like it so much and can relate so easily to the girls...

I agree. That's a great idea!

Also, I mean, we're not going to get in trouble for things like the fact that I just posted a Mini-TR of our anniversary within my PJ, right? Or is stuff like that not allowed now, too?

I'm not a Disney Bride yet, but I love reading the PJs. When my time comes, I'd love to think that these amazing women would be there to share my joy and all. They are very important to this part of the boards, and I honestly don't think it'd be the same without them. I love reading the different stories and seeing all the creativity and how ebay-savvy they are lol. Why should that end after the wedding? The wedding is just one day in people's lives.....so much adds to the story after that.

As a future Disney Bride: I vote for the Happily Ever After sub-forum, that is if my vote counts lol.

No offense, but isn't that a bit much?? what harm is it in sharing your happily ever after, if it's kept in one place?? seems kinda extreme to have to go to a whole new section of the boards when we want to stay connected to the woman we've come to love on this forum. Idk, I feel kinda like, ok plan your wedding then get the heck out :( jmho though

:worship: Very well said! I havent been around all that much for the past few weeks because 'real life' has kind of gotten in the way... But when I do get some time at the computer, I love to read what other people are up to. OK, I can understand the need NOT to have the wedding board full of new threads 'We just signed on our first house' or 'We have a new furbaby' or whatever... but I don't see the harm in posting about these kind of things in your own, already well established PJ/TR etc, or having a subforum for this kind of thing. I don't use any other area of the forums other than the wedding board, and would quite frankly feel a bit lost trying to find updates about the happily ever afters of the people whose PJ/TR I have followed...

For example, and I'm sorry to single you out hunny... I love reading all about what is going on in Cam's world from her PJ, whether it be her running, or Howard graduating etc etc... but thats not strictly wedding/VR planning right?

Anyhow... Just my 2 cents

::yes::

I can already see that my opinion will not be a popular one...oh well...I've always been a bit of a rebel!;)

There are several other boards on the DIS that serve many purposes:

Trip reports: http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=18

Adults and Solos: http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=54

Families: http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=23

Community: http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33

Meets: http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=25

I understand that relationships and friendships have developed here (I have made several friends myself) and that you want to keep in touch as your lives move forward but that's what the other boards are for! Some have created private boards or you can start your own "Happily Ever After" thread on the CB and you can talk about anything you want (there are several of these types of threads already on the CB).

When I first came here, no one did planning journals or trip reports. I still kinda think planning journals belong on personal blogs but I understand that the majority of posters here appear to like them. Why do I feel the way I do? I think they are too exclusive...questions get lost in hundreds of posts and only the few who actually decide to read a journal have the opportunity to answer your questions. I've also seen some brides who maybe didn't get enough answers on a journal then go and post the same question on the board...I think it helps many more brides to have the questions asked on the open board rather than in a long thread.

There are many past brides who simply don't have time to wade through hundreds of posts to see if they have some experience to share...so they don't post and their potentially invaluable input is missed.

Trip reports have a board of their own, but again, I can understand why there is a desire to have them here.

This board is supposed to be for all brides planning a Disney wedding and for past brides to share their experience. I think all the planning journals and trip reports can be intimidating to those who are new to the DIS or message boards in general. They may not feel comfortable posting because of how "cliquey" the board can feel (and please don't take that the wrong way, I have my own "clique threads" I post on). And it seems like their "newbie" questions get easily lost among all the long journals and reports.

I also see the need to keep this board on topic. I've seen other boards like this one that are much more heavily moderated and any thread that gets slightly off topic is closed without warning. Our mods are a lot more flexible.

Creating a sub board, IMO, is unrealistic since the "topic" of that board is already covered on the other boards above. It simply doesn't make sense to have two Trip Reports boards, or two Community boards. But, I understand that's an unpopular opinion.

As I said, I understand you have made friends here...posting on the boards intended for Trip Reports, Families, Adults, Community, or Meets may very well open you up to meeting many new friends. There is a whole big world out there...don't restrict yourselves to only one small corner of it!

But don't forget how important you are to this board either!;)

Your opinion is appreciated as always... I totally get what you're saying. I differ in opinion, but that's what's so great about this board. At the end of the day we appreciate each other's differences.

