Blue Card decision for Poly, Copper Creek, or VDH?

My fear with passing up on VDH now is that it becomes like Grand Californian in direct base price once Disneyland FW is finished since I would not want to buy VDH resale.
I'll just share the one thought I've had on that the few times I thought about VDH - for me, mostly as just mental exercise since I really have no business buying VDH given I have no plans to make DLR trips a regular occurrence. It seems to me that, if VDH sells out and DL FW comes to its full potential, there will most certainly be a new DVC resort added at some point in Anaheim.

That said, you're in a different boat with actual planned trips to DLR, so, yes, maybe flipping a coin is the right move!

I would love another DVC in Anaheim, but Anaheim is a whole different beast than WDW. Its very very hard for them to get anything done there due to the city being difficult and them not owning or having full access to much land. For instance they cant even flip Pixar to DVC if they wanted to. In FL they basically can do whatever they want wherever they want, thats a no go in CA.

If they add a 3rd DVC in CA, I suspect it would be a bit further from the parks, south of Katella. I couldn't see myself buying over there unless they added a fun mode of transportation like a people mover.

The trouble is I emotionally want both of them equally! 😩 Especially after looking at videos of those Tiana themed 1 bedroom villas at VDH, and Moana themed at Poly. I would be happy with either home resort, and FOMO for the one I didn’t choose.

Another factor that has just come into play is my married child who had all the plans of moving to AZ in the next few years, is now likely to stay in the Southeast region due to her DH’s job path and promotion. So although I still plan to make trips back to CA each year or two, or on the way to Hawaii, it may just be studios needed, or 1 bedroom villas at VDH for me and a few kids, and not those big family reunion trips where I would actually plan 11 months ahead. Looks like WDW may be our home base for a while. Maybe it’s best if I hold off on VDH until we actually need that home base if the kids move back.

When I imagine where I would most want to take family visiting Florida for a big Disney park reunion trip for all the best vibes, location, and theming, it’s the Poly. In California it’s the Disneyland Hotel. My fear with passing up on VDH now is that it becomes like Grand Californian in direct base price once Disneyland FW is finished since I would not want to buy VDH resale.
That Poly Tower point chart is pretty abysmal….. and this is coming from someone who is used to Aulani, VGC/VDH, and VGF point charts…..

This is how I do things with my husband. I ask him, make him chose then once he choses I know how I really felt about it, more often than not its the opposite of what he chose.
If my wife tried that she would hear the word “nope” a lot more.

I think FOMO will most likely hit at VDH than it will at Poly.
I do think DLF is going to make VDH much more popular, but I don’t think it is going to happen soon, but once it does it may be too late. lol

This is simple. Flip a coin.
  • Heads you buy Poly, tails you buy VDH.
  • If you are disappointed, buy the other thing.
  • If you are still disappointed, don't buy yet.
Pure genius!! lol

It will be at the GardenWalk… further from Dl and DCA, but directly connected to W.COT. ;)

I have decided on buying the Villas at the Disneyland Hotel, and didn’t even have to flip a coin! (I did come close to needing that coin toss though)

When I first started this thread I had almost ruled out VDH, and was pretty sure we would go with the Poly, so this was an unexpected choice for me. I appreciate all of the input here because the process of analyzing these 3 DVC resorts has led me to finding where I want to call home.

Here is why I choose VDH over Poly:

  • I will not buy VDH on resale with how close the price point is with direct, and the restrictions on using those points only at VDH. Since I can’t use my other resale contracts there, it makes sense to buy at VDH. This one was the biggest factor for me. Direct Poly points could be used at VDH too, but I might want that 11 month booking window since we would likely plan further ahead flying cross country. Currently our Florida trips have all been under the 7 month mark since we are in driving distance.

  • I don’t really need home priority in WDW like I do California, since I would be happy staying at any of the DVC resorts in the 7 month window.

  • The FOMO for VDH is stronger than Poly, especially with the expansion coming.

  • I can currently use my resale contracts to stay at the Polynesian already. If or when I need to add a contract at Poly, I can always do resale in the future if direct prices me out.

  • I want to own in California, having lived there my entire life. This brings me some happiness after our recent move to the East coast, to have that little piece of home. Now California trips will be a special vacation getaway (hopefully on the way to Aulani!).

  • With Disneyland Forward coming, I will need a home base priority at VGC or VDH because I want to be in the Disney bubble (Harbor Blvd motels are not the experience I want). With the exception of Christmas, VDH is my preferred location to be.

  • One question kept coming back into my mind someone here had asked, that helped ease my fears of the VDH dues. Is spending the extra $338+ a year in annual dues vs Poly worth it to own at VDH? Reflexively I thought NO, but with what I am saving in buy in cost at VDH vs Poly, I am ok with it now. The emotional connection and nostalgia my family has with the Disneyland Hotel should have made the decision from the start. I listened to several DVC podcasts on VDH, and have fallen in love with this hotel all over again. It is a very special DVC resort, unlike any others. That alone is worth the $332 extra a year.

  • Those one and two bedroom villas won me over! The theming and history of the Disneyland Hotel is what makes VDH so magical. I will ignore the Ikea wood for now, and enjoy everything else so beautifully done in those rooms!

I am going to schedule a tour for my trip next week, and planning to sign while there! 🎉✨🥳

Should I do a 50/50/50 split, or 100/50?

Thank you everyone for all your great advice!

Big congrats on your decision! I am a fan of a 50/50/50 split if you are okay with extra closing costs. If you really want to only split once vs twice Id go 75/75.

You can’t go wrong with either…
1. Do you have kids? (How many)
2. Would you ever keep only 50pts?
3. If neither of those 2 lead you to 50x3 then don’t spend the extra closing cost.

Congrats, I am in no position to buy any points but this thread has opened my eyes to the possibility, I just can’t make it make enough sense over something like CCV (and I already have VGC)

If strictly resale value is the goal the 75/75 level should do pretty well. If flexibility is the goal with resale value value if you ever decide you don’t need as many points there then 100/50 would be good. With the extra closing costs where it is now and the extra cost on resale I don’t know that going 50/50/50 would be worth it.

Thank you!

1. 4 adult children, plus son-in-law.
2. Probably not since our family trips will continue growing in size.
3. My only thought is if I wanted to do a 50 pointer at VGC, or CCV for a Christmas priority window in the future, but I would likely just add on a resale contract.
