Photobucket

I have only tried photobucket so far, it worked ok but someone suggested that i downsize a little, the photos are BIG the entire space, I was teting to go to the message board size,640x480 I think. That took sooo long that I got frustrated and gave up. I did post one smaller but I can't seem to resize after that. Thanks for the tips, I will practice today when ds goes down for a nap!

are you trying to resize them before or after you upload them?? It shouldn't be taking long to do either. I've never had issues with resizing using photobucket at all, takes NO time :confused3 Maybe it is the speed with which you connect to the internet that is the problem:confused3

I've been having some trouble with Photobucket these last few days. I think they are having some site problems.

No problems resizing with Photobucket either! I generally upload 800 x 600 (cable modem) and it takes maybe 30 seconds at most. I have hundreds and hundreds of photos stored.

My internet went down today, dh just fixed it and when I tried to resize it was much quicker, I am going to try to post here to check the size.

Yay, it worked! Thanks for the advice all. Now, how to post more than one picture, hhhmm?

With Photobucket, I don't use the 'mountain icon'. You can just copy and paste the img code directly into your post- one at a time- as many as you want. I open 2 windows- one with disboards and one with photobucket and go back and forth:)

Someone please help a dummy........

I have this Photobucket account and for the most part I've got it figured out.

BUT, there is this little thing I can't figure out and it's bugging me and turning into a bigger thing because it's bugging me that I can't figure it out and I KNOW it's an easy fix.

I have some pictures on there that I don't want there any more and I don't know how to take them off the website.

There is a small box next to your photos (lower left). Select that and the buttons at the bottom of the screen let you delete the selected photos.

I reported this on the Technical Board also but my entry for this past week's Sign Contest and the Editing Contest as well as pictures in my siggy etc. disappeared today for several hours. Later they reappeared mysteriously. Photobucket claims it is due to blocking by DIS (????).

The code was still there in the message even though the picture wasn't displaying. And the picture was still on Photobucket when I checked.

Anyone else experience this? Please save me from paranoia!

I'd like to share some photos and have not used photobucket before. I'd like to hear how you all like it as well as other sites for sharing single photos. Zenfolio looks a little better but not for $25/year. Also, sometimes there's the message on some photos that the image isn't available or something like. Why does that happen? Thanks!

if you remove a photo from your online account ie photobucket, it just leaves a x or message in the dis place it used to be.
i have zenfolio and like it. if you just want a freebie and someplace to post photos to put on boards photobucket is fine, i have some stuff on there still. i had it before zen and never had a problem with it. you can control things via tags etc( if my memory serves)the only negative i can really think of is you don't have unlimited room so have to remove stuff if you are really prolific which is a pain and leaves little red xs ;) . some like picassa but i had more problems with that( got tons of spam right after is signed up, maybe coincidental)...i got zen mainly to set prices, otherwise i probably wouldn't have switched. flicker is another free one but it seems really hard to get around to me, i have a couple things on there as well and it seems like more of a community there than photobucket.

Photobucket is free and its easy to use. They do compress your image down in size which doesn't make a good thing for use as a backup.

A place like Zepholio or smugmug, IMO, are very much worth the money. You have full resolution backup (the full original file size is saved there) and they offer more security and privacy options.

I have smugmug which is very similar to zenfolio. I actually have the Power Account on smugmug which is $60/year. I have well over 5,000 images loaded there.

I used photobucket for quite a number of years. Its good for what it is, but I wanted more (especially to be able to have my full file size stored there as a 4th backup to my extra hard drives and DVD's).

Does anyone know if there is a way to access images in folders that are in Windows Gallery but are not showing up through PhotoBucket? The oldest things I can see as being available to import to PhotoBucket are from 5/07. It is the same way of I try to import to Facebook - nothing before that 5/07 folder. Is there some sort of tab that sets how far back the images go?

Thanks! :)

You should be able to retrieve any file on your computer.

After you click on "choose files" A box should pop up that says "select file for upload to photobucket.com"

At the very top of that box you should see a the words "Look In".

Go to the far right of that and hit the down arrow.

Now click on the file or folder you want.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!

I don't know why everything new shows in both places but the old stuff only shows in Gallery. Weird. I figured out that I just had to look at the file in Gallery and then type the file name into the search box in "pictures" and it came right up. :confused3

I know I'm new here in this part of the forums, but I felt it best to warn you all about something.

I'm rather active with my art over on deviantart.com...where I came across this journal entry: http://krash.deviantart.com/journal/22816579/

I'm also reposting the journal below, I just did not wish to claim any credit for it.

You should read the full article on the Photo Attorney website - http://www.photoattorney.com/2009/01/alert-photobucket-allows-users-to-use.html

Here is the short and skinny of the problem...

"Photobucket and/or other Users may copy, print or display publicly available Content outside of the Photobucket Services, including without limitation, via the Site or third party websites or applications (for example, services allowing Users to order prints of Content or t-shirts and similar items containing Content)"

Unless you have your account set to private. I am highly suggesting that every single one of you that have a Photobucket account do the following.

1. Complain to Photobucket and let them know that this is not acceptable.
2. Stop posting images or using Photobucket.com all together.
3. Mark your account private at once or just delete the whole thing.

Again you can read Carolyn's full post here - http://www.photoattorney.com/2009/01/alert-photobucket-allows-users-to-use.html - and if you have not already done so add the site to your bookmarks.

Thank you! I am so glad I found this post.
I have a Photobucket account and was having trouble displaying photos to my posts here, which is how I found your comment. I just deleted all my pics from that site and canceled our account.
Is there another website that is better to use for the same type of thing?
The problem I was having was when previewing the photos on my posts... they would be HUGE, much bigger then the actual picture. Any thoughts on what I was doing wrong?

Thanks again!
Jenny

I have the same questions as posted above, where to go now? I haven't participated in any photo postings (but want to) because I'm a little sketchy on photobucket.
