Pins on the Plane

I have a silly question! :confused3 I don't fly very often, but know that there are a lot of restrictions as to what can be taken on the plane. My kids want to wear their lanyards with pins on the plane to Disney. Will they be able to, or should I put them in the checked luggage?

Thanks!

Collectible Pins, particularly Disney's, have been stolen in checked luggage on many occasions. Bring them on board with you. The airlines do allow pins.

For fun: They also allow: Scissors - metal with pointed tips and blades shorter than four inches; common lighters with fuel (not allowed in checked baggage); Non-flammable liquid, gel, or aerosol paint and knitting needles... as you can see, it's all stuff we all need to survive :lmao: However they do not allow jars of Jam/Jelly, bottled water or cups of Joe (unless purchased after checkpoint) and containers over 3oz of gels or lotions such as aloe (although you might be able to argue that it's medically necessary) :3dglasses We live in a crazy world.

I've taken them in my carry-on bag every time...have them easily accessible as you may be asked to remove them from the bag after it goes through the scanning machine, in case they can't identify what they are.

I'd put them in your carryon instead of having the kids wear them.

They'd have to take them off to go thru the scanners and it would be just one more thing you'd have to make sure you grab after going thru the scanners.

Don't put them in your checked luggage. The odds of them getting stolen are high.

Sadly enough this is too true for MCO. What gets me is that the airport doesn't care enough to discover/dismiss the employees who are doing this. They couldn't be that hard to catch.... they're the ones manning the scanners!

I have always packed my pin bags along with my pin lanyard in my carryon bag and each time I have had no problems taking them onto the plane. Sometimes when going through security they would be looked at and sometimes they were not looked at, so it's a 50/50 chance of that happening or not happening.

I fly in and out of JFK so I was really worried about this and spent about an hour calling airlines the day of my return flight.

You can take them as carry on. They said as long as they have backs on them and everything they are fine. They consider them jewelry like earings which you can carry on.

BUT This took several people at the airport/airline to verify because the first 2 said absolutely they MUST be checked do to safety restrictions at JFK. JFK said if there is an issue call this number and they gave me a person to contact that would say it was okay.

We always bring our pins in our carry on bags, never pack anything of value in your checked bags !

I put them in a ziplock inside the carryon bag and then if the kids want to wear them they do so after we clear security.

We fly several times a year with pins, not just to Disney but all over the country but for skating competitions where pin trading is also common (and fun!) and have never been asked about the pins.
