Tuesday, October 20th - We Took a Left Turn at Albuquerque and Ended Up in a Ditch!

This was supposed to be one of many stops in our drink-around-the-world quest, but there is something about the Ditch .... it's small, dark, and cozy ... the service is good, the food is better, and the drinks are awesome! And when friends unexpectedly and expectedly join you, why it's downright amazing how a one-hour visit stretches into a five-hour drink-a-thon.

Yes; someone parked a stroller at the bar entrance. And people think my priorities are messed up?

Look at those tequilas glimmering in the alcove...

We started off with one drink apiece and a jumble of appetizers; I apologize but even with the receipt I'm not sure which margarita is which, so I have to guess.

Wild Passion Fruit Margarita?

Blood Orange Margarita?

Guacamole & Wagon Wheel Chips

Shrimp Ceviche

Crab Tostadas

So there we were, finishing up our drinks and snacks and discussing how best to make Norway interesting from a booze perspective, when cdtommie came in with his wife and another couple. Big waves and hallooos were exchanged and they pulled up a table next to us and we started chatting about our respective trips so far and where the best meals had been found. And the thing is, you can't sit in the Ditch with an empty glass ... it just feels wrong, so we ordered another round.

Jalapeno Lime Margarita?

Peach Margarita? I don't even like peach-flavored drinks ...

Now all this time, Jay had been texting Chelsi & Jason to let them know we'd "ditched" ... ha ha ha ... Chefs, and were resting comfortably in the tequila cave with Tommie and his wife. The question was: how soon could they join us?

The couple in question walked through the doorway a minute later - now that's what I call soon!! :lmao:

Another big hallooooo erupted from the table at which point the bartenders and wait staff probably had dollar signs dancing in their heads. As for other Ditch patrons, I wouldn't be surprised if they thought we were a bunch of troublemakers what with all the noise and general hilarity unfolding in our section of the establishment. But if you can't act like a donkey in a tequila bar, while seated under a wall mural that includes a donkey, then when can you?

There's one other thing I'm going to mention, and then I'm just going to post the pictures because that's more fun in this case. I noticed that there were two ladies down near the end of our group of tables, and one of them was wearing a sparkly birthday party hat. Nothing catches tipsy Bendy's nearsighted attention like bright, shiny, sparklies!! So the next thing I knew I had plunked myself down right next to them and started a conversation ... which is not something I typically do. Turns out they had driven over from Tampa to celebrate the birthday girl's day with a couple of margaritas. We invited them to join in with us and somehow I managed to convince everyone to have their picture taken with the special hat ... amazing what a little tequila can do for people, isn't it? And this may sound silly, but I'd had such a wonderful birthday trip that I really wanted to spread the fun and good feelings around so to that end, I bought her a birthday drink ... and got one for myself as well!

You can perhaps forgive me for not remembering too many details from this point forward. ;)

I'd be sad too, if I ordered booze and ended up with two glasses of water.

Holy Tequila Batman. :cool1::banana::cool1:

All those drinks and snacks look wonderful but I think if I had more than two of those margaritas they would be rolling me out of the Ditch. ;)

Looks like a good time was had by all at the Ditch Brenda! I love a good margarita, looks like DH and I will have to check this place out in September.... not sure what we'll do with the kids though LOL. Did you guys spot the owner of the stroller inside?

You'd be amazed at how much you can put away when you have a little food and you space the drinks out over a few hours. ;)

Definitely pay them a visit - you will love it! We saw people there with babies ... sad statement though that may be. :lmao: And if we did see the owner of the stroller I've long since forgotten. Too much to drink, I suppose.

AWESOME! I can't wait to go to the Ditch.:cool1:

Great update! I'm feeling a little tipsy just from reading...:drinking1
My brother and sister-in-law asked me for a recommendation for them for an adult night during their trip next month. I've never been to the Ditch, but based on all the great reviews I'm seeing, I am definitely going to suggest it!

Maybe that carriage was put there by the staff in case they have to wheel someone out....

