I bought into SSR, in large part due to its specific proximity to DTD and, more specifially, the Comedy Warehouse and ADventurer's Club.

I took my child to Disney every year, and, as he became a teenager, I bought into SSR to preserve our vacation memories in a location where the amentiies were perfect with for a family with children that were no longer so much into the Magic Kindgom, etc.

Sure, we do Epcot and MGM, etc., but at night we would always retreat back to DTD--Disney Quest, walk around the market place (sometimes) and always, without exception head over to the early show of the Comedy Warehouse improv and check into the Adventurer's Club. These are perfect for parents with teens, looking to enjoy their evening. SSR's location was perfect for our family.

I feel that being at SSR without these will be sad for us--even possibly depressing.

Can we post a poll? Can anything be done to stop this madness?

Can anything be done to stop this madness?
Probably not. The closures are based on a clear understanding of the value of the clubs versus what they have planned, so talk won't make a difference. If a large number of guests stop visiting WDW because of the closure of the clubs, that might bring them back, in some form, in a few years.

I agree with bicker -- there's probably nothing that can be done.

This is not just a business decision about closing outlets that haven't met expectations. It's also a strategic decision to get Disney out of the nightclub business at DTD, in part due to the problems they've been having with gangs and other undesireables.

To be honest, I wonder whether closing the clubs will help with the undesireable problems they are having. They'll still have a popular shopping destination with lots of activity, which is a great venue for morons to show their stuff. I doubt the gang members spent any time or money in the clubs anyway.

But, can this be turned around? Naw, I doubt it. Obviously Disney put a lot of thought into this and some complaining on the DIS, or even to MS isn't going to make any difference.

I wonder how the new development to the west of the property plays into all this.

Can you explain what the new development is? I'm also upset about these two clubs closing. I bought into SSR because we were so close to PI. My children are also nearly grown and enjoy PI. Now I'm wishing we bought at the bWV.

I think it was the begining of the end when they stopped requiring a ticket to enter the general PI area and made the island the walkway between Marketplace and Westside, open to all ages, all the time.

Plus, in general, nightclubs seem not to be as popular as they were a few years ago.

Keeping the thread DVC related, as far as affecting SSR, if the primary reason you purchased was for the proximity to PI...it was made clear from the beginning, even to us that purchased in the early years at OKW, that we were purchasing the right to use our home resort, nothing more. It was explained that Disney could change/close any attraction or park, and that you should not purchase DVC based upon the assumption that Disney World would always be the Disney World we know and love. While I do understand your disappointment (Kungaloosh!), there is really not much that can be done to stop these changes.

Chuck - I've been saying this very same thing. We loved visiting PI at night after the parks closed, especially AC & CW. It hasn't been the same since they allowed open access. It's so strange to see babies in strollers among people doing jello shots.

We also own at SSR and it has been nice to be that close to PI, which we visit at least 2 nights out of a 5 night stay. It will be sad to see AC & CW go.

Chuck, I couldn't agree more. SSR had a fireworks viewing "platform" built for it, so guests could watch the fireworks shot off at Downtown Disney. Now it's just a sitting area on the south side of Congress Park's pool. Things change with respect to the parks and DTD . . . and we can't buy in to DVC assuming that they are always going to be the same.

We have visdited WDW over 40 times in the last 15 years.
Because we don't have kids, one of my favorite things at WDW was the Adventurers' Club. I looked forward to it for months prior to arrival.

Because of the decision to close the AC, we will be seriously considering selling some or all of our DVC points.

Let's hope they relocate the AC. :sad1:

Even though we did not really include PI in our plans, I was hoping to visit eventually. I will reserve my criticism with Disney's decision until I know what is going to be replacing the night clubs. It may actually be better than before, at least from my family's perspective.

just got back from a may trip and the AC was so packed that every room that was doing a show was filled to the brim and the common room was standing room only as well. this was for all five nights so it will be a real shame as the CW and AC were always big stops for me on a trip. there is a petition out there but as others have said don't know if it will change any minds:

EDIT: Link Removed - Chuck S

A gentle reminder that links to petitions or form letter mailings are not allowed on the DVC Boards. :)

Also, please keep the topic to how PI closing will affect SSR, OKW or DVC in general.

Thanks.

Thank you for that gentle reminder Chuck ;)

I'm sad PI is closing but I dont think it will affect DVC all that much. Disney is smart and usually has an amazing master plan. I do like PI bit I'm placing my faith in them that they'll do something even more spectacular. :goodvibes

It is time to redevelop PI. The convoluted admission set up, the awkward placement of it breaking up Downtown Disney into two retail areas separated, and some very tired clubs (No, I don't mean Adventurers Club or the Comedy Club.)

I for one am excited that the area is getting made over. There is not reason a Adverntures Club or Comedy Club could not get worked into Downtown Disney.

Personally, my favorite two really weren't PI clubs, Raglan Road and Sosa's Cigar Bar.

Either way SSR owners will have many choices at DD.

someone else say that AC was to be moved to the new theme park that Disney is planning.

nothing about CC.

do they still have the week pass?

I'm really only concerned about one thing with the closures and that's the possibility of no more ticketed fireworks events. When SSR first opened one of its selling points was that viewing platform to enjoy fireworks every night. Then PI went to an open entry and the fireworks displays went away. They currently only have then for NYE and July 4th and that is with a special ticket entry.

From my limited understanding of how much such fireworks shows cost it seems like they relied on the financing for those events to make them affordable. How else does DTD raise the capital? There are no parking fees, revenue from restaurants and shopping pay for the overhead of such places.

While I do enjoy parts of DTD in many different ways (mornings shopping at Marketplace, afternoons or early evenings catching a movie and eating in West Side), I am concerned the club closures will adversely affect my enjoyment of SSR. For one thing, the only reason I started going to Disney at New Year's was for those fireworks and the resort party.

There's no special ticket entry on July 4th. The annuals work, and for people without an annual the price is the same as 364 other nights.

I think it's a shame Disney is closing Comedy Warehouse. I bought as many points as I have mainly because I wanted more trips to WDW to enjoy Comedy Warehouse at night. However, what I bought was prepaid lodging, and I'll still have the use of that and will still be there even without Comedy Warehouse. If I was only going for Comedy Warehouse, this would be the time for me to sell....but I would have been foolish to buy it for that reason.

In my opinion, it's too early to judge what's going on at PI. I have a feeling that AC will survive in some form or another, a CC will be apart of the DTD area, and there will be some sort of night time show (fireworks, laserlights, or who knows) that the SSR crowd will get to see.

As an BWV owner, I wonder if Atlantic Dance club is next go?:confused3

I've only been to the adventurer's club once. I have to say after going that one time I thought this was one of the unique experiences at Disney. We did not buy at SSR because of it per se, but one of the reasons we liked SSR was its proximity to DtD and some of the unique experiences we could try there in addition to the parks. We were looking forward to return trips there as the kids got older. I'd like to see DtD continue to evolve to offer more than just restaurants.

I can see their point about the concept of Pleasure Island as a whole, but there is no reason in my mind why they could not work the Adventurer's club concept into a revamped DtD. I like the idea of Disney offering more unique experiences that appeal to different tastes, not less. As a repeat visitor, that is part of the appeal- discovering new things that we've not tried before as well as going back to places that offer a different experience each time.
