Saturday, October 17th - Join us for a DISmeet in the Beach Club Solarium ... Cakey Goodness Provided for All Who Attend!
It really wasn't my intention to host a DISmeet on my birthday ... or any day, actually. The whole thing started out as a handful of people who were going to get together after PFTS and share a drink or two. I then mentioned that since it was my birthday and I'd always wanted a special cake from Disney that Jay and I would supply dessert. Someone else offered to bring booze. As the summer wore on, more and more DISfriends booked trips around the same time in October and as it turned out, most of us were going to be able to meet on the evening of the 17th. I took a headcount, told Jay what I wanted to try to do, and bless his lovey heart he gave me his patented shoulder shrug of approval.
Grimace taught me when I was a wee girl that hosting a party means you should provide party favors for your friendies who are generous enough to give up their time to celebrate with you. So the first order of business was coming up with appropriate gifties that wouldn't break the bank. To that end I hit upon a grab bag idea that would let my friendies choose a gift - I figured if someone didn't like what they'd chosen they could always swap with someone else.
Here's what I put together:
Boozie recipe book!
Pewter wine charms.
Wrapped in Mickey paper!!!
Liquid refreshments.
Jay and Bendy's treasure chest of booze, one night only!
Frozin ... our contribution to the party drinks.
And so the night arrived and I grew more and more nervous ... like hands shaking nervous ... because I was so worried that everyone would have a craptacular time and it would be my fault because the meet had been my idea and I'm actually pretty boring in person. And what if the cake was inedible or didn't turn out the way I'd hoped and what if we couldn't hold our gathering in the Solarium without a reservation or something? It's a public room so I just assumed we could do what we wanted but what if we couldn't? We all know what they say about the word assume.
Jay and I were running late thanks to Flying Fish and when we arrived at the Solarium we found Lori and Catherine already there along with a CM from private dining. A special thanks goes out to the two of them once again for getting the ball rolling in our absence.
And when I saw the cake, I squealed ... I clapped my hands ... I capered. I loved it!!!!
I butcher every cake I try to cut ... it's a curse!
Playing with knives is fun!
One of the things that I didn't realize in advance ... ordering through Private Dining meant that they were going to supply plates, napkins, and cutlery. It just didn't occur to me that that was included in the total price I was quoted, so I actually had paper plates, napkins, and plastic forks and knives.
D'OH!
I also had nametags worked up for everyone so that we would actually know who was who. My dear friend Nancy made them for me. Unfortunately they wouldn't stick to anyone no matter how hard we tried, so we ended up with everyone walking around un-named ... it was more exciting that way!
I really regret not getting everyone together for a group picture or three, but everyone arrived at different times and by the time things were really rolling the idea went right outta my head.
So please enjoy some pictures of the evening ... and friendies, any of you who would like to share your own pictures, please feel free to do so here!
To be continued ...
