Are there charges to the room for using the phone to make collect calls back home or using a phone card? If so, could someone tell me how much they charge for using the phone in rooms. Thanks!:Pinkbounc

There is a charge for using the in-room phone, even if you have a calling card. I believe it is 75 cents per call. We usually use our cell phones to save. :)

Or use your calling cards from the lobby.

If you do this be careful that your calling card does not charge a surchange for using a payphone. The fine print on our calling cards indicated a 5min surcharge if we used it from a pay phone. If you call from your room there is a .75 charge. At the Swan/Dolphin there is no fee as long as it is included in your resort fee.

Hi,

Yes, 75 cents per call, with the rest of the charges going to a phone card or calling card was correct when I was there last February. The exception seems to be the DVC resorts where this might not be charged.

I did something silly last December though, I had my calling card and used it to call home the first three nights of my trip. I went brain dead on the fourth day though and could not remember the PIN number for my calling card. So I figured, how much could it cost if I just called home fast and had my boyfriend call me back at the hotel? I was at the Dolphin. Took no more than ten seconds each time. I did it I think four or five times.

I got the bill... just over $80.00 US with tax for approx 50 seconds of phone time. Something like a $14.75 connection charge each time. I just about died. My fault though, if I had read through all the fine print. I was calling to Canada though, I was surprised to learn they consider this international as there are usually lower rates between the US and Canada than actual international rates.

I will not make that mistake again!!!!

To avoid the $.75 charge on the room phone, we used the lobby phones with a prepaid phone card. Our phone card did charge us 8 minutes of time for every call we made, but the phone card was so cheap at BJ's; about $10 for 4 or 5 hours of time.

With two teen DD's we really didn't have a choice. Our phone charges on calls would have been astronomical, or their cell phone minutes would have run out, and then we'd be charged for OT. So they each got a prepaid phone card, and that was that.

Every prepaid phone card is different. Read the small print. Some only charge 5 or 6 minutes, but they are more expensive to purchase with less minutes. :):D:)

Thanks! What interesting information. We have a cell phone but does not have free long distance. We might consider switching to free long distance for an extra 25.00 in order to skip the hassle of extra charges. Thanks for all of your help.:Pinkbounc

I also read that if you want to call one of the restaurants ,say to make PS ressie ,if you call from your room they will charge you, but if you call the hotel operator and ask to be connected to the restaurant there is no charge. Have never done this, but may try it on our next visit in Oct.

You can call to make PS's or call for WDW infomation at no charge. We make a lot of our PS from our resort phone the night before or the morning of the day we want. We have called WDW transportation with questions and even called DQ. We use our cell phones for other calls.
