This will be our first flight out of the PIT airport (we usually fly out of BUF). This is probably a stupid question, but do they have curbside luggage counters? And if they do, does AirTran have one?

Is the airport and parking pretty easy to navigate?

There is curbside but not for all airlines. USAir does not. SW, United, Delta does. I don't think there is one for AirTran but not 100% positive. The lines inside are usually short.

Here's a tip. Drop everyone and all the luggage off at passenger departure then park the car and take the shuttle bus back. PIT lets passenger cars drop off on the top level (3) where the check-in counters and curbside are. If you ride the parking shuttle, it drops you off at luggage pickup on the bottom level and you have to take everyone and all luggage up 2 levels to check-in not to mention having to load all your stuff on and off the bus.

Lines and security are usually short. We check our bags, go through security and ride the train to the gates in about 15-20 minutes.

Thank you.

I am planning on taking 79 south to 80 west to 376 south to get to the airport. Is this the better route from the north? Or would I be better to take 79 into Pittsburgh and then back up to the airport?

The airport is very easy to navigate. When it was first built it was considered one of the top three airports in the world for the way it "moved" people and luggage through the airport. A TV show at the time called it a people moving machine.

Here is the website for the airport. http://www.flypittsburgh.com

If you look at the terminal map you can see that from ticketing everything is in a straight line until you get to the Airside building and hit a junction that splits off like a X to the gates.

Thank you.

I live in the area, this was asked before from someone coming from your area and yes picking up 376 south from 80 is probably quicker.

They are doing some sort of construction on the weekends in the area right after you would exit 79 heading to the airport. Also 376 from 79 is a major route out of the city so it should be avoided during the evening rush.

give yourself lots of time if using AT out of PIT:mad:

we flew them on 6/26, 6:45 amish flight on a Saturday. I figured we could arrive 2 hours early & breeze thru...not! Even though I had upgraded to business class & was able to use the short line to checkin, the zealous reps were using a measuring tape to check what seemed to be every piece of luggage that looked to be near oversize:headache:

several people were really complaining as they missed their fights, did get rebooked no extra cost.

when it was my turn, the same bag that flew 2 other trips on AT magically grew:rolleyes1despite it being lightly packed as i had 2 'free' checked bags pp allowance. I insisted they note my account as i knew the bag was less than 61 inches, forked over $49 & then hustled to our gate, where they had already started to board:eek:

as bonus points, my garment bag had the side ripped off it when i collected it from the luggage carousel in FLL & my cruise clothing was a bit beat. They gave me a new piece of luggage on the spot (and instructions to call AT to comlain)...quite curious, they had a whole room full of any size suitcase u could imagine.

i indeed called AT & told them my story, notice the quickie trip @ the end of the month, booked @ heavy discount upon my return.:thumbsup2

good luck OP
