(I hope this is OK - this is the HMAS Diamantina, now decommissioned. Originally commissioned 1945-1946. Carried Japanese high command (Lt Gen Kanda and Vice Admiral Baron Samejima to surrender at Torokina, and surrender documents were signed on the quarterdeck)

Dog riding in car:

(Technically, the car isn't moving but the dogs are in there! The Queensland Police dog squad were here today doing training exercises with their dogs and also officers and dogs from the Papua New Guinea Police dog squad. Most of the work they were doing was below decks on the Diamantina!)

Like Heather, I too am learning heaps about my city and country!

Armed Forces* as represented by the Flags of the Australian Armed Forces

The Australian Army is the ceremonial protector of the Australian National Flag.
0712ArmedForcesAJuly12.jpg

The Australian Navy has been using this flag since circa 1967. You will note that the Navy ships posted by Shushh, Heather and myself all display this flag at the stern of the ships (the Australian National Flag is flown from the bow).
0712ArmedForcesDJuly12.jpg

This Royal Airforce flag was adopted in 1948 and used until 1982. The red roundel has been replaced with a leaping red kangaroo.
0712ArmedForcesBJuly12.jpg

Constallation* Southern Cross (I do plan to get out to take a night shot - it's just been too cloudy and cold!)

Most Australian flags display the Southern Cross. This constellation of five stars can be seen only from the southern hemisphere and is a reminder of Australia’s geography.
0712ArmedForcesEJuly12.jpg

ps. This flag is the Civil & Merchant Flag. It is used by any ship that is registered in Australia.

Island Found in Albert Park Lake, where the Australian Grand Prix is raced.

Inn Sign* Appropriately named for Australia!

Kookaburra* Replaces previous picture. I found these two LIVE kookaburras in the Royal Botannical Gardens, Melbourne....right in the HEART of the city! I was walking past searching for a good shot of islands when I heard them laugh. Couldn't run fast enough in their direction!

0712KookaburrasJuly12.jpg

Quad or Quint* My ecclectic Quad or Quint consists of Mardi Gras beads (from TinkerbellinLouisian), a Louisianna cookbook (from her husband), a lime-green mickey ears (home made by Owtrbanks) and a pair of oven mittens (from LuvChefMic...who knew I was celebrating my birthday). These were traded and given at a DisMeet on May 11th....Cocktails by Storm Along Bay.

These are what I traded for my quad/quint items! Australian Pins!

How has everyone been keeping track of what you have gotten. I have mine in a separate gallery on my smugmug account.

Here is one I thought I would not be able to get. On Sunday, I figured I wouldn't need a camera in church so I took the Fuji out of my purse. But of course what do I see when I get to church. Someone dressed in a kilt with bagpipes playing during the service. All I had was my cell phone camera. So here is the terrible quality picture with my cell phone camera of something I thought I would not see.

Really enjoying seeing everyone's photos!!!

I printed out the list and right the date and post # of the photos I've posted. I have all the photos in one album on photobucket.

Ooh! this looks like fun! I'm a little behind but i'll do my best to catch up to you all. :)

Pool Fun

Celebrity - Paul DiMeo ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition
IMG_0534.jpg

Extreme Makeover is filming their latest episode just 10 minutes from my house. I had to go over to watch and try and get a photo or two. The quality(sharpness) of this photo is not quite what it should be on this one but he made an appearence and I only had a quick moment to grab the shot.

Hot - Person with Perspiration
IMG_0543.jpg

Yes, there is perspiration there...It is hard to see, but right in the middle of his back. Plus I wanted to share another shot from the filming.

I'm pretty much doing the same as lovesdumbo; with photos in one album on photobucket. I've also printed out the list; but I write down the page number of my posts. I'm also ticking off the ones that I've gotten from the list....but aren't we all just doing this for the fun of it and to improve our photography??

ps. 6 weeks left to tick off every single item and claim that over 500 points total....and I really must start tallying up how many points I've gotten so far :teeth:

pps. I'm loving seeing everyone's great photos!

Seems like we are all doing much the same thing! I have a separate album in photobucket, plus I saved a copy of the list to Word and as I post the photos I change the colour and font in the list (if that makes sense!!) I'm not too concerned about the points - I know there are far too many I won't be able to get! But it's still loads of fun. Plus I am learning so much from everyone's photos about where they live.

I too have a separate gallery on smugmug dedicated to this, but I keep a copy of the sheets in my bag and mark them off as I go.

PrincessInOz, thank you for asking the question re: American Embassy as US Government building. I was just about to ask the question as the situation is pretty much identical in Sydney! Thank you also for your thesis on the Australian Capitol Dome, went there today for a photo en route to the Melbourne musuem.

And I have to ask where the Inn sign is!!! I have one really sad photo of the Supper Inn...

See you tomorrow!

Nocturnal* The koala is mostly nocturnal sleeping for about 20 hours per day.

Looking forward to it! I'm bringing my camera...I figure a DisMeet qualifies for REUNION* (I've been really tragic....I see scavenger hunt items everywhere).

I'm did the same as you, separate gallery on smugmug then in that gallery I made sub-categories for each letter.
I also added the points for each photo in CS2, using the info button were I add my info and name the shot.
Was hoping to get out yesterday but it rained so I'll have to wait till my next night off. Vacation in one week so I'll be able to get out and get more.

I am on vacation w/ poor Internet access, FYI in case there are qusetions, etc. I will go back when I can get online better. Glad everyone's enjoying the Hunt, so am I. Haven't been without my camera all week!
