PIN and it's savings?

I am currently booked through a PIN that we received.

A family member was looking online at the same package we have (same resort, room type, tickets, etc.) and her entire package price was only $10 more than mine, using the current spring room offer.

Does this seem right? I thought the PIN was savings us more money, but now it seems like maybe the PIN just gave us priority booking over the spring offer, before it came out?

It's possible that the pin only gave you a head start on the general public spring offer. Sometimes pins are a considerable savings and other times not so much. Sometimes there appears to be a pin, but it's really just an advertisement for the current general public offer. At least that's another $10 towards popcorn, dole whips, or whatever floats your boat ;)

See, this is why I don't understand why people get so worked up over trying to get a PIN. A lot of times there's a public offer going on at the same time, but the way some people act, you'd think a PIN is the only way they can save money.

I can kind of see this - here I was thinking I got a great deal.

And I actually got the PIN at about the same time the spring offer was released, so I don't feel like I got any huge advantage there either. I remember them being released about the same time, because the site was down once the spring offers were released and I had a heck of a time booking!

For my next trip I had a PIN, but the availability was so limited that I just booked the Spring offer at POP and it worked out better for me. They had no availability on the PIN at POP, and while the PIN gave a very moderate discount at some of the higher-end moderates, I went with the less expensive option. Usually with PIN codes you save more on the higher-end properties.

Yeah I had pin last fall the same time as free dining was offered. Only advantage I had was it allowed me to stay at POR which was great since I had 5 people.

I want another

We get just about every PIN and most of them go right in the trash. However, I do get excited about free dining PINs, which we have used three times in the last three years.

A free dining PIN would definitely change my view on them!

Well, you'll make enemies fast with that kind of luck! ;) I think "how did/do you get a pin; what's the current pin; when/what will the next pin be?" Is nearly as common around here as "FP+ - angel or devil?" I've only gotten one once and it was pretty darn close to a public offer, but my PIN had availBility at the resort I wanted while the public offer didn't.

Pins are almost always a RO discount or a FD offer. Their only advantage to public offerings is that you sometimes get them for additional dates or for resorts not included in the public offer. A couple of years ago I had a RO pin for POFQ that wasn't open to the public.

Well, I don't want to make enemies, but I really don't want to change our luck!

Yes, our free dining offers are usually close to the public offers, but with slightly extended dates (a week sooner at the end of August, for example) and better resort availability (including POR this fall, for example). However, in 2012 we got a PIN for free dining in April, which was not near a public free dining offer. So I guess you never know.

Most of them are room discount offers that either aren't a significant savings, or just reflect the public offer.
