Hello out there, my Pickle friends!

First, Tracy I am so sorry your mother is not doing well - my heart aches for you and Janet.
I will catch up soon - posting from my new iPad and so far prefer my laptop. This isn't any different than my iPhone except the font is slightly larger. Honestly, I don't get why so many love their iPad .... But then we all know I am not normal.

Tried the iPad Dis app but it was awful!! Looks completely different .

Thanks. It truly sucks. I am not coping with it well at all. The other night at bingo with my sister, she needed four dollars to buy some extra cards. Well, she always pays with two (twoonies - our two dollar coins) and she was upset that she couldn't buy them. She didn't understand the concept that she could have used other change or a five dollar bill to buy the cards with. I totally lost it.

Then, my mother in law (foster one to hubby) calls us at 10pm Thursday night from the nursing home inviting us to supper because she just sold the house (several years ago) and was all in a tizzy because she didn't know where she was going to seat everyone, especially her brother and sister in law (who has been dead for years) Why that woman has access to a phone in her state of mind is beyond me, but BIL will not listen even though she calls 911 all the time for the most ridiculous things. She should not have access to a phone and it makes me so angry. It's just flying at us in all directions. Dementia, Alzheimer's... it all sucks! I just want to put myself in a big bubble, plug my ears and sing lalalalalalalalala until it all goes away.

Didn't you just get a new laptop? I don't get the hype with the ipads either.

Oh, God, Tracy, how sad...and terribly stressful for you. I know how sensitive you are to others and so know you take this all in your heart. I am so sorry.

The laptop was bought in August if 2010, but I didn't even beginnusingnit until that November. It was my second Dell after I swore never to buy another...first one was a lemon and this one began having issues after just a year....but this time it was not the fault of Dell. I was carrying up a huge plastic water cup to Mia in her office - it had a lid and a straw...you can see where this is going...stopping in my room to drop off a paper...VERY slightly bent over the laptop to put the coupon on my little table when the water came pouring out of the straw all over the key board. I felt instantly sick...we all know liquid is the death of a keyboard. Held out a little hope it might dry...but not so far. Thankfully Mia was able to put the iPad in her Best Buy account. I did consider and research another laptop, but cost wise this was the best...so far I am not crazy, about it at all. Would return it but stupidly did not think and registered it before trying it for a day! How utterly STUPID was that move?!

Still holding out hope for the laptop - maybe someone will know what I can try to get it working.

Ah, well sorry about the laptop. Hopefully the iPad will suffice. As I've been humbled over the past year, some things are better than nothing at all.

I appreciate your kind words. I don't/won't talk much about things anymore, so that little vent was about all you will all hear from me, save for the few occasional mini rants, I suppose. We're all human, right?

This week is going to be a crazy one. I'm buckling my seat belts now and praying for the best. Enjoy the last of the craziness everyone and have a wonderful Christmas with those who matter.

Happy 2013 to you too, Tracy! Hope it turns out to be an unexpectedly wonderful year for all of us.

It is a sad day for our RC thread and others on the DIS who were blessed to know an incredible woman - Sarah (Jungle Cruiser) returned to heaven yesterday and many of us lost a dear friend. Sarah had a way of making everyone feel they were special. She was such an inspiration with her positive attitude, sense of humor and thoughtfulness. She amazingly survived cancer, and many many debilitating treatments for 7 years.

Today I am very grateful to have known Sarah as a friend. I am also grateful for each of our Pickles - you have all touched my life with your friendship. Thank you.

Gosh, this place has tumbleweeds rolling through it. LOL Ah well, I'm not on here much anyways. Am enjoying my recluse status at the moment. Sort of.

I am sorry for the loss of your friend, Christine. How very sad. Sounds like she was one fighter. Seven years. Oh my. What a time to go through all of that. Heaven has another angel.

I'm glad to have 'met' all my Pickle friends as well. Some in real life! Have a great 2013 everyone!

Yes, we had fun at the pool! Wished we could have spent more time together! I've met you and Kathy.

