i suppose when everyone thinks of my part of the world, they think of this iconic building
sydney_T2A3407.jpg

most visitors also find out we have another icon - the coathanger (which just turned 75 last month).

contrary to popular belief, i don't have a pet Skippy running through my yard

we do have great beaches
l5.jpg

although they aren't always open

we do tend to hang out with our mates at the
picture-16.jpg

and we have other things to keep us entertained

we start drinking beer at a young age and there are subliminal messages (and some not so sublime) everywhere to reinforce this

despite our history as a penal island, anyone who comes for a visit and has gone through customs knows that we are very strict on who we let in.

0bli0 I always love your photos. The one of the huge wave crashing on the beach is awesome. You can feel the oceans power through the photo.

well i thought i lived in a boring part of the world and the above just proves it:lmao:
nearest big city: Cleveland Ohio ( 35 or so miles) think this is jacob's field, baseball ( not a sports fan but the lights look familiar ;)
20070302010copy_filtered.jpg

nearest large body of h20: Lake Erie along with nearest giant smoke stacks, ( about 11 miles N since we are just out of the evacuation area should smoke stack blow up) said lake still has lots of ice cover hence the fog coming in
20070325216copy_filtered.jpg

some pretty areas and lots of streams, creeks, rivers etc( about 12+ miles W)
_MG_9103copy_filtered.jpg

closer to home: lots of barns, cows etc(closest "real" farm= mile or so down the road) basically 3 seasons: snow , mud and dust
IMG_5527copy_filtered.jpg

as well as behind my kitchen door: fields ,trees, "nature preserve" so lots of deer, bunnies and therefore coyote

you can yawn now

thanks, so much!! that photo was taken after a huge storm and gave us some very big surf for a few days. at some beaches it made for some decent surfing. but at this beach (and a few others), it proved to be too big to get out into the sets. there were about 4 boards broken at this beach from locals who were trying to take advantage of the large swells, before i went to another beach.

it's kind of hard to get a full feeling for the size of the wave but if you look in the pool, you can see the arm of a person swimming. :scared1:

jann1033 - where in Ohio exactly? I grew up in Kent. I'll be going back this summer for the first time since I left, 21 years ago!

And here I thought that every Australian had a pet kangaroo! And they usually hop around with boxing gloves on - the kangaroos, not the Australians. At least, that's what I learned from TV....... ;) Actually, probably the most of Australia I've seen has been from the WRC event, which is near Perth (and kangaroos are hit by rally cars sometimes!) I seem to recall hearing that Australia has basically two big cities, Perth and Sydney, and they're on opposite ends of this enormous continent and there's pretty much nothing in-between. I'm sure that's not QUITE the case... and some could argue that the USA is the same way, with LA and NYC...!

I actually got a few pictures of a wallaby at our local zoo a few days ago, complete with its baby in its pouch... very cute. Is a wallaby baby a joey? I'm too lazy to look it up. :)

we have a few big cities. largest is Sydney at 4.5 million, then Melbourne at 3.5 million, Brisbane at 1.8, Perth at 1.4, and Adelaide at 1.1. after that we have a few smaller cities and then a whole bunch of tiny towns all totalling the rest of the population (around 8 million).

btw yeah the WRC event just outside of Perth is great!

Geauga county..which is east of Cleveland, but west of the Pa border;) . I think Kent is maybe an hr or so south?( or south west? ) we live outside of Chardon, in Hamden which probably doesn't help at all since Chardon is pretty little and well Hamden is kind of a drive through a stop light then a few feet of road kind of thing

Small world - I know exactly where you are. I'll be visiting my cousin in Chagrin Falls, just 23 miles from you. My family comes from Mantua, another teeny tiny town directly south of you.

Chagrin Falls has some cute houses...i'm always tempted to go take some photos there but not sure how many homeowners would appreciate it. I was attempting to take some of Morton Salt mine and salt hills in Fairport the other night but decided to leave after the police drove past, turned around and headed back in my direction, although it is right by the Coast Guard Station so maybe he thought i was a homeland security breech. guess I'm chicken
I'm terrible at directions but i know I've been to Mantua as well, probably when I'm out getting lost somewhere;) Have a nice visit and the snow ought to be gone by then .

This is a lousy time for me to photograph my corner of the world, cause I'm just not a cold weather person.

This is what I woke up to this morning. I don't think there is anything quite as depressing as looking at your boat, covered in snow, on the first day of spring break!

These are a few I snapped on the way to the gym this morning.

This is where my husband and I got married (in better weather, obviously!)

Is that glass modern looking building as big as it appears in the picture?? It looks like its almost as high as London Bridge but I'm sure it's just the angle. DH and I were in London in our early 20's about 15+ years ago and I'm assuming it has been built since then, it looks new and I sure don't remember seeing a building of that size when we were there, it almost looks out of place.

that is a very cool building. I was wondering what that was too. I got ahold of a friend who lives in London. He said that is the "Headlight Building". it is the government building on the Thames which houses the Mayof of London and his staff.

Yes, its basically the "town hall" - albeit a very grand one! The Mayor of London works out of here. Years ago the GLC (Greater London Council) worked from a huge building a little further up the Thames - the GLC was disbanded in the 80s by Mrs Thatcher, but Ken Livingstone, the GLC leader back in those days is now, ironically, Mayor of London! The old GLC building is now a hotel.

There are many new buildings with some interesting architechture springing up in our Capital. Im going up on Saturday with the children to the Aquarium for the day so will take some more photos!

I will try to repost these photos....somehow the IMG code is not working for the first pic, but I added one using the edit button, maybe that did something...will try to add all my pics at a later post.

I decided to post a few more pictures.:)

My road this past October...