A minute later??? It was at least 2 minutes! We had to walk all the way from the Festival Center!:lmao:

That was a great day.. and if it wasn't I forgot the part that was bad! How I love margaritas! Can we go back now???!:rotfl2:

What a fun afternoon! You guys make it look good. Can't wait to go back to the ditch and do it right- Jay and Bendy style! :upsidedow

Wow you guys sure know how to have fun!

I made it to the Ditch in January...loved it...avocado margarita YUMMY!! Can't wait to have another one in May and try some of the other margaritas.

It's terrific ... and we owe a debt of gratitude to TDC Nala for scoping the place out for us on its opening weekend!

I felt tipsy trying to make sense of the pictures. :rotfl2: And the Ditch would be a great place for them to spend some adult time ... although you should warn them that there are people who will bring their kids in there. To be fair nothing says they can't bring kids and I guess if families sit at a table they can still order some snacks and the kids can drink water while mom and dad tie one on, but I offer no apologies for the inappropriate and colorful language that will no doubt escape my lips. :rolleyes1

It sure seemed to me like you walked in right after the text! It must be the strange Ditch timewarp that was in effect. ;)

It was an awesome day and I don't remember anything bad either ... the booze must have mercifully wiped that clean from my memory chip! And wait until everyone sees what happened after the ditch .. more booze ... more food ... more booze. :lmao:

What a fun afternoon! You guys make it look good. Can't wait to go back to the ditch and do it right- Jay and Bendy style! :upsidedow

It was a blast!! :thumbsup2

Avocado ... I'm sure we tried that one too, but it wasn't on my receipt. And yes indeed, we did have fun ... and a large tab at the end of the day. :lmao:

WOW just WOW.....we have to make it to The Ditch with y'all in October!!!:cool1::banana::yay:

Oh Kat ... no pressure now, right? :rotfl2::hug:

I have to say I love your reviews and even your blog but I rarely respond but I felt I must! you guys are the kind of people everyone (i.e. me) hopes to run into in a bar! you all looked like you had a blast and that is EXACTLY what vacation is all about! I too love me a good party hat...no matter the occasion and no matter who is wearing it!

Glad you were able to meet up and make some great new friends! can't wait to read the rest of your reviews!

Ditch Day Afternoon, Part II
Tuesday, October 20th - We Spent the Day in a Ditch!

I'm sitting here reading and chuckling to myself when DH says "what's so funny?"
So I told him about your threads (including why it's Benda/Bendy instead of Brenda :lmao:, can you tell how long I've been lurking?) Anyway, thanks for the great reviews and commentary! I'm living vicariously through the DIS boards until November. 251 days, not that I'm counting or anything...:rolleyes1

I just loved that you all had to pose for a pic wearing the Party Hat! :rotfl2:

Not to mention all the Nacho Hat silliness later. I picture Jay and Jason on the tiny tricycle that Krusty and Homer had to loop de loop on for the mobster. :lmao:

You also managed to snag all my favorite snackables at the The Ditch, except for the chips and salsa. You would have completed my favorite items if you included those. I think you did identify many of the drinks correctly, if my own memory serves me right. I did manage to taste many of the fine beverages on various occasions. :rolleyes1

October 9th. I'm heading there after I get off the plane.

Absolutely fun review of the "Ditch". LOVED all the photos of the drinks and respectable owners :lmao:
I need to show your review to Tom this afternoon, he'll love it! ;)

Wow! That's a lot of margaritas! I would have been under the table, or dancing on top of it. Tequila makes me loose all my inhabitions. In fact, DH likes it when I drink Tequila! ;)

Glad you all had a great time. Looks like a blast.

WOOHOO! This is the Part of the day we remember with out clues and flashbacks! :rotfl2:
That is a typical picture of Jason and I mouth full.. waiting for more. Like a seal at Seaworld!:lmao:

HI LORI!!!!!

Bring on more!

Totally love that pic at the bottom. Hassaaaaan CHOP!!!
