Piano practice on-board?

Just got off a Fantasy real-cruise directly after having taken a Starcruiser fake-cruise. In all, with driving days and a few beach days in-between cruises, it was about 12 days away from home.

My youngest plays piano, and has a piano app on his iPad to practice his fingerwork while we are traveling. It's not a perfect solution, but it's better than nothing (we've never tried those touch-sensitive electronic roll-up mats).

But I was wondering - is there any place on-board where DCL might let someone practice on a real keyboard or piano for 10-15 minutes per day? I can't imagine they'd let any guest even touch the piano in the atrium, but maybe a practice/rehearsal room or something?

I know it's a stretch, and my gut tells me "no," but I thought I'd throw it out to the hive-mind to see if I'm wrong about this. Please and thanks.

Thanks. My question is more out of curiosity than a genuine need for a solution. The iPad app has been "good enough" for us so far.

I agree that they would never allow a guest to be in a public space like the atrium where they would be a distraction to the other guests. I also would doubt that a guest would be let in any crew only spaces (e.g. rehearsal rooms).

I could potentially see the person playing the keyboard for the Disney tunes trivia allowing a guest to use their keyboard in the D-Lounge for a minute after the trivia is finished, but I suspect that most guests would not have any luck in getting something regular and structured.

Having said that, if you were in a 1 bedroom suite or a royal suite, I bet the odds of DCL finding a keyboard that could be put in your stateroom for the duration of the cruise would be a lot higher........

I've never seen a piano (an extra one) out in any public area on the two Disney ships I have been on.
So, I believe the answer to your question will be no.

Musical instruments are on the DCL prohibited items list. (I believe some other cruise lines allow ukuleles, at least on Hawaii cruises, but not DCL as far I have heard.)

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Not that I’d book Concierge solely for something like that, but I’m curious if they’d make that happen.

Kazoos would be a choking hazard. You play one and other guest will choke you to stop you from playing.

The worst would be if recorders were allowed on board. I always made my kids practice those outside . The prohibited list is quite interesting we had a good laugh at some of the items on the list.

As someone who was in marching band in high school, I can attest to the truthfulness of this.

But in answer to the original question, I think your only option is the ipad app.

My son played tenor sax in the marching band when he was in high school. Whether it was a parade or in the stands at a football game they were always positioned right in front of the trombones. I always found it amazing that the entire tenor section didn't end up with concussions by the end of the year .

I guess if you annoyed a neighboring guest enough with your playing, violence could ensue.

A cruise we went on pre pandemic my wife took my son into one of the lounges that was closed officially but had a bartender in there. My wife asked if he could practice and the bartender said sure. He even turned on the electric piano for him. This was on the Dream. So ask around and good luck!

I have been in "Keys" during off (i.e., most of the) hours, and the piano is just sitting there. Not sure if it's locked.

The right request to the right Officer, and I bet a competent user could play a bit. As long as no damage was done, and no guests were being disturbed, I would guess it might be possible. Ymmv I suppose.

Funny you ask this OP since I was just thinking the same question for my daughter. Not surprised by the answers - I guess she'll have to take a week off from practicing.
