Id like to buy something as close as possible to what they serve at Narcoosees :cutie:

Yes! The little container I have (that I bought from Ralph's supermarket) has the label from the first site you listed. SaltWorks, Inc (www.seasalt.com) a.k.a. Artisan Salt Co.

Another good salt is Hiwa Kai Black Lava salt.

Those prices are absolutely RIDICULOUS though. Don't pay that much! The container I have is 4oz and has a price tag of $1.80. I have had this container for over a year and it's still mostly full. A little of this salt goes a long way. I have the size "small" crystals.

Look for it locally in supermarkets near you. I found it in the deli section near the fancy cheeses.

If you can't find it locally, at least buy it in bulk from Amazon or something. I'll even buy it for you and mail it so you don't have to pay that much, LOL!

That is a fantastic price!!!

This is a good price. Just don't buy the little jar...way overpriced. This is a lifetime of Alaea salt! It never goes bad and as long as you store it airtight, it will last forever.

In case the link doesn't work, it's the Bulk 5lb bag of Small Alaea Salt crystals. Works out to $0.34 per ounce, which is cheaper than what I pay at the supermarket!

Wow thanks for all the great information!

I wasn't sure I was going to get any replies to a "fancy salt" inquiry, so i'm way impressed with all the info!:D

Does anyone know if the butter is homemade?

I highly doubt the butter is homemade. They use way too much butter to justify making it fresh. They might make it at V&A's...maybe.

Try Kerrygold unsalted butter with the Alaea salt sprinkled on top. That's what I do at home with fresh bread and it tastes amazing.

I doubt it but it could be an interesting home project.

Were I choosing a butter for this purpose I'd opt for one with a high butter fat content like Plugra or President in the higher price corner of the dairy case and good old unsalted/sweet Land o' Lakes with the foil wrapping for a similar suitability and mouth feel at a much lower cost.
HTH!

Thanks! Quick question, which grain size of the Alaea salt is closest to the one in the picture / that Disney uses - fine or small do you think?

I've never used this brand of Hawaiian salt but would guess solely from the pictures that fine comes closest to the size used on butter. Of course you could always buy the small and mechanically grind it to the size or coarse you prefer.

I used Costco sea salt in a batch of cookies one time, and they came out way too salty. I’ve read since then that the salt measurement in most recipes is based on regular table salt so I’ve stuck to iodized Morton’s for baking ever since. I use it in my pasta water too.
That's interesting. I was visiting my aunt in AZ and made cornbread one day. She only had the table salt vs the kosher and it was much saltier. I don't use sea salt in recipes unless specifically called for.
