Plan Ahead with Lightning Lane Entry at Walt Disney World Starting July 24

That does make sense.

But I still need to figure out what I’m going to do at 6 AM (central, where I am) on July 24. Having zero data to go off of stresses me out.
I do really feel for you and people similarly situated to you. My trip isn't until Oct so I will get to see things play out and read the strategies people come up with before I go. That said, I feel like whenever a new system comes out, in the early days it benefits the savvy travelers because so many people just don't know what's going on and aren't trying to maximize it yet.

Oh - this makes you one of the "Test Cases" I was referring to.

Separate from the "Fence Testers", of which I suppose I'm one. But I guess you can be both.

I wish you the best of luck - I agree without data and real world reports it is pretty stressful. We're going the last week of August, so I'll have about three weeks worth of feedback in hand to help me plan my picks. Which, unless they clarify Canadians can book from home, will be made from a mall parking lot in Buffalo.

Yep - that's another thing in your (our) favor. DISers are competing with civilians.

Many of the attractions in the tier 1 lists currently have G+ availability well into the morning and past noon on most days. Plus some of the true Tier 1 rides are locked behind ILL/VQ anyway. If your first pre booked LL is pretty early, no reason to think there won’t be some availability after you use it. Now if you’re hoping to book slinky dog at 1030 or something probably not. :)

I agree with others there will be additional drops throughout the day as well. With a free system they could get away with people maybe only getting 1 Tier 1 in a day. With a paid system the blowback would be huge and they know that.
But, if they hold back LLs to drop during the day, that means fewer people getting their most-desired LL when pre-booking, That is going to cause blowback too. And remember that you get to see what your three available selections will be before you have to choose to buy. Making fewer LLs of the top ride available to pre-book may mean lost sales from those who won't buy it unless they can use it for their favorite. Holding LLs back until day-of only benefits those who can't, or don't know to, pre-book at the expense of those who do pre-book. Holding LLs back to drop during the day will most benefit those who are going to be "refreshing" their phones during the day.

EDIT: I'm not saying they won't do it. I'm saying it's a zero sum game. For everyone who benefits from it, someone else loses.

Sorry, way too much thinking and making this so much more complicated just to "game" the system. Just go and enjoy your vacation as much as possible. I am not say not to use LL but its exhausting trying to figure out all the ways to beat the system.

Well, for starters, not everyone finds things equally exhausting. Some people are energized when presented with a new challenge like this. It can be a fun problem to solve, instead of an exhausting experience.

Also, I would personally rather commit the energy to learning the ropes and planning in advance so that, when I am actually on my vacation, I can go and enjoy it that much more. Being prepared means I can do more top rides with less effort and shorter lines on the trip because I put the time in beforehand. It's not like my life is getting any better when I mindlessly scroll videos in the evening; better to be reading blogs about the ins-and-outs of the new system, once people actually have a chance to play with it.

Perhaps most importantly, I'm going to be doing very little of the work. There are tons of incredibly smart people on the internet that are going to play this out so many different ways and come back to us with the results. I certainly didn't spend months of my life trying to track and calculate drop times during the FP+ era, but I did make a note on my phone of what they were so that I could score day of FoP. Work smarter, not harder.

Our trip is July 21 to July 28 - if this new system starts July 24, when would I be booking? I am staying on disney property. Would it be July 17?

Do you all feel that more people will be buying into the system then they were with Genie+ just because there’s advanced selections? I have a feeling no. From everything I have read over the last several years since the debut of Genie, most people have indicated they are not buying it because they feel they’ve already spent enough on a Disney vacation. Not because they couldn’t book attractions in advance. FP+ was free so a lot of people used it. This system is still gonna cost money, if not more. I also feel because of this that there will be plenty of tier one attractions available the day you were in the parks. It shouldn’t be any different than it is now.

So I was just thinking this..
As a work around could international guests transfer reservations over to a TA in the states to book for them?
I get the impression, at least right now, that only someone logged into that person's MDE account in the states can make those selections. Typically, even with a TA, you aren't giving them your password to log in directly.

I think, until Disney gets the IT portion of this right, international guests need to make friends with someone in the continently US that they trust with the Disney password and selections if they want the early booking.

I vote no. Especially if the price point is as severe as G+. Outside of the moment it’s a noticeably harder to drop that extra dough.

To your second point, it is incorrect. Earnings calls have indicated somewhere around over half of guests purchase some aspect of G+/ILL on their trip. That being said I still would like to know how much was planned vs “the last couple days have been crap, I’m DONE with lines!” purchasing.

Admittedly not caught up on the entire thread - why can't folks in other countries book their 3 Lightening Lane Multi Pass selections ahead of time - why is it only applicable to Americans?
App isn’t supposed to work outside the US. Can only book the new LLMP on the app.

The tldr is that Disney has worded the policy as international guests must be on american soil to book their selections. Some cast members interpreted this as north america, some said we’re out of luck, some suggested driving to the closest state 7 days before our trips.

What happens when we use up the 3 selections and we have a park hopper..can we add more selections at the new park?
According to Disney's page, once you tap into your first Lightening Lane (or the window passes) you can book another selection at a new park...
Unlock More Magic
On the day of your park visit, once you redeem a Lightning Lane Multi Pass selection (or once the arrival window has passed), you can use the My Disney Experience app to check availability for another Lightning Lane Multi Pass experience—and add to your plans.

You can make one at a time until regular park closing (subject to availability). If your park admission includes Park Hopper benefits, you can even choose a Lightning Lane Multi Pass experience in a different theme park.

Some people who wouldn't buy Genie+ will now buy LLMP. Others who did buy Genie+ won't buy LLMP. Some wouldn't/won't buy either. Others would/will buy both. I think it'll balance out. I strongly suspect Disney would not be doing this change if they thought it would hurt sales. But they may be wrong if they are assuming it will significantly boost sales. If I had to pick a side, I'd say it will increase sales but not by much.

Yes and no. There wont be a massive uptick but then again my reason for not purchasing G+ on my last trip is that I don't get up at 7am on my holiday and especially not when a US Corp tells me to do so.
