I first would like to start off by saying all of your pictures are gorgeous. I don't have no high tech fancy camera. I have two basic digital camera's (one has more options then the other). I love taking pictures. I'm looking into getting a photo program and was wondering if anyone can recommend one. Just a basic simple not to fancy and expensive. I'm looking to be able to lighten up dark pictures, add some sayings or graphics to pictures, if a subject is far away from the group in the picture to bring him/her closer in (if possible). Any help would be great.

Wow! I'm excited! Thanks for the help. Big hugs to you :grouphug:
I will play with these this weekend. Again thanks you made my night and I haven't even played with them yet. :cheer2:

I would like to look at GIMP but every time I open the file directories, I get lost :rotfl2:

another nice and free program is Picasa....

The two mentioned are good ones to try. Gimp is a bit tricky but it's attempting to be a free version of Photoshop, so it's got fairly lofty targets to hit

Irfanview is a program I couldn't work without, and it will do the specific things you're talking about - adjusting colors and brightness (or using a number of filters), adding text, and cropping (which is the term for your last request - cutting off edges of a photo to only show a certain part of it.) The learning curve is fairly low and it's got a huge amount of powerful features when you're ready to get a litlte more advanced. It's also small, fast, and free - what more could you ask for? However, it is not and does not try to be a full-fledged photo editor like Gimp, Photoshop, etc.

It also has very powerful batch features, allowing you to resize, rename, etc large groups of photos all at once.
