Anyone else here try it? Opinions? DH and I tried it tonight and neither of us were impressed. By the looks of it on TV they're supposed to fill it with ingredients, ours wasn't that way. We ordered it with ham, pepperoni and mushrooms and a few pieces of each were baked into the cheese but nothing under the cheese like it was supposed to be. They were very stingy with the ingredients, and the crust didn't taste good at all. We were very disappointed. :(

Maybe they make it different up here, but when we had it last week we liked it. I will admit that it wasn't FULL of stuff, but it was pretty good, and we really liked the crust. I guess that is what makes the world go around--everyone likes something different.;)

Well, I gotta say I like the Pizza Hut Chicago-style. Is it as good as "real" Chicago pizza, no way! But for this Chicago native, now living in the Atlanta area, it's by far the closest thing around.

BTW, there is not supposed to be anything under the cheese. That's the way you make Chicago-style deep dish -- the cheese is layered right on the crust and the rest of the stuff (including sauce or tomatoes) is put on top of the cheese. Parmesan is sprinkled on top of the rest, and a lot of people like to add more Parmesan when eating it.

Sorry you didn't like it -- maybe you need to take a trip to Chicago and eat at the real Pizzeria Uno (not the chain ones that are cropping up all over the place) -- you'll never want any other kind!

;)

Disneyaholic: I could have sworn the TV commercial makes it look like they "fill the crust up" with all of the ingredients, then put the cheese on top, then the marinara sauce on top....
I did have real Chicago style pizza once, when I was in Chicago staying on the Magnificent Mile, I don't remember the name of the place but my daughter was 8 years old at the time and she's 24 now, so it's been awhile :) but I didn't like it because we ordered it with sausage and it had a half-inch thick piece of sausage that covered the entire pizza!!!! It was greasy and too much, I prefer pieces of sausage (with other things) rather than a whole layer of it.....yuck!!!

Disneyholic is correct in that a "true" Chicago deep dish has the cheese on the bottom. And Pizzeria Uno has one of the better ones available. However, Uno's chains are not exactly the same. In fact, Uno's modifies their menus and their pizza depending on the region they are in.

That being said, I have never liked Pizza Hut's pizza. I will eat it if we end up there, but I place it in the same category as Domino's and other cheap pizza parlors. I have also found, as I travel around the country on business and vacation, that many, many places that claim to server Chicago style pizza have no business trying to pass their junk off as Chicago style. Generally, one, maybe two, slices of a Chicago deep dish is sufficient to fill most people up.

Lou Malnati's does this. Here's a link to their web site...

Lou Malnati's Pizza

Well I always thought Dominos was "real" pizza until I ate pizza in Chicago!! LOL! They have the most phenomenal pizza in existence! Like Crissup said, one piece will fill me up! Those pizzas are sooo heavy with fillings it is unbelievable. Chicago - definitely worth it to visit there for a pizza! ;) :teeth:

A number of the Chicago pizza houses, Uno's/Due's, Lou Malnati's, Gin's East add their sausage as a layer, as you said, Chattyaholic. For me, it also is too much meat and too greasy. You can order it crumbled, in a more traditional way, if you ask. Gino's will ask you which way you prefer. And Chicago pizza is great!!!!!

Excuse me, but Chicago pizza is the best in the world. As a New Yorker, I have to say most NYers dont' know their pizza (could get me killed if I say that out loud). :)

If you guys have tried Uno, or Gino Pizza, you never wanna go back. Ymmm.

It is physically impossible to obtain Chicago style pizza outside of the Chicagoland area!! :) Don't be fooled by impersonators and pretty pictures on the tv. It's all lies and propaganda!!!:) ;) :)

Too true! I love Unos/Dues pizza. I grew up on the stuff :). The pizza in Chicago is really the best. We have an Uno's chain here in Madison. It's not as good, but it's still better than the usual 'za.

I happen to like the thin crust and the hand tossed pizza at Pizza Hut. The Pizza Hut "Chicago Pizza" is absolute crap! Yuck, yuck, yuck. Our local Pizza Hut has a lunch buffet that includes the "Chicago" style and I stay away from it :).

Great oogley moogley! The spelling police are hitting us with math now.;)

I haven't tried it either. On the commercial it doesn't look too good. Looks like they just dump sauce on top of stuff after it's cooked or something. I don't care too much for Pizza Hut pizza anyway. The crust is always too oily on the bottom and too dry tasting everywhere else.

I work for Pizza Hut and we put a layer of cheese then toppings then a little more cheese after it is cooked we put the sauce on top and serve it. In the rest. we put grated cheese on top if you want it. When it is delived you don't get the greated cheese on top. We do say it is filled not topped because we put the toppings in it not on top like the other pizzas.

They may have a Giordano's in Orlando but I assure you it probably doesn't taste the same.
We tried Uno's while in Las Vegas and it was the worst pizza. We thought that we would be safe eating there considering it's a Chicago based pizzeria. But it was not to be. It was more California style pizza than Chicago. Ucky, huge chunks of tomato and tons of veggies. And the 'Italian' sausage tasted more like a breakfast sausage. The Italian sausage makes or breaks the whole thing.
Hence........you CANNOT find a Chicago style pizza outside of Chicago!!:)

I made a huge mistake, the Sunday I returned from Chicago, I let my DH talk me into getting this pizza... mind you I had had Gino's only two days before. It was terrible in comparison. The cheese is just too salty, the sauce is just not "cooked" enough (as in the tomatos are too hard and not simmered enough), and the crust wasn't the best. It just doesn't even come close to being good. I've had Uno's here in Columbus before and that wasn't even as good as what I had in Chicago. The bad thing is that my DH loves this pizza and wants it all the time. Poor guy may never get to eat it again unless he isn't around me :)
