Do they do anything in the MDR for pirate night or is it just the party at 9:45 pm???? Not sure if we want to miss the MDR for Palo

How long is your cruise? If 3-nights, then no, it's the regular menu. I believe that anything 4 or longer gets the Pirate Night menu.

It depends on the ship. On the Fantasy & Dream there is no MDR entertainment other than the music from POC and in AP the pirate sketches on the screnes. On the classics there is a limbo line that goes around the MDR towards the end of dinner & napkin waving. The servers dress up as pirates on cruises 4+ nights.

Also, on the new ships there is a Mickey & pals deck party at 7:45 and the more POC deck party starts at 9:45. The classics only have the late party.

We are taking our first DCL cruise next month and I've been wondering if they did something for the younger kids... the Pirate night sounds like a lot of fun, but I was surprised to see the deck party starts at 9:45. That seems late for kids. What is the "Mickey and Pals" deck party? Is it pirate-themed too?

Yes, it is considered "less scary" for the younger kids so they don't have to stay up until 9:45. The fireworks are around 10:15 at the later deck party. That one has Jack Sparrow, pirates, skeleton & ghost dancers.

We have late seating. Will we have time to enjoy some of the Pirate Mickey party before we have to head down for dinner? I was kind of surprised they don't start the Mickey party until 7:45. If they did it a little earlier, it seems that would be more fair for both dinner seatings. But I guess they want to give first seating passengers a full 2 hours to enjoy their meal. I'm bummed that we might only get to see a little bit of the beginning before rushing off to dinner :(. We won't want to skip the MDR that night and we will get to see the later pirate 'show' after dinner. But both 'parties' sound fun ;)

Early seating really isn't over until 7:45 so that is a bit of a rush for those guests to get up to the party. They then have to rush downstairs to the movie on the 7-night cruise or the show on the 3-night. Of course then everyone has to head up to the 9:45 party. It's a busy night, which is why we skip the movie. ;) If I had second seating I would go to the party, which is about 15-20 minutes of singing by the characters, then head to dinner when it is over. You won't be the last one in the MDR that night. There is usually a line to get in anyway. Look over the menu before you go so you have an idea what you want to order to help make up time if you are a little late.

I didn't realize first seating would be going to a movie after the deck party. Thanks for that info. So the deck party is mostly going to be 7:45-8:00 ish anyways so the first seating can get to the movie and the second seating can get to dinner. Not to say that they will be finished by the time we leave, but it sounds like the main part of it will be able to be enjoyed by both seatings. Sounds perfect ;)

Yes, that is what has been on the schedule for the longer cruises. The 3-night has a show to see. One of the recent 7-night cruises had an entertainer instead of a movie, but we don't know if this is a permanent change yet.

Hi- we've had late seating twice now and didn't have a problem watching the whole show before dinner. You don't have to be in the dining room exactly at 8:15, it's actually better to go a couple minutes late so there isn't a huge line.

Nothing special in the MDR on Pirate Night. However, after reading numerous bad reviews about the food in the MDR, we made a Palo reservation. We cancelled the day before, and the menu that night actually ended up being one of my family's favorites. We weren't disappointed in the MDR even though there was not special entertainment.

great advice. We will have the late seating when we go and this being our first cruise I want my boys to get to take in everything. so glad for the infomation.
