Pillows at DVC not good - I think they buy them with All Stars Movies

After staying at BWV, BCV, BWV and VB in 4 different rooms, all the pillows in the rooms were in my opinion not so good - did not fluff well, not good support and did not appear to be in very good shape.

In contrast, the pillows at the AKL Savannah Deluxe Room were comfortable, fairly new and had good support

Did I just get lucky with AKL or do the DVC pillows kinda not make the grade for you as well?

Anyone else feel the same way or differently?

thanks

I agree. My family thinks the pillows at most places, not just DVC resorts, are rather "wimpy". We usually bring our own. It's amazing how much a full size pillow will compress! Stuff it in a plastic bag and sit on it then seal the bag and pack it.

We used to think the same thing, until we had guests over at our house that required paper thin (well almost) pillows. They complained that they frequently have problems at hotels with the pillows being too thick (I did not know that was possible). We debated a while with them saying we think they should be thick. One possibility for us thick pillow people is that we can ask for additional pillows, when the lodging appears to be accomodating thin pillow people.

You can add HH to that list of poor pillow resorts!

During our last visit there (Thanksgiving) I brought my own pillow and what a difference!

You can call housekeeping and ask for a down pillow - I did that at VB and it was MUCH better. I also called at BCV but it took a long time - the HK staff did not know what a down pillow was and brought me the same foam pillow I already had 6 of in the room. I eventually spoke to someone who brought a down one to me...

Not so much the pillows, but I think the mattresses stink! They are like sleeping on plywood. I guess when you are used to the ones at home, nothing will be the same!!!

It's funny, we are "thin pillow" people. My husband and I always get stiff necks when traveling because most of the pillows are too thick! And my sister is allergic to down. I guess they do their best.

I don't have trouble with the pillows, but the mattress is TOO HARD!

RE: "I don't have trouble with the pillows, but the mattress is TOO HARD!"

Wait a minute... Millie, are you posting on the Dis without telling me !?!?!?

Or is this an exact quote all DVC DW's know by heart ??

How do I know I'm in WDW ? Beautifull landscaping, Tremendous Resorts, and DW saying "the mattress is TOO HARD!".

Sorta makes me homesick.

I agree with you Jaysue. I have stayed at BWV, BCV, VWL, OKW and none of them had good pillows. the only hotel so far that had great pillows was Universal's Portofino Bay.

As far as the mattress, I like it firm, so I have never had a problem. DH is a different story.

Whenever we travel by car, we usually bring our own pillows. However, after our first trip to VWL, we leave our pillows at home. It is one place where I have always had a decent pillow. I didn't know that you could request down pillows though. I'll keep that in mind next time we're at BCV!

I think the pillows are OK, not great, not bad. And I love the firm mattresses. At home, I have a down pillow, and it isn't particularly "fluffy", it squishes down pretty flat.

I agree the pillows at BWV, studio room this past week were terrible.... flat as pancakes and hard as rocks!

How can a mattress be "too hard"?
I'm a "marble slab" person when it comes to mattresses.
If it moves when you lie on it, it's too soft. :teeth:

BTW, whenever a person asks "is it just me?", the answer is "yes, it IS just you!"

where pillows are concerned... I am of the quantity not quality person... I need 5 or 6 pillows all to myself to fall into a blissful slumber.

I also agree that the DVC pillows stink. We refer to them as "Bags o' Dirt". When driving we bring our own - when flying I whine all week or if I have a rental car I go out and buy a cheapie to leave behind. I'll check into getting a down pillow in a couple of weeks at BCV, though. Thanks for the suggestion.

I also think the beds at WDW are horrible. Only good one I slept on was the one in the honeymoon suite at the GF.

erikthewise, I do not know the intent of your:

"BTW, whenever a person asks "is it just me?", the answer is "yes, it IS just you!"

but in case it was a jab at my OP, I edited it just for your benefit

jaysue,

It was not meant to be a stab at anyone. I was being silly; I am often tempted to give a teasing answer to a rhetorical question. Of course when someone asks "Is it just me?", in reality it never is just them, so I want to say "Yeah, it's just you" just to be difficult.

2 times in my life, I have stayed at hotels that had really great pillows. So great in fact, that I pulled the pillow out of the case and checked the manufacturer. Both times it was the same manufacturer PACIFIC COAST (Duck Logo) down pillows. These pillows fluff right back up as soon as you raise your head.

Im very allergic too but these have a zippered cover and they did not bother me at all! No sign of feathers laying around either.

My first experience was for 5 nights at the D.C. Hyatt a couple of years ago, and my second experience was just last week in Vegas for 3 nights at Thehotel @ Mandalay Bay. Both 5 star hotels. After sleeping in that bed last week I am determined to upgrade my bedding at home, as it does make a difference. I have not stayed at a Westin, but Im sure this bed would rival the heavenly ones.

They sell PACIFIC COAST pillows at JCPenney's and they range from $90 to $150 each. I have not purchased these yet, but I am buying pillows too often because I don't like it when they get thin and give them to the kids as floor cushions, so I may have to invest when Penney's has a good sale.

Sounds like I may have to bring it with me for my DVC stay!
