Photo Pass Question

Ok so I have 2 questions... I have been back for over a month now and still have not registered my photopass cards - is there an expiration on them? I know you have 30 days once you register them. Question 2 - I had heard since we are DVC members we were no longer entitled to the pre-purchase discount for the photopass cd's and album for $150. Well since I came home I found out that there is a link to the discount that you can use. So here is my question..... Can I use that link to prepurchase since I have not registered my cards or will they somehow know that my trip actually predates the purchase? Thanks for any info..:)

You said you've been back for over a month. You might want to get over to the Photopass site and see if they're even still available. From the back of the card (we were just there last week) it states:

"Photos must be claimed within 30 days of being taken. Once claimed, they will be available for 30 days from claim date."

As far as the discount question goes, I can't say for sure, but I think the system might be able to detect the after-trip purchase, since the purchase comes with a special discount code to enter in when ordering the CD, which more than likely is date stamped in one way or another and your photos are basically date stamped too.

OMG I am now sick to my stomach  !! I had no idea I had 30 days to enter my photopass :sad1: I just entered it and a note said it could take 24 hours for the pictures to load or it was expired. I am so mad I could scream!! I wonder if there is anyway to get them if they are expired - these are memories I can never get back - I am so depressed.

Sorry for your problem. You might try e-mailing PP to see if they can still retrieve them.

For others that are wondering, the pre-purchase offer now can only be done BEFORE any photos are taken. Any photos taken prior to the pre-purchase date will not end up on the pre-purchase CD. That was one of the changes they made when they re-released the pre-purchase offer to the general public.

Just tagging along here. I just got a photopass card in the mail from Disney. But I confess, I've never used Photopass before, so I don't know much of anything about it. Does it cost anything? Maybe this time, I'll say yes when those photopass photographers offer to take my picture.

Hi Simba's Mom. Having your photo taken does not cost anything. In fact you can have the photopass photographer take your picture with your camera. The cost comes in when you want to buy the photo or photos that were taken by the photopass photographer on their camera. You can purchase all of the photos that the photographer take of you and your family by buying a photopass CD. The CD costs $149.95. But you can preorder the cd and get $50 off that price.

The advantage of the CD is that when you are traveling with family members or even having a family reunion, multiple photopass cards can be added to the one photopass cd. Last summer we had a family gathering which included four families. We all had photopass cards which we added to the cd. So I pre-purchased the CD and I received the cd. My DBIL made copies of the cd so each family got a copy. I think after adding borders and cropping the photos we had about 450 photos on the cd. If you ever buy any photos from attractions or character meals, those photos as well can be added to your photopass account. Or if you don't want to buy the entire cd, you can purchase a photo or have a souvenir item made, like a cup, calendar or puzzle. You also have access to some of the stock photos that is on the photopass website.

We don't always purchased a photopass CD, too expensive, but for special occasions, I thought it was worth it. But we do now have the photopass photographers take our pictures sometimes with our camera and sometimes with theirs and always check to see if they took the perfect photo.

E-mail or phone them asap, the quicker you do it the quicker you maybe able to sort something. Let us know how you get on for future reference.

Thanks! Since I often travel solo, and I'll be solo for part of this trip, I can't help but ask myself, "You dummy-how come you never looked into this before?" I'll bet a calendar or cup would be kind of pricy, but it might be fun!

I have never used photopass but I am thinking about using it this Dec. Are the borders and characters ex: Tinkerbells ets., extra money or are they part of the photo pass fee?

The borders and enhancements are included in the cost of Photopass. Enjoy!

The Photopasses never expire, at least they didn't use to. I've been using the same photopass card for about 3-4 years (old enough that I've photogs ask me where I got the card.)

However, your photos get purged after 30 days.

Now I don't know this is what Disney is doing, but I suspect they do it to save on expensive disk space. For their application they need high-speed, reliable, expensive disk space, something like a Network Appliance filer. But after it's purged from the live system I would keep copies of them on cheap, slow PC disks.

So I would be shocked if they EVER really deleted any of those pictures they took. Now if they will pull the photographs back for you, that is a different question.

I'm pretty sure this is how Brad of Stitchkingdom.com explained it - but I'm paraphrasing from my sometimes faulty memory:

However, if you re-use an old card, you don't get the 30 days to claim your photos window (normally it's 30 days to claim, 30 days to edit). That card # has already been claimed/activated/however you want to phrase it on the PP site so the window starts immediately for editing.

I guess you've not had an issue with that?

This is possibly a stupid question, but could someone just verify that I'm thinking correctly?

I'm taking a trip the 2nd week of January and another the first week of February. If I preorder the CD and claim the first set of photos towards the end of the 30-day window, I then get 30 extra days to edit? So if I then add the second set right after I return from the second trip, I should be able to have both trips on the one CD?

If so, I'm ordering that thing right now! :rotfl:

Yes that's the idea - it should work as long as you get all your 2nd set editing (well all your editing) done before the 1st 30 day editing window expires. You might be tight on time - editing can take quite a while, depending on how many photos you have. You'd have to chart it out on the calendar.

Please help me understand how you do this? Do you get to edit all these years or are you just copying photos to a cheaper disk? If so, how do you copy? I am really new at this. Thanks so much.

Since I am a little slow(LOL). Let me ask this My trip starts October 22nd(first PP taken) I could claim the photo's on November 15th. DD, Dneice and DN 2- 5 year olds trip starts december 3rd ends December 13th. I could add their photo's to my CD and then edit by December 17th and be good to go. Another question would I wait to edit my photo's until they add there's or can I start editing my photo's November 15th. I pick November 15th to give me time to edit mine before they start adding there's. They will have a laptop with them on their trip and could start editing during this trip, correct. Susan

I thought the life span was from the date the photo was taken. For example we are going to WDW starting September 29. If we have our first photo taken on the 29th and more each of the 10 days we are there. The first photos will expire on October 29th no matter how often we edit them. I swear this is how it worked last year when we ordered some calendars for the family for Christmas. One of the calendars had some problems and had to be redone and Photopass had to manually extend our ending date as our 30 days was almost up.

Ok, I just ordered mine. Sure hope I can figure all this out by the time I need to use it. Thanks for the link with the special!!:thumbsup2

This is correct - sort of. There are two windows. The first is the claiming window, so in your example you have to claim them by entering your card #s by October 29th (or 28th or whatever 30 actual days is). But from that point that you claim them, you get an additional 30 days to edit.

We forgot this spring but at 35 days (they had expired) they found them-don't delay though.