My BFF and I have been chatting and whining about the weather and missing palm trees and our froo froo drinks. I'm feeling another trip coming on... except we are supposed to be leaving for the Dominican in four months! Uht oh! I'm not sure what is left for me to cut back on to have the $$$ to go. Oh, who needs groceries! Ramen 24/7. No problem.

Hey Christine, if you don't mind, can you tell me what parking is like around Symphony Hall in Boston and what area of the city that it's in? I'm trying to find a cheap place to stay, but I am confused with how the different parts of the city are named when checking Expedia. Appreciate if you could weigh in.

Trace, I would not stay too close to Symphony Hall - it's in a very iffy area...but very nearby - within walking distance is the Sheraton Boston and a Hilton (both at the Prudential) - I will look up to see if the Hilton is still a Hilton and what else may have opened sense we moved. Will also ask a local friend. Let me go on Expedia and see what is being offered - be sure to check individual hotel website as sometimes deals can be better. What are the dates you are considering? I will see what comes up at available. Unfortunately, anything cheap in Boston will be in a bad neighborhood and a dive.

Cool, on the Boston trip Trace! Might you be meeting up with your friend April?? And you mentioned the Dominican Republic a page or two back .. is that taking form?

For us … planning on Disney this August with maybe another one or two trips.... I do have this AP to use…we are eyeing beginning of November for MNSSHP (and to party with Heather!) and then there's the grannie trip!

Sam and I have been exercising together and we both have lost some weight and toned up. The good news is she is focused on changing her lifestyle… which I have been waiting for her to realize that she has too! Prayers do get answered.

Been watching the Disney channel since Christine told me the Lion King was on… now Tangled is on!

Really? Well that stinks. Oh, I always go to the hotel site after I check Expedia, no worries there. We will be there June 20-23. Looks like we're going to end up in a dive area then. Thanks for checking anyways. I guess there is no need to now. We may need to stay on the outskirts and then play "get on and off the turnpike because we don't have a clue where we are going" for hours upon end.


Hey Janet. No, we will not be seeing our best friends this year at all! Our Dominican trip went bust because of complications from my surgery and other issues, so we will be celebrating our 15th anniversary there next year and also renewing our vows. This trip to Boston is our "vacation" this year. We just need to get away. It also falls on the week that my youngest step daughter is graduating which happens to be on our wedding anniversary..., so once that is over, we will catch the late ferry (they live on an island in our province) and drive somewhere that evening across the border, hang our hats for the night and then head to Boston on the 20th. Gonna be a crazy week for sure.

Wonderful news on all of your Disney trips! This will be the first year since 2009 that we won't be there. Not even sure if we'll be going next year either. Depends on a lot of factors right now and I am okay with that. There's always another time, Godwilling.

Congratulations on the weight loss. Feels good, doesn't it? I've been losing it at a very unhealthy rate since my gall bladder surgery, so my surgeon needs to figure that stuff out and pump some nutrients into me somehow. I'd give anything to change that bad decision to have it removed. Hindsight and all that.

We watched the Bible series last night. Can't wait to see it all! Was surprised they started it where they did, but loving it nonetheless.

Tracy, how awful to hear there was complications after your gallbladder surgery. I have the old fashioned huge incision so know it is not an easy recovery. I was in the hospital 10 days prior with a terrible infection, then another 5 after the surgery - mine was complicated and understand the difficult recovery. If they had to take the bile ducts as well, it likely means eating plain food forever. Praying you will feel better very soon.

What about Hotwire for a good Boston hotel at a lower rate? Can you tell me some of the hotels you are considering? A good option is to stay in Cambridge (my home) which is just across the Charles River and very handy to everything (you'd not even be able to tell you're not actually in Boston). You'd be right on the Green Line "T" - which goes to Symphony Hall stop, as well as the Prudential Center - a very nice area to walk around - I did a lot of shopping at the Pru Lord & Taylor back in the day.

There is also a Mall within walking distance of the hotel I have in mind and a great Italian Bakery a few blocks up the street - loads of places to eat on Cambridge Street (right near the hotel).

I am going to check right now while I have a few minutes before having to hop in the shower...BRB!