I will add though that I disagree with this quote... I never felt uncomfortable posting as a newbie. I just put a general post out there that I was new and then asked my question. The outpouring of welcomes and questions about my wedding was overwhelming and I loved it. I've now hopefully extended the same welcome to other newbies!

I totally agree with this. ::yes:: I posted in other areas and never received the sort of overwhelming response I got here. I was so impressed at how helpful everyone was. Additionally...I have to admit that the PJ's were also unbelievably helpful. Before I started planning, I was absolutely lost and had no clue where to begin. When I stumbled upon PJ's, I thought "THIS is SOOO cool!" It was a huge relief to read through everyone's planning and struggles..and also gave me ideas I would never be creative enough to think of myself!

I totally understand the importance of having individual threads for these questions---but it is SO valuable to have the "big picture" of everything as well.

This is getting slightly off topic...but just wanted to give my perspective as a newbie.

hiwaygal,

I can see where you are coming from, but I completely disagree about these boards being "clique-y". I am not currently planning a Disney wedding, we aren't even engaged yet, but I am an active participant in these boards and have never once felt like I don't belong here. I am able to answer as many questions as anyone else and I feel comfortable asking questions here.

There are some people who are closer to each other here, but I have to admit that my first DIS meet did not start with the "DISmeets" board or any of the other boards on this website. It came from a friend that I made on the wedding boards.

I have said it before and I truly believe that having the PJ and TR sub boards would be great for this. They have Pre-TR and Completed TR sub boards over on the official trip reports board. I think they would be very useful here! And if you think that these boards can be clique-y, you should spend more time on the other boards. There was even a rash of banning a while ago, because some of the cliques were bullying other TRs.

JMO!

I knew using the "clique" word would have the negative connotation that I didn't not intend.;) I really didn't mean it in a bad way...

Having said that, as someone who is frequently "on the outside looking in" on most of the planning and reports threads (and seeing things that have happened on this board and others), there is an air of exclusivity among the groups here. I choose to be where I am, but I imagine there are some who want to join in but don't know how or feel as if they are crashing a party. Unfortunately, it's the nature of a community sometimes.

Yes, so why do we need duplicates of those boards? They already exist for everyones use. In addition, on those boards when the threads go off topic or the trip report is done the threads are closed which helps to keep the DIS running smoothly (long threads eat up a lot of bandwidth). Our mods have not done that...yet.

It seems there is a reluctance to post there because of a lack of familiarity...folks don't feel comfortable posting on those boards. You (not specific you, general you) aren't comfortable there but can't understand how some newbies would feel the same here?

It is the nature of a group to feel they are welcoming and encouraging but others aren't. It's not intentional but it can be the perception.

I'm sorry, but I really have no clue what you're talking about. :confused3 If anyone who is a newbie and reading this... we welcome you with open arms... always!

I don't think people are saying they're uncomfortable posting elsewhere just to say it... I think we've gone out there to ask simple questions and have been attacked for being on the wedding board... I mean, that's not random, that's a fact. I don't blame people for wanting to stick around here... it's a bit more warm and a smaller community.

Hiwayhal,
i get what your saying. But I think we have all made it pretty clear as to why we dont want to venture to those other parts of the boards.. cliquey or not or whatever, we've all become close on here. We don't have that relationship with people on the other boards that we do here. Like i said, I just dont see the harm of posting and keeping everything in one pj or one big tr.. or like I suggested earlier perhaps a sub forum on here called happily ever after or disbrides after the big day.. personally I come on here for wedding stuff, and i go to other parts of the boards for something completely different. I'd like to keep it that way.. idk, i could and prolly will write more, but i'm watching 4 kiddies right now and they wanna play the wii lol:rotfl2:

:offtopic: Ohhh, I did yoga on my wii fit this morning... ohmmmm..... I love that thing! :rotfl:

ugh.. they freak out so i would play then they decided they wanna play eachother.. totally got dissed! how is the wii fit?? do you really feel a work out?? maybe my wii will make me thin for this septs disney trip!!!! we just playyed mario kart.. sooo fun, but man thank god i dont drive like that in real life!!:lmao:

I love the Wii fit! I just got it, so I've only done yoga. Can't wait to try out the other more physical things... I'll keep you updated, but I'll PM... I don't want this to be non-wedding related, but I am trying to lose weight for my wedding, does that count? ;)
