Sorry I tried to search, but to no avail. At what age did your kids start trading pins?
TIA

My 8 year old started trading this past summer...she LOVED it..:) ..At 6 and 7 we didn't introduce her to pins as she seemed more than happy with character autographs...but this year we added a new element for her and she took to it really well...really enjoying trading with every CM she saw..;)

I think your little one might be a bit too young yet...probably be happy with collecting autographs.

Thank you! I wasn't asking for my DD though. I have a friend who is going soon and I didn't know the answer for her. Thanks!!

My 4 and 5 year old girls are starting this year! They are very excited about it!

LOL We have no children, I started at 39 though ;)

My kids began trading at age 7. On my past trip, a 6 year old with us was obsessed with trading. The only problem the kids have is losing pins off their lanyards when they run or get overly excited. They fall off. You can get locks for the pins but you don't want to lock the traders.

My DD started at 8. It is probably easier now to get started as a child since there are CM's who trade only with children. They are great with the kids. DD didn't do much trading at the beginning because she was too shy to approach a CM. But she loved collecting. By age 10 or so she got over her shyness and loved trading.

My daughter started last year at age 6, she loves it! She is already planning on what pins to search for on our upcoming trip!

We went this past August and my children are 5 and 8. They both LOVED the pin trading and I found that they were more interested in trading pins with the CM'S in the stores that actually looking for things for themselves to buy! I bought 2 pins and a lanyard on sale at The Disney Store for $ 2.99 and then another 10 pins on ebay for $ 20 - they went with 7 pins and I only bought them one there. - they had the greatest time. My daughter ended up collecting Stitch pins and my son went after the sports pins. They were the perfect age and it was money well spent.

My DS started at 4 and has loved it ever since! It's a great activity for the parks, and leads to great CM interaction.:goodvibes

I'm glad to see this post. I have 8 pins for each of my girls and I was worried that it was not going to be enough! Glad to see it worked out well for your children! :)

My DD started trading at age 6. She loves it. We've taken anywhere from 10 to 25 pins, and she always manages to trade them all (sometimes more than once).

My kids were 4 & 7 when they started. DS especially loves it in Epcot, because he's a bit on the shy side and trading pins makes him more comfortable with striking up a conversation with a CM who interests him (he loves chatting with the CMs from the countries in Epcot, and the ones who work with the animals at AK).

My son is 4 and I am thinking of getting him started on this idea. Do the regular Disney stores carry the lanyards?

My kids only have about 8 or 9 each.

I bought a 50 pack on ebay and let each kid (3, 8, 10) pick 5. Then they have the opportunity to "earn" pins doing extra chores.

To answer the original OP, my first 2 started at ages 5 and 7. My 3 year old will start this year solely because his sibling are and you do NOT leave him out. I usually end up carrying the pins in my backpack anyway and his total collection cost $10 so I'm not to worried about them.

We got ours when we fed some neighbor's dogs who went to Disney and they gave them to us. We've been going every since.
