When my family goes to to WDW in Feb. of course I want to bring my pins. I just have one question, can I put them in my carry-on? We are not checking bags.

I've flown many times to WDW with pins/lanyards/notebooks in carry-on. It's never been a problem and I was never asked about them.

I have not had a problem with my pin bag, but on my return flight from WDW, they did search my backpack because there was concentrated metal.......basically the little bags and bags of pins I bought!!!!!!
The only thing I will do different is to remove my pinbag and my bags of pins and put them on the belt that way......then I can repack....it was kind of icky to have him going through my backpack (when I go to WDW that is essentially my purse as well) since the way it was packed, there were personal things in there as well! Plus I kind of felt everyone was looking at me!

As for your question about carry on vs checked bags. I have always had my pins on my person. I don't like leaving them out of my sight (they may end on vacation without me!), plus if there is going to be any bag searching going on, I want to be there to watch.

I do the same as Lynnie...I put my pinbag through security seperately. They look through it almost every time which is fine with me as long as they continue to look for the bad guys they can go through my bag as many times as they want!

With the new regulations regarding checked luggage (ie..no locks as they retain the right to search your suitcase) I wouldn't put pins or anything of value in my suitcase. I have heard stories (that I can't verify) of pins being stolen from luggage...why take the risk...

Love your signature BTW...I drive my kids crazy with that quote...

Paging Mr. Morrow, Mr. Tom Morrow. Your party from Saturn has arrived. Please give them a ring! LOL!!!
:D

I flew just the 10th and the 18th with 150 - 200 pins in a carry-on. I wasn't going to trust checked baggage right now.
I had no problems at all. It was the same as I have flown in the past with pins in carry on.
The screener at MCO did ask me if I cashed in my savings account. ;) I should have said -- What savings? Your looking at it! :jester:

Don't feel bad, Lynnie! I had to be personally searched over Thanksgiving when we flew home. How was I supposed to know that Rockport shoes have a piece of metal in them :)?! Live & learn! I will say the TSA agent was very good about telling me exactly what would happen.

LOL - I work with a Tom Morrow! Too funny, didn't remember that quote until I saw your post!

When JudySue and I travel her pin case (a Samsonite rolling hard-side suitcase) weighs about 35 pounds and has about 400 - 600 pins in it.

We always warn the screeners in advance that the bag contents will look very unusual. Then we ask that the examination take place in private, which they are always willing to do.

We have had three trips through Washington/Dulles where the same TSA supervisor has been on duty each time. He has gotten to know us; he and JudySue discuss pins and collecting while one of his staff goes through the case.

In all instances we have asked that they allow me to repack the case, as I know what can go where without damage.

We have had much better reactions at all airports with TSA in place than with contract people.

One important thing is that just about everything, except the pin books themselves, are in clear plastic bags. If you have ever seen JudySue's pin books, the pages are also clear plastic -- this makes inspection go much easier.

The only difficult thing is stopping JudySue from taking stuff out of the case herself; they want to do the examination unhampered.
