Pixar's UP

We just saw it today and although it was good, it had a lot of sad storylines behind it. Very sad. I think the kids don't really get the sadness but for adults, its there. Anyway, I have a question. On Disney channel with all the previews I kepts seeing parts where Carl says "Do you have your run away in terror badge? Time to earn it!" Did I miss that part in the movie? I kept expecting it to be there and it wasn't as far as I'm aware. Any ideas?

I just got home from this movie and LOVED it. My kids (10 & 6) loved it too, although my son (6) did get scared in parts. I literally SOBBED during parts of it, mostly because I have an aging father who lost the love of his life too soon and struggles every day with what COULD have been. For Pixar to capture those emotions so beautifully on screen was tremendous. Here I go, I'm crying again......
:guilty:

I am always amazed at how much Pixar can say without saying a single word.

Blows my mind.

My dd(10) and I just got back a little while ago. We cried, we laughed, we cried again... absolutely marvelous.

The storyline is an important one - about what's important and what's not.

Reminded me of that Audrey Hepburn saying..."the best things we can hold onto in life is each other" and that other saying...don't know who said it, "the most important things in life aren't things."

Feeling philosophical tonight...

Disney Channel ran these little teasers they called "Upisodes" (I think you can still see them on the official Disney/Up website): I know there was the "run away in terror badge" one, a "first aid" one where Russell keeps getting tangled up in band-aids, and a "snipe trap" one where he is using his chocolate bar to bait a trap for the "snipe." Someone elsewhere said these were never in the film, they were just little bonus teasers to set up the characters and promote the movie (like the famous "Incredibles" trailer where Mr. I can't fasten the belt on his super suit - I remember people being surprised that wasn't in the movie).

I haven't seen it, but for teaser trailers, Pixar has always created scenes that were not in the movie. That is sort of a trademark for them.

We saw it today. It was fantastic! The guy behind me was there with his daughter nd he was sobbing like a lil' girl through some parts. I thought the film might be a bit much in parts for some kids or the really sensitive, but we really liked it. Kevin and Doug were hilarious!

One bummer...we saw the 3-D film but had no short subject attached to the beginning! GYPP!!

I'm thinking of taking the kids tonite to see the movie.. I have 3 choices??!
Regular?...2D or 3D? Do they provide those 3D glasses or do we buy them? Sorry.. never seen any 3D movies before at a theatre.

I know I'm terribly late but,at my theater, you kind of have to pay for the glasses. Its an extra $2 for all 3-D movies becasuse we have to take time to clean and repair them all. And with a sold out theather we probably end up able to buy 10 pairs or so that will be stolen eventually. Those little 3d glasses are expensive.

This movie has something for everyone, extremely balanced. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, my wife loved it as well. The theater was packed with children who were all very entertained. I do believe this is my favorite PIXAR film just based on the story and message alone. So many great lines, I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone. FYI we saw the non 3D by choice, visually stunning.

The kids and I saw it today in 3D. Both kids ages 6 and 9 loved it.

I loved it!!! Like someone else said, I think only Toy Story is above it with Pixar movies. There was tons of families, but I also saw teenagers, the couple next to me was older with no kids, it really seemed to reach across the ages.

I did get a little teary eyed at the beginning, but it was amazing how Pixar showed the love between these two people with no words spoken!!!!

We also saw a "preview" of Toy Story 3. It wasn't really a preview, just all of the characters making a notice about the movie, I was so excited!:cool1:

I went with a group of 10 (ages ranging from 3 yo all the way up through late 50's). Everyone loved it. Great story, good laughs and well developed characters.

All four kids in our group were into the movie the entire time and never got bored. My 8yo however full on sobbed at the beginning montage. It really got to her, but she still loved the movie. Most of the adults teared up too.

We saw the movie last night, the 3D version and I loved it. I also cried during the montage at the beginning and also again later in the movie (I think the music gets me), but I also laughed and laughed a lot. There was 1 scene were I did not cry, but my rough & tough cream puff ds, who's 8, cried. I kept telling him it would be ok and that he had to quiet down because there were other people around us. He did do a ton of laughing too though.

We loved Kevin and Dug!!!!

I'm going to try to post this in a light-colored spoiler text because I don't want to spoil, but I can't help guessing this was the scene where Kevin gets hurt! The part where Russell applies the bandage, and Kevin is trying to get up and can't. I wasn't expecting that, and, though I didn't cry, I was

I got teary at the montage, of course, and Carl finding the note from Ellie. I think those are the two big weepy moments.

I thought they did a marvelous job of mixing the laughs and tears and thrills through the whole thing, mostly because they got us so involved with the characters.

I have two girls who are very sensitive re: death, loss of loved ones (due to too many close losses in a short amount of time). Will this movie be too much for them? From the previews it looks funny but so many people are posting about being teary to outright sobbing that I think maybe we should skip it or wait for the DVD.

Thanks!

Perhaps. It's all really in the context of a very sweet story but there is no mistaking that there is loss. There are some very funny moments to offset the sadness, but there's more sadness in this movie than most Disney/Pixar films.

I remember thinking that the opening scene of "Finding Nemo" was too intense for young children. If they were ok with that scene (Nemo losing his mother and all those siblings) they *might* be ok with this one.

Saw it friday night, but not in 3D. So sad, saddest Disney movie ever! I cried 3 or 4 times. I didn't really it. That's hard for me to say. Kevin's squaking was really loud too! kind of scared me at times! haha The storyline was good, but I just couldn't get past the sadness I guess. I'm super excited for Princess and the Frog, that to me is Disney getting back to its roots and I hope it is as good as it looks in the preview!!!

Thanks. We actually watched Nemo on DVD first and always skipped the first scene. When my kids saw it at someone else's house they said "How come we never saw that before?" :rolleyes1 I think maybe we'll wait for the DVD.

My older DD's class went on a field trip to see Disney's Earth. She didn't want to go because of the predator/prey chase scenes.

Thanks again.

I went to see the movie yesterday with my granddaughters 9 & 11, my daughter and my DH. Everybody loved it.

That is exactly the scene that he got upset, but he recovered fairly quickly with laughing from another scene, although I don't remember which one that was, but he did laugh after the one you described.

Led the box office with $ 68.2 million this weekend!!!

Third highest Disney-Pixar opening, behind The Incredibles and Finding Nemo.

Whoo Hoo!!:cool1: :thumbsup2
